Found this article from March of this year. I don’t see any new information, but it does confirm that the investigation is ongoing:
March 28, 2019 at 3:27 PM EDT - Updated March 28 at 3:27 PM
“After nearly three years, state detectives are still searching for clues surrounding the mysterious death of
Lafayette Township Trustee Bryon Macron.
Macron, 45, went missing in December 2016, and his decomposing body was discovered in Chippewa Lake by a kayaker two months after his disappearance, according to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
Medina County Coroner Lisa Deranek said alcohol was present in Macron's system.
Six stab wounds were discovered in his body during an autopsy, but none of those wounds are believed to be solely responsible for Macron's death.
There was no major bruising present on his body and no fractures evident.
The coroner and Medina County Sheriff’s Department said the cause of death is still ‘undetermined.’
Medina County Sheriff Captain David Centner said Macron was facing financial debt at the time of his death.

A direct quote from an OHBCI would have been nice, even if just a simple comment to the effect of “We cannot discuss the specifics of an open investigation.”
Also, it appears there have been no updates on the status of Bryon’s computer since December, 2017 (from a WKYC article dated 12/16/17: “Right now, the FBI is processing Macron’s computer in hopes of finding information to help in the case.”)

I will reach out to an Akron Beacon Journal/ohio.com reporter to see if she would be interested in doing an article on Bryon’s case. Earlier this year, I emailed her and made a suggestion for a follow-up on an unidentified person case from 2015 the paper had written about back in 2017. Sometime towards the end of 2018, a couple of Websleuthers came across a donation site that indicated the UID had been identified (the page had been set up to raise money for the exhumation and the transportation of the remains back home), but we couldn’t find anything in MSM to confirm identification had taken place. Within five days of initial contact, she emailed me back with the link to the new article (for those who may be interested, here is the link to the story:

I will keep everyone posted.
