Police say an 11-year-old girl and another child were playing around the suspect, Charles Debose's parked car.

Debose reportedly yelled at them to move away from the car, and when the children didn't the suspect shot the young girl in the chest

Merritt was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries and is currently in stable condition.......

DeBose has been charged with felonious assault, he is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning on these charges.

Imo, if someone tries to kill someone but fails the sentence should be the same as if they had succeeded. Why reward someone for being a bad shot?

Charles Dubose, 55, of Cleveland: Sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for shooting an 11-year-old girl who was in a group of children playing near his car June 10 in the 700 block of East 118th Street. The girl was shot in the ribs and liver. Dubose pleaded guilty to felonious assault using a gun and faced up to 12 years in prison.

The court changed DuBose's report to state he came out with a 9mm pistol and fired a round into the ground, which ricocheted and then hit [the girl].
