Deputy, gunman killed in Enon Beach shooting

MAD RIVER TWP. — A Clark County deputy sheriff was shot to death, a German Twp. police officer wounded and the alleged gunman killed at Enon Beach early New Year’s Day.

The deputy was killed after she responded to a report of shots fired into one of the trailers at Enon Beach around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, said Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly.

Officials aren’t yet releasing the name of the deputy, a married mother of two, pending notification of her family.

The female deputy was outside the gunman’s trailer when the man emerged with a shotgun, said Kelly.

“He fired one shotgun blast, fatally wounding the deputy,” he said.

“I don’t know what would drive him to do something like that...he’s a nice guy, he’d do anything to help you out,” said [neighbor Angelina] Inman.

Inman said she also knew the deputy who was killed, describing her as having a “motherly” demeanor.

“She was a good woman,” said Inman.

Enon Beach resident Angelina Inman said she looked out of her trailer at the park, which sits near a highway about 50 miles west of Columbus, to see the deputy lying on the ground. She watched as another officer tried to reach her body.

This is so sad. She must not have had any idea or sense of danger when she walked up to that old trailor.

I found the video shocking, I have never seen how anyone reacts to being shot.
