A 79-year-old Aurora man and Bainbridge doctor was sentenced to life in prison and labeled a Tier 3 sex offender Friday after pleading guilty to kidnapping with sexual motivation before Judge John Enlow in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Dr. Mark Shaffer Jr., 79, of 830 Winward Drive, was arrested on Nov. 28, 2012, as the result of a United States Postal Inspection Service investigation of alleged child pornography distribution, which led investigators to obtain a search warrant of Shaffer's home. Pornographic videos of children were allegedly found in the residence.
In interviews, Shaffer told investigators he had sexually abused children for several years, according to Aurora police.
Shaffer will be eligible for parole after serving 10 years in prison....
