OH - Dr. William Husel accused of murdering 25 patients w/ Fentanyl Overdoses, Franklin Co, 2019 *not guilty*

I believe he still will be having attorneys on retainer for the foreseeable future.

As his medical license is still under emergency suspension in Ohio, he will have a hearing before the Ohio Medical Board concerning his license to practice medicine in Ohio.

There is the possibility that the Ohio Medical Board could decide to revoke his medical license.

And there are a number of civil lawsuits that he will have to deal with in the foreseeable future.

The civil lawsuits could allege that negligent or reckless homicide was involved in the patient's deaths.

In my opinion, even though he was found not guilty of criminal charges, I have a sneaking suspicion that his medical career is over.

I suspect that he could have difficulty obtaining any kind of malpractice insurance from an insurance company.

It's may be possible that he might not be able to obtain a medical license to practice medicine in another state.

I'm also thinking that it's very doubtful that he could even teach medicine at a medical school anywhere.

His best bet might be going to law school.

Tweet from one of the prosecution's experts. This guy plays games. He's at Vanderbilt and I'd suggest staying far away from him if you are ever admitted there.

In #PalliativeCare, physician intent is the “bright line” differentiating negligence from malice. @joel_zivot

VERDICT: Murder or Mercy? - OH v. Dr. William Husel

COURT TV - Apr 20, 2022

Such an important verdict, so glad the jury saw that their was absolutely no intent to harm his patients, my mother was on lots of medication as she was dying, I could have cared less how much medication the Dr gave her, I just wanted her to be pain free and to die with dignity,

if Drs have to be concerned with zealous prosecutors looking at their prescribing then it is patients who would suffer as Drs would be cautious in how much medication they prescribe, Drs are the only ones who should decide how much and how often a patient is given medication to ease their pain especially with end of life care

WSYX-TV reported on their noon newscast today that before the jury had reached a verdict, Husel had an interview with People Magazine.

During the interview Husel told People Magazine that he was not a killer.

Atlanta doctor becomes star witness in trial for Ohio doctor accused of killing patients

"Dr. Zivot said he wanted to testify because he felt like Husel was innocent.

“I was glad to help a colleague. I thought that he was wrongly charged,” he explained.

During the exclusive interview, Zivot told Wilfon that he reviewed all of Husel’s charts and he believed that Husel prescribed fentanyl to his dying patients to relieve their pain, not to kill them.

“A doctor understands the difference between the relief of suffering and a murderous mind, and there was no murderous intent,” Zivot said."

Dr. William Husel's attorneys ask for summary judgement | 10tv.com

Here's why they asked for that awful Judge Michael be removed from the case. This is unbelievable.

The filing details the defense team’s allegation that Holbrook had bias and should be removed from presiding over the trial.

The defense team took issue with comments Holbrook made to reporters throughout the trial and then sought to disqualify him, in part, for comments the judge made during a hearing where attorneys and the judge worked through the language that was to be included in the jury instructions.

According to the affidavit, the defense didn’t want Husel to be referred to as “the defendant” in the jury instruction.

Holbrook admitted that during an in-chambers meeting, he sarcastically suggested Husel be referred to as “the killer, Dr. Husel.”

According to a transcript of the event, Holbrook then said: “Sorry, that’s bad humor.”

It is absolutely wrong…don’t care if he apologized after, he said it and must have had it on his mind during the trial as his bias IMO came out throughout and this man should be removed from the bench before presiding over another trial.

The jury acquitted Husel Wednesday of the 14 murder charges, but the victims' families are still not letting this go by proceeding with several civil lawsuits.

The civil attorneys are looking for a home run on the remaining 13 patients who haven't settled. Those settlements ranged from $200K to $750K and no doubt the remaining patients figured they'd get much more with a guilty verdict. Two other cases got $4.65 million, but they had complications during their hospitals stays that I assume were considered malpractice.

Husel was never charged one of those two high settlement. The other one pretty much bled out after her heart cath because someone wasn't paying attention when they should have been.

Thanks...this was really interesting...they went out for beers! This juror was apparently the hold out at least something he said made me think that. And the key was living will? Really interesting. Been waiting a long time to see at least on juror.

The juror referenced above mentioned how can you hold someone liable for exceeding limits when there were NONE.
In a way this juror with his comments made it clear they just used common sense. I think in the medical field it is pretty
common knowledge that a dr. with anesthology (sp) background like Dr. Husel is comfortable going with higher dosages that will accomplish the same result with less pain and suffering.

I wish additional physicians, RN's and all medical care-givers could be further trained in the practices of Dr Husel.
