*Trial continues (Day 4) for both (@ 9am ET) – OH – Dylan Groves (2 to 4 mos.) (Found in bottom of 30’ well, Otway, recovered June, 12, 2019; believed to have died in March, 2019) – *Daniel A. Groves (41) arrested (6/10/19), charged (5/20/19), indicted (6/11/19) & arraigned (6/12/19) with aggravated murder, murder, 1st degree kidnapping/abduction, 3rd degree endangering children, 3rd degree tampering with evidence, 4th degree interference with custody, 5th degree gross abuse of a corpse, 4 counts of 2nd degree felonious assault, 4 counts of 4th degree receiving stolen property, & 2 counts of 5th degree receiving stolen property. Plead not guilty. No bond.
*Jessica Groves (40) arrested (6/10/19), charged (5/20/19), indicted & arraigned (6/12/19) with aggravated murder, murder, 1st degree kidnapping/abduction, 3rd degree endangering children, 3rd degree tampering with evidence, 4th degree interference with custody, 5th degree gross abuse of a corpse, 4 counts of 2nd degree felonious assault, 5 counts of 4th degree receiving stolen property & 1 count of 5th degree receiving stolen property. Plead not guilty (changed plea (9/24/19) from not guilty by reason of insanity). $110K bond.
Trial began on 1/6/20. Jury selection started on 1/6/20 & trial is scheduled for 5 days. Jurors: 7 women & 5 men plus 4 alternates (3 women & 1 man).
1/6/20 Day 1: Judge Mark Kuhn along with the prosecuting & defense attorneys questioned more than 60 prospective jurors in the murder trial of the parents of two-month-old Dylan Groves. Just after 4 p.m., the jury was selected, made up of seven women and five men plus four alternates. Opening statements are expected to take place tomorrow. Court will reconvene at 9 a.m., but both sides have said they expect this trial to go into next week. Trial continues on 1/7/20 with opening statements.
1/7/20 Day 2: Defense files motion for change of venue. Judge states most of the jurors indicated they had heard of the case before. Judge believes the seated jury all indicated they could be fail and impartial. Defense change of venue motion denied. Prosecution opening statement by Julie Hutchinson. Jessica Groves attorney admits in opening statement that his client murdered her baby. Jessica tells Judge she will testify. He says Daniel Groves is innocent. He says she's here to take responsibility. Daniel Groves' attorney tells the jury he helped dispose of baby Dylan's body. He did not cause his death. State witnesses: Darienne Lyles (maternity ward nurse). Another maternity ward nurse (no name given). 3rd nurse (no name given). Kristin Frantz (Social worker). Patricia Craft (Children Services Caseworker). Trial continues on 1/8.
1/8/20 Day 3: State witnesses: Dr. Darren Adams, OB/GYN. Patricia Craft (Children Services Caseworker) back from yesterday. Andrew Bowling (Foster parent who had Dylan). Foster mother (no name given). Male juror stood up and appeared to be walking out during foster mom testimony, while she was crying. This juror has a prosthetic leg so not clear if he was upset at testimony or something else going on. Judge called for a break. Witnesses: Dr. Mohammad Ali (pediatrician @ Valley View Hospital). Dr. Gregory Hudson (Pediatrician @ Price Care Pediatrics in Kentucky). Andrea Bowling (Teacher @ Menford (?) Elementary School/2nd & 3rd grades; also Foster parent to Dylan for 12 days). She breaks down on stand. Judge dismissed jurors for a break. Andrew Bowling continued testifying. Detective Adam Giles (Scioto County Sheriff's office). Captain John Murphy (Scioto County Sheriff's Office, Captain of Detective's division). Jessica Byrd (therapeutic drug & alcohol counselor). Greg Dunham (Scioto County's Juvenile Court; a intake officer & investigator). Jury dismissed for day, back at 9am on 1/9.
