Lindsay Partin, 35, is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. Her trial is scheduled to begin on Oct. 2. Partin shook and struck Hannah Wesche at Partin's Hanover Township home the morning of March 8.

Partin is accused of abusing Hannah so severely, doctors at Cincinnati Children's Hospital told Hannah's family the toddler was brain dead. Hannah was pronounced dead about 12:15 a.m. March 17.

Partin admitted to striking the child and stated she had fallen and struck her head on the concrete garage floor the previous day.

Prosecutors say Partin abused the 32-pound girl between March 6 and 8, 2018, while babysitting her. Partin admitted to “to uppercutting Hannah multiple times and poking her in the chest,”

On March 8, after father Jason Wesche dropped off the child at the neighboring house, Partin picked up the toddler and shook her to stop her from crying, according to prosecutors.

Pagan said a defense expert believes the injuries were caused by a blow to the back of the head, which was uncovered at the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office when Hannah’s head was shaved and a large, raised bruise was revealed.

Dean said Hannah suffered deep bruising to the back, some of which were revealed only after the skin was peeled away from the skull. She also had a hemorrhage to the optic nerve and “tremendous brain damage.”

The pathologist said, “Hannah died of traumatic brain injury due to blunt impact to the head.”

Dean said Hannah’s death was a homicide and said the toddler would not have been normal within “a couple moments” of receiving the injury.

The first witness to testify was Evan Reedy, Hanover Twp. firefighter and EMT, who treated Hannah a the scene.

Reedy said he observed “a lot” of bruising on Hannah, on her eyes and chest, as well as a cut. The bruises were in various stages of healing.

Reedy said he and his fellow paramedic felt Hannah was unsafe and moved quickly to transport her. He said he thought the girl was “unsafe” in the environment.

Dr. Marguerite Care, pediatric radiologist, testified a scan of Hannah’s brain indicated she had bleeding that was pushing the brain. She said Hannah suffered abusive head trauma.
