I taught kids who have behavioral difficulties and in some cases, their parents aren't really able to control them. The comments about police being called to help him calm down seem a bit reminiscent of that type of situation. I'm not saying those types of situations are healthy or good, but they are a reality. It also doesn't make him a bad kid. It can just be a really tough situation. The fact that he had a psychiatrist, extra emotional support at school etc. reminds me of situations I've seen, but it also says that someone was trying to get him help.

I have to admit that I'm getting a bit frustrated with how critical people are being of his mom on here - I don't have any idea if she had anything to do with him going missing, but right now, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that she did.

Her talking about needing him to sit with her during her medical procedure may be part of her trying to get him to come home. Some kids respond well to being asked to help.

I'm not saying she's perfect - either, for all I know she *is* involved in the disappearance, I'm just surprised that mods are letting this go so far after the family.

Reading this thread, I'm starting to think that there isn't really any enforcement on the rule here that families are considered victims. I'm not sure if anything helpful to Harley is coming from these comments, either.

My opinion, only, obviously.

You summed up my thoughts better than I ever could! Great post.

What about a school issued ipad? Could he have made contact that way?

As per Harley's own words, the school issues Chromebooks. It was discussed earlier. I don't recall what was said about the Chromebook's current state of affairs though.

Thank you. I wrote the first half of it out last night and decided to sleep on it, but I'm relieved that I'm not the only one to feel this way.

I hope that he is found safe, soon.

For all we know, Harley could have had a phone his parents didn't know about. Prepaid phones and buying minutes are so cheap. Kids are savvy these days, they loan each other electronics...... I sure hope Harleys friends are not keeping any info that might help find him.

It's super easy for the school to see what he was doing online. They have tracking software on the Chromebooks. Also, many sites are blocked from school like Discord and Facebook, but sometimes students find a way around it. Some schools block Youtube and some don't.

I grew up on Catawba island/port Clinton and there is a bad area in port Clinton called Erie gardens lots of run down homes and places to hide.i hope they searched that area. Also there is a bridge over by the jet express they should search.i hope he did not take his life because he is worried he would get in trouble for taking off.it has been to long now for him to be missing and know one has seen him.i have noticed there are a lot more kids coming up missing.pray Harley is ok and that when he is found he should be able to decide if he wants to live at his parents or stay with someone else.harley time to come out of hiding and start over.everthing will work out.

I'm worried he fell into water somewhere if he decided to play hookie, but I can't make that scenario work if there is no surveillance to indicate he was wandering around away from the school.

My biggest concern is he contacted someone to meet him while pretending to be on his way to school. Or, he was planning on meeting someone on his way to school Friday am, thought better if it and was afraid to tell his mom the real reason he didn't want to go to school. She said no to his staying home and he decided to keep plans with meeting that someone. I can't make anything else work with no survelliance.

Thanks, that's what I figured a school district would do with its issued devices but I wasn't positive.

Is anyone else put off by Chief's recent comments? It seems to me he's more focused on social media's reaction to the family then he should be (it happens in every missing child case!)

I really dislike the "If you don't have anything nice to say, private message me" approach. Feels intimidating.

To me; A detective shouldn't rule anything out as possibility unless and until they have absolute proof to the contrary. And maybe he does? But it feels really weird to have the focus be on continually defending the family in his limited press releases.

In the video he posted "I'm scared..." when he's talking about being locked out of the house. I was struck with his comments about going to school. He seemed to really like going to school from the sounds of it. That makes it seem to me that if he didn't want to go to school on Friday because he wasn't feeling well, he probably wasn't feeling well. Could he have left in anger because his mom didn't believe he wasn't feeling well or frustrated because he really needed to stay home and mom said no? If the grainy picture is really of him, it doesn't look like he's wearing a jacket or backpack, there could be a possibility that he really is sick and needs assistance rather than being classified as a runaway. This is just a theory, but it's possible he stormed out of the house, underdressed for the weather, figures he will go back once mom leaves. Hides out to rest and is actually too ill to make it back. IMO that's just as plausible as he ran away to get away from a bad home life, or kidnapped by some SM stalker.

Also, I see there are billboards going up in Toledo, but what about Cleveland? Has anyone seen or heard if one will go up there? I believe I read that Harley's dad is originally from the Cleveland area. Could he be trying to make it to family in the Cleveland area maybe?

Agreed.

Harley's disappearance is more important than some comments put out there for all to see.
Of course people are going to respond.
If this were my child missing-- I'd be far more worried about finding him than what people say about me.
Where's the concern for Harley ?
I'm not seeing it.
The police chief needs to stop with defending people's hurt feelings and do his job.

From reading what's in msm alone-- he had a home life that was disturbing. Note that I'm not blaming Harley in the slightest.
Harley's not the adult in that home.

He is a teen boy who's been gone for far too long.
Harley's life is more valuable than someone's being 'insulted'; fgs !

We should be focused on why he left.

All of your theories are very plausible.

No. I am interpreting it to mean they are a smaller pd, PC seems to be a fairly small town, and he is frustrated by the amount of time being taken up by social media fires as opposed to finding Harley.

“I continue to ask that you give us a couple more days to complete the searches that we need to accomplish before you begin searching on your own,” the police department said. “Please understand that we will be continuing to search for Harley, however I know that you want to assist as well.”

The reward for information is nearing $10,000 — totaling to $9,825 as of Friday — as more community members add to the pot.

There are resources for this. There are several non profit victim advocacy groups that will come in and field the social media garbage for tips in missing kids cases. Set up a spokesperson for the family. There are family support team volunteers so LE doesn’t have to be their emotional support.

Also, asking for people to PM him with their gripes and nonsense? Why is this the focus?

... he’s kinda bringing it on himself. It’s baffling.

Social media pages that fall in the following categories are OFF LIMITS.

Family members of either a victim or a suspect

BAITING, TROLLING, INCITING CONFLICT

Trolling or making posts with the intention of creating problems on the forums is obviously against the forum guidelines. This includes registering an alternative ID for the sole purpose of creating problems on the forums.

A member who visits WS only to incite "conflict" will be designated a "troll", and find his/her account temporarily or permanently suspended. This includes but is not limited to outing members, bringing drama from other websites to Websleuths, trashing members in any way, hyper-focusing in the smallest details with the intent to annoy and create conflict, and any other reason Websleuths deems to be inciting conflict.

WS maintains zero tolerance for members who create posts intended to antagonize other members.

WS also reserves the right to require that a minimum number of posts, term of membership, or other criteria be met to allow posting on certain topics.

INVITING PRIVATE MESSAGES or EMAIL, and ALLUDING TO "INSIDE" INFORMATION

Inviting is termed as a post where you invite other members to contact you to find out more information, rather than post it in the forum. This is not allowed and any posts with emails or invitations to contact for more information will either be edited or deleted entirely.

This includes use of the Private Message system via comments such as Check your PMs or PM me posted in discussion threads.

Think about it - it's like whispering into someone's ear while you are at a table full of other people. If you want to have a private conversation just have it. Don't announce it.

Additionally, please don't state or suggest that you are privy to inside information, but either can't or won't discuss it.

If you can't post it, don't!

The Center for Missing Children is on scene, they should be utilizing them to manage the social media.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. I'm not insinuating anything when it comes to his home life. TBH I really don't care about the WHY he left, I care about why he hasn't resurfaced. The "why he left" will all be figured out when he's found. If the parents are bad, the parents will be punished eventually. There's enough of their home life for the world to see. I have a problem with the "runaway" label. Classifying him as a runaway says he voluntarily left and will voluntarily return. If he left angry and sick, he may need assistance getting back. I think there's a lot of places in this town this kid could be and a thorough search of all the little areas this kid could hide from prying eyes is necessary. I'm originally from this town and I was a runaway. Sometimes you can't make it back and you need help. The stigma of the word runaway makes it seem as if he was unruly and that might not be the case. Maybe he was just sick and frustrated that he couldn't sleep a few more hours. I don't know, but 2 weeks is a long time and I fear for this guy that this town wasn't searched well enough by LE to get to the places kids his age would retreat to.

Ita.
Weird.

Btw-- Your suggestions are excellent.
It's odd , but it seems like nothing of the sort is being done.

It's not LE's job to police social media.
He should be more concerned about finding Harley.
Why is this police chief so focused on the comments made to someone's sm page ?
Harley is the victim here. Not someone else.

And how long is a couple of days before people are allowed to search ?
Next Mon. 6th ? Wed. 8th ?

Every place from empty hunting shacks to the wooded areas need to be looked at.
Harley could die of exposure.
Why can't LE just let people look in their immediate area for clues ?
Makes no sense.

LE did not place that stigma on Harley, I'll have to say that much.
Someone else provided information.
And yes his disappearance is not being treated with as much urgency as it should have been.
I was referencing and agreeing with your post.
Not saying you were insinuating anything.
