Wonder why no update from PCPD yet?

I don’t see a “burner phone” being involved here. How would he have paid for one & signed up for service?

Anyone can buy a cheap Trac phone for 15 bucks. The cards for prepaid minutes and service days are sold at the same place the phones are sold. Walmart sells them. I used a cheap 10 dollar phone until a year ago and I bought it at Dollar General.

I think there could've been several reasons Harley may not have wanted to go to school that day. Maybe the kids with "cool" parents weren't being made to go on the last day before break. Maybe he didn't like the whole dress-up idea & how it separates kids into who does/can and who doesn't/can't. Maybe he really didn't feel 100%, or was just too upset over lack of internet access. He wouldn't be the first kid to decide to skip a day or a class period, having no idea things could go terribly wrong. He wouldn't have taken any extra belongings because he didn't intend to be gone long, and he would've tried to stay hidden - not because of security cams but so he wouldn't get caught. From there, he may have either gotten lost & injured somehow, or bumped into a seemingly friendly adult offering a cold, hungry kid a ride.

The comments about the Jayme Closs case do give me hope for Harley. I don't think this is a hoax.

There are numerous plausible scenarios to explain HD's disappearance..

That's what makes this case one of the more confounding I've followed.

It's like coming to a crossroad, and seeing arrows pointing, "This Way" in every single direction:
  • HD's SM activities, including questionable YT videos.
  • His phone reportedly having been "broken" the week prior to his disappearance.
  • The >40 hour delay in reporting him missing.
  • The history of prior LE calls to the home.
  • Sober Living House right next door.
  • HD allegedly complaining of not feeling well that morning.
  • The grainy image that LE "believes" to be HD taken at 6:08 that morning.
  • LE's request for any video images of HD from Thursday b/t the hours of 3 pm and midnight.
  • LE's statement that there is no evidence of abduction, coupled w/ their decision not to issue an AA.
A logical argument could be made for any of the theories that have been posited on the thread and posted on the thread poll.

I don't envy LE their job here…there are just so many variables, it's hard to know which of them are relevant to his disappearance.

It's like having a 1,000 piece puzzle, and discovering that there are 2,000 puzzle pieces in the box.

JMO.

LE asked for additional surveillance footage or photos for not just 3 pm to midnight Thursday (which could indicate they want evidence about HD’s movements, OR some stranger’s presence in the vicinity, OR HD’s family member’s movements), but they also asked for that surveillance from midnight Friday to midnight Saturday.

If a stalker took HD, it’s very unlikely they’d stick around to be seen on Saturday and if HD holed up somewhere, he’d likely also stay out of sight. So, it seems likely to me that investigators want independent evidence of family member activity during that time frame - to check against what they’ve been told and possibly to give clues as to where evidence may have disappeared to.

P.S. I like your puzzle analogy. Harley put a few extra pieces in the box with his risky behavior online, but he was doing something many kids his age in the same community do. I think most of the extra 10,000 pieces have been thrown in there by someone who does that a lot to gaslight others in an effort to turn things to that someone’s own benefit.

I'm sorry, but the entire idea of a poll is hellaciously mega-mega-offensive. It's like voting someone off the island.

I personally find it helpful to see where the board stands collectively, moo. It demonstrates just how complex this case is, and how many different options there are here, imo.

Have the police or anyone ever asked anyone to come forward, if if they think it is them in the surveillance photo? I am thinking there can't be that many people out at that time of day and if it was someone else, they would know it could possibly be them.

I do think that the image has been disseminated enough that if it were someone other than HD, that person would have recognized themselves and contacted LE to say, "Hey, that's me!"

I do think that's HD we're seeing in that picture, albeit indistinctly.

Maybe HD really, really did not want to go to school, and doubled back home, creating further complications.

Harley Dilly Update, Saturday, January 11th, 2020

Harley’s path of travel was southbound down the alley towards Magruder Hospital, which is believed to be his normal path of travel due to the video footage we have reviewed for the week, leading up to Harley’s disappearance.

What? No, I agree on the date and time, but the surveillance shot looks to me that Harley was crossing E. 5th St. approaching Fulton St., not going "southbound down the alley" as you said.

Det. Timmons of the PC PD also said in his "Live PD" interview the Harley was "crossing his street" in the still shot. The shadows in the still shot and road and edging and tree also look very much to me like Harley was under a street light on E 5th street (the one closest to Fulton St.) and not going down the alley. Another problem on the alley route is that 6th street angles somewhat northwest in the block toward the school, so Harley would be regularly making his route to school longer and not have one best crosswalks and sidewalks to cross Fulton St. via the alley. I don't think the alley was his regular route. Instead, his parents probably had him walking the shortest safest route to this middle-high school campus since he started middle school as a 6th grader (3 years ago).

I think it much more likely that Harley met someone in a car along E 5th St. (approaching Fulton St.) or along Fulton St. toward PCHS. This car needs to be identified and that driver needs to be interrogated by police. This is one of the best chances to find Harley.

Long time lurker, but wanted to post as this one hits closer to home. I have a 13yo with OCD and have been following this case hoping for a positive outcome.

Few things that stand out:

- His constant presence on SM. As others here have pointed out, the fact he has not posted at all since his disappearance does not bode well. If he was hiding out somewhere, wether at a friend's house or on his own he most likely would not be able to resist posting somewhere.

- His reaction in the past when his devices were taken - very angry if the cops had to be called. I find it interesting he went missing when he didn't have his phone. Too coincidental. IMO they are linked. SM was his lifeline.

- leaving so early for school. Did he usually leave at that time? We live too close for bus service and usually kids are out walking around the same time, 30 - 45 minutes before school starts. Were other kids walking around the same time HD was?

- His size. As a 9th grades at 4'9", he would be quite small compared to the average 9th grader. This fact and also that no trail can be found can lean towards abduction.

- His dad's explosive temper as referenced in one of the YouTube videos. If they had fights in the past about revoking devices as punishment, where the police were actually called, maybe something similar happened this time around.

My kid will ask to stay home a lot. School is tough when battling OCD. I wonder if being denied his request to stay home, coupled with not having his devices, had him leaving for school pretty angry that morning. Maybe he made an impulsive decision to get back at his parents somehow, wether by sabotage or running away. And since he is young and probably didn't have the best judgment, it turned out tragic. His clothing choice to me doesn't play into it much, as most teen boys seem to be clueless as to what they should wear in certain weather. I am constantly reminding mine to bring gloves/hat.

I do remember that story in Cleavand I think, where those poor women where held hostage for 10 years!! So there is hope that perhaps his size tricked an abductor into thinking he was younger and grabbed him. But I am more inclined to believe he left angry that morning and either made a choice in anger or had a confrontation that turned tragic. The closeby landfill makes me feel uneasy.

JMO - thanks for reading!

I am happy for you and your son, that he was able to successfully move through the Sober House process. Congratulations for his hard earned Graduation! And I agree with you that many Sober Houses are well run, high quality and strict.

However not all sober houses and/or halfway houses meet that same high standard. Just like anything , there are lesser quality substandard examples. Many halfway houses are little more than flop houses for released felons, and have very little scrutiny. Sad but true.

When Halfway Houses Pose Full-Time Problems

Why are we confusing Sober Houses and Halfway Houses? They are two completely different things. One is for improving ones health, the other a result of criminal behavior. <modsnip>

There’s one hang up that keeps coming back to me.

Mom says she talked to Harley at 6:50am.
Surveillance cam time is 6:08am.

While it’s possible that mom is just mistaken on the time being half asleep, her time actually seems more in line with and realistic for when he would have left for school.

I think this part of it is significant.

Does Port Clinton have a morning newspaper? Here in my town we have a morning paper and the drivers come around to drop off the newspaper anywhere from around 5-6:00am.
They’re not employees of the news paper, just subcontractors using their own cars getting paid so much for

Harley’s dad hasn’t spoken to the press but he was shown in a Fox 8 News video yesterday (standing beside Chief Hickman) when he spoke to the volunteer searchers.

Good points. We haven't seen a request from police for anyone in the immediate vicinity to come forward.

Based on all the information we have it appears likely Harley disappeared from the alley he used to walk to school. That leaves two possibilities, imo. An accident in the alley someone hid or Harley told someone to meet him in the alley.

As someone 25 years sober this month....
Thank you. :) Sober houses aren’t housing violent criminals. They just don’t. People in them may have prior drug or financial charges but histories of violent or sexual offenses are strictly prohibited.

They’re just people trying to get clean. The way people stigmatize addiction is really awful.

You can get a burner phone that’s unlocked and easily switch your SIM card to it. Generally your provider won’t know and unless cell data usage has been checked (on the off chance they haven’t because his cell phone was broken) nobody would be aware. Also burner phones can be very cheap(we got one for $9 at Walgreens) and need very little information to set up.
**speculation and answering your question.

This contradicts what LE has reported and that alley is the best / easiest route to the school as I’ve walked it myself. I’d rather have my kid walking in a infrequently traveled alley way then down a main road. Esp in Ohio in winter when snow plows are flying, flinging salt, taking out mailboxes etc.

A couple of more possibilities:
  • HD headed southeast instead of southwest from the alley.
  • HD went to a location situated somewhere b/t the alley and the school.
