Mother of Port Clinton teen Harley Dilly speaks out after he is found dead: He ‘made a choice’

"He isn’t a runaway, or abducted, kidnapped, or missing… he is found and dead!,” Heather continued in her post. “Today we had to go make arrangements at a funeral home for our son, our 14 year old. Who made a choice. He made the choice to climb the antenna of an abandoned home, walk across a roof, to a chimney and attempted to climb down.” -

I've been sitting on my hands because something is just so off about all of this that I feel like anything I say is going to put me in time out but I had to share this link.

Harley is dead, and it is still about her.

RIP Harley. You were a delightful young man.

So something I’ve been thinking about. Just want to mention it here and see what you guys think. I realize it would throw this whole thing topsy turvy. BUT.

In the still surveillance photo, people have mentioned that it kind of looks like the sleeves of his jacket are a different shade than the body. Like a letterman jacket. Except Harley didn’t have one that I heard of, so I discounted it as shadows/lighting and moved on.

however, today reviewing old videos of his, I came across this one where he is walking to school and the jacket he is wearing DOES have sleeves that are lighter in color than the body. So I couldn’t help but compare it again and now I’m thinking, what if THIS is the jacket he is wearing on the surveillance photo? It’s not puffy, which some members have pointed out that the photo does NOT look like a puffy jacket. With the hood up, to me, it’s very possible this jacket is a better fit for the circumstances.

Yes I realize that if it’s true, it would open a whole Pandora’s box of questions.

RELATED: Videos from missing 14-year-old Ohio boy Harley Dilly cause concern

Police have been called five times to the Dilly home since 2016

Port Clinton Police have been called to Harley Dilly’s home five times since 2016, with at least four of the five calls being made by Heather Dilly, Harley’s mother.

Most of the calls were to “calm [Harley] down” or to settle a dispute within the household, according to police records. BBM

Port Clinton Police Chief Rob Hickman previously said in a press conference that officers had once been called to the home after Harley previously left the home following a family argument, and he didn’t return in that instance until the next morning.

Harley was an avid YouTuber and some of his videos have raised concerns

Quoting the above, that “Police have been called five times to the Dilly home since 2016,” that would mean that Harley would have been TEN years old (eleven, at the oldest, if it was later in 2016) at that time, as it was four years ago. That’s so young.

Oh gosh. This makes me cringe. Maybe she is just coming to terms with it all and not expressing herself well, or without a filter. The defensiveness makes me so uncomfortable but I guess I can understand, given some of the posts against them that I’ve seen elsewhere online.
Just a thought.
I don't have an opinion about her that I care to express.

Kübler-Ross model.
5 stages of grief are,
denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
She may be vacillating between them.
I can say, I am thankful that I am not in her shoes!

Okay everyone ... ease up on bashing the mom. You may not like her, you may not like what she may or may not have said/done, but she is still considered a victim by WS standards.

Further victim blaming posts may result in a thread reply ban.

Thank you, I've been here almost 11 years and I can't understand why so much victim bashing is going on lately on several boards. I guess people don't read the rules or just feel like ignoring them.

I think we all need to sympathize with any mother who has lost a child. Period. Unless of course they had something to do with it.

She has lost her child in a horrible way, maybe it is her somewhat odd way of coping with that.

I find in general that some people online feel free to bash the parents or other loved ones without holding back and it is 'not on!' Particularly on Websleuths. It is very disheartening and maddening!

Mother of Port Clinton teen Harley Dilly speaks out after he is found dead

Jan 17, 2020

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — The mother of Port Clinton teen Harley Dilly is speaking out in a Facebook post just days after he was found dead in the chimney of an unoccupied vacation home following three weeks in which he was reported missing.

“He isn’t a runaway, or abducted, kidnapped, or missing… he is found and dead!,” Heather continued in her post. “Today we had to go make arrangements at a funeral home for our son, our 14 year old. Who made a choice. He made the choice to climb the antenna of an abandoned home, walk across a roof, to a chimney and attempted to climb down.”

[..]

“There he would of been able to view me leaving every Friday as I do running errands,” Heather continued. “The decision he made, he probably got the idea off all that ‘gaming’ he did with Fortnite. How they climb up things to go into abandoned homes to get treasures. He is gone.”

[..]

If he was trying to run from us as some assume, why then didn’t he go farther, not across the street. He was avoiding going to school. Why we will never know, but kids do that,” Heather stated in the post. “This whole thing could NOT of been avoided.”

Harley was a Freshman at Port Clinton High School.

“You can point the finger at me, us, whatever all you want… The outcome would of been the same either way. Now you want to crucify me for telling my son to go to school, so be it… But don’t sit there and throw stones in a glass house,” Heather said in the post.

Heather’s post appears to come after an online petition was launched, calling for negligence charges to be filed against Harley’s parents.

I'm starting to think, whenever there is a missing person, LE should tell the immediate family to stay off SM completely. If they want to put out appeals on SM, have someone else close do it. But to stay off it themselves, don't even be tempted to read it. So much utter crap gets posted that has zero to do with what is actually going on.

No matter what anyone thinks of Harley's family situation, the bottom line is that they lost a child. End of.

She sounds angry. I guess that would be normal, but prob not a good idea to talk to the media. If you're in so much pain, it may be hard to resist though.

Expert speaks out, provides new information after body of 14-year-old Harley Dilly is found in chimney

This article was linked to above. It breaks down the five calls to LE:

2016 & 2017 - 3 calls that don't include any reference to a juvenile.
January 2017 - unruly juvenile
[gap of 20 months]
September 2019 - unruly juvenile - "Harley was upset about an incident that happened at the home. We showed up and that's about it....the problem was resolved"

IMO, it's typical of the media to tie in 3 old phone calls that aren't even related to Harley, just for the sensational headline.

Same is being done, IMO, with the 2018 "I'm scared" youtube when he's quoted as saying "the future could hold bad things for me. I don't want to find out what that could mean" and it ends so ominously. Except that the very next thing he says is "it could mean me not going to Washington DC on a field trip." And then he voices concern that he might not get an Xbox for Christmas.

School would've let out around 2:30; he'd seen and talked to his mother and argued "for at least 5 minutes" after that. During the video he says it's 3:30, and before it's over, she is calling him on his cell. Yes, it's heartbreaking to see how sad and lost he feels at that moment. It sounds like the family needed some resources made available to them and counseling or support. But to conclude that Harley suffered years of emotional neglect and abuse, based on 8 minutes recorded a year ago, and that somehow put his parents at fault for his horrific, accidental death? That's a giant leap to the worst possible conclusion, and I don't understand why so many people are willing to make that jump.

I do understand why people are bashing the parents (innocents). People are angry at the outcome of this case and they wonder if Harley would still be alive if he was reported missing soon after the call from the school was made. There was snow on the ground December 20 as shown by that surveillance video image. No what ifs will bring Harley back. When searching for a missing person or solving a crime, one must have a very open mind to consider all clues and possibilities. There are too many narrow minded and closed minded people in this world and also in LE. What if police were called to the Dilly home the morning Harley went missing after the school called about Harley's absence. An observant and open minded police officer probably would have noticed tracks in the snow leading to that house and around that TV antenna tower. JMHO.
