OH - Jackson Twp Schools on lockdown; student shoots himself in bathroom

Nothing I can say any more will be a help, but I am so sorry to hear this. Just knowing of a suicide in their “space” is bad enough for kids, and it will stay with their memories. :tears:

One “like post” isn’t enough for your post, Spellz. [emoji26][emoji174]

The words that went to come through my fingers would definitely get me banished.... but I am so flipping angry that our kids have to feel such intense fear in a place they should always feel safe. I have reached a place of nauseating numbness —- anxiety or PTSD is not a fun way to live, and I suspect some of these kids will have to deal with it .

I am at a true loss ... what to say, how to help, some way to reassure our children.

The schools in a Louisiana Parish were closed today because of threats, too. Evangeline Parish, I think.

I have never been so happy to homeschool as I am this week. Luckily, today we built a model of an aerial tram to learn about pulleys and simple machines. My little didn't have to talk about school shooters. For that, I am thankful today.

Much love to all of us here, during this really hard time. Most of the time the adults shoulder the issues. But, this week, our innocent children were pulled in to hold the weight as well.

Six schools in the Oklahoma City area, iirc. (Maybe we should just start a “breaking news: school shootings, swatting and threats” thread already.)
Even more across the state.

To say nothing of the parents who get texts like the ones above from their children in a locked down school. Horrifying. We have to find a way to stop this and restore more peace and kindness in our society.

ETA: Is anyone else having trouble sleeping with all this terrible news? I think I only got about 3 or 4 hrs. of sleep last night and its the second time in a week. JMO, these tragedies cause stress for everyone. I can't imagine how the kids feel returning to school.

Sleep? It sure isn’t restful, what little I am able to get.

“A seventh-grader was arrested and authorities are weighing charges against two other people as law enforcement agencies around Virginia investigate reports of violent threats against schools that experts say are likely inspired by Wednesday’s attack on a Florida high school.

At least 10 schools from Hampton Roads to far Southwest Virginia reported operating with an increased police presence this week...

Virginia schools are required under state law to conduct safety audits and have threat assessment teams in place that evaluate threatening writing, messages and behavior. Schools around the state reported receiving more than 9,000 threats last school year, almost 2,000 more than the prior year.”

My son's HS went on lockdown this morning. Found out from a friend as I had just driven past it on the way to work.
I FREAKED out in the car for a hot minute.
Criminal activity in the area around it. School was fine but I have never been so scared or worried about my kid since he disappeared into a Target storeroom at age 2.

How horrifying, Flyer. Was it a hoax threat?

I'm waiting to hear how much ammunition was found in his backpack. Locals are saying as much as 50. If this is true then I don't think suicide was his plan.
