Gerald Bricca age 26, his wife Linda Bricca age 23, and their daughter Debbie Bricca age 4, were murdered on or around September 25th, 1966 in their suburban home in Cincinnati, OH. Gerald Bricca was last seen on Sunday, September 25th, 1966 at 10:00pm at his home on Greenway Avenue in Green Township. Gerald returned home from work, and was seen by a neighbor taking his trash cans to the curb and then entering his home.

Gerald was scheduled to go to the airport the following morning to catch a flight to West Virginia with a co-worker for a business trip. Gerald did not make that flight on Monday, September 26th, 1966. The co-worker called Gerald that morning to no avail. Neighbors noticed that newspapers began piling up on the driveway, and the trash cans had not been taken in. Also, the porch light was still on, the TV had been on for a couple days, and their 2 dogs had not been outside to play. Gerald had not been to work since Sunday, September 25th.

On September 27th, 1966, concerned neighbors decided to check on the Bricca home, and opened the unlocked front door. Once the door was opened, one neighbor who was a war veteran, immediately recognized the smell of dead bodies, and advised that nobody enter the home and to contact the sheriff’s department. The door was shut, and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to find the family of 3 dead.

Gerald and Linda Bricca were found in their bedroom, each having suffered numerous stab wounds to their chest, neck and face. Gerald was stabbed 9 times, and Linda was stabbed 8 times. Linda and Gerald were both bound at some point, but the material used, possibly tape, was removed from their bodies and was not located. Gerald had a sock stuffed in his mouth with a small piece of medical tape. Linda was found lying on top of Gerald. Debbie Bricca was found in her bedroom, having suffered 4 stab wounds to her back, each stab going completely through her body.

Over 400 interviews were conducted with anyone remotely connected to the Bricca family.

''Just as DNA technology hadn't evolved in 1966 when the murders occurred, the two detectives hold hope that new technology could find clues from the box now or even in the distant future.

"Technology is always advancing, so it might not have been there five or 10 years ago, but it could be there now. Why not resubmit things and give it a try?" Williams said.

"DNA (testing) was not prominent back in 1966. It was there, but the ability to analyze it didn't exist," Todd said. "There might be something 50 years from now that we just don't know about yet that may be able to analyze evidence that may be able to solve it."

The article was from 2020. Five years later, maybe we should assume Ohio BCI hasn't gotten around to checking into the DNA and doing genetic genealogy, or they didn't find anything useful.

You would think with how high profile this one is/was and that it wasn't just one person that it would be fairly high priority, but it's all up to whoever's in charge of it.

Also, it seems more often than not that these sort of results/resolutions pop up out of nowhere. They're kept close to the vest and for good reason. Never know when we'll wake up to the next news.

It's really hard to say where this case stands. LE has never been very forthcoming about the status of the investigation. They don't really give updates. It's possible they feel this should just be left in the past.

Most of us would disagree, but sometimes that's the way local LE feel about old cold cases.

Going by an article from a few years ago it looks like they at least were at that point. I can see some obscure ones, unfortunately, falling by the wayside, but this one has so much "going for it." Great possibility of sordid scandal, entire family killed and it at least was at one point fairly high profile. Any department would chomp at the bit to finally solve it for the publicity alone. Just because it's been nearly sixty years they'd still have plenty of bragging rights. The technology just didn't exist then.

There is no excuse for these murders not to be solved by now. They have DNA from semen found inside Linda plus strands of hair clutched in her hand; neither matches her husband Gerry. The main suspect was cremated but he left behind at least 5 children of his own that could be tested. The author of one book on the murders is actually trying to make a case for it being a Satanic cult hit. Pull my other leg. It's almost like someone with influence does not want this case solved.
