Found Deceased OH - Kei'Mani Latigue, 13, Toledo, 16 March 2025 *arrest*

I'd wondered what the status of this case was.
Darnell Jones, the accused killer of 13-year-old Keimani Latigue, is still recovering from injuries sustained when he was shot by police in March.

Jones underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds and is in stable condition at a Columbus-area hospital, according to Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge 9. Mr. Steel spoke to The Blade on Monday.

Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle previously told The Blade Toledo detectives were able to conduct a thorough interview of Jones in the hospital.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County Children Services will hold a press conference Tuesday morning to discuss the Kei'Mani Latigue case.

According to an alert from LCCS, the 11 a.m. press conference will include a discussion of Kei'Mani's case and "the actions taken in response to reports of abuse" following the 13-year-old girl's death last month.

Still no word on when they're laying the poor girl to rest. :|

So far, the press conference is coming off as finger pointing and CYA. No clear explanation on why this crime was permitted to occur.

Well, apparently there was a reason the funeral hasn't happened yet...there was custody dispute over her body...

UPDATE: A probate court judge determined Tuesday morning that Kei'Mani Latigue's grandmother, Dorothy Latigue, has won custody for Kei'Mani's body and estate. Her public funeral is planned for this Friday.

Why was that ever in question? Dorothy had legal custody of Keimani at the time of her death?

I care more about learning what the legal status/background of her familial relationship with Jones. Why is no one even within her own family commenting on this?

Because IMO bio mother needs this to be about her. JMO Glad Dorothy received the judgment in her favor and this girl can finally now be laid to rest. Personally I feel this is about money and funeral funds being raised and who controls them. Control of the body means control of the funds again JMO

Regarding the fourth bullet point, does anyone know when the teacher(s) claimed to have filed a report? If it has been within the year, I wonder if it was made with a different agency.

About time:

Kayleene Hairabedian, who was Kei'Mani's sixth-grade English teacher at Bennett Venture Academy in west Toledo during the 2023-24 school year, says teachers, parents of Kei'Mani's classmates and a school bus driver also reported concerns to LCCS.

Those signs of potential abuse included "visible markings and bruises on her body," Hairabedian told WTOL 11 at a vigil Tuesday evening for the 13-year-old.
[snip]
Kei'Mani would tell Hairabedian if she was going to her father's house after school, but never indicated issues with him, Darnell Jones, specifically.

When asked if Kei'Mani mentioned her grandmother, Dorothy Latigue, at all, Hairabedian declined to comment.

I could definitely see reports made but because she was the age she was, her denial not opening.

Interesting that she never reported issues with him. I still wonder if this was a drug related incident.

I also am interested to see in the investigation if the reports received align with teacher dates and reports or if those have been fluffed a bit post murder.

I am suspecting the latter rather than the former. I think that is why CPS has come out requesting if someone says they reported abuse outside of the incidences they say they investigated they want that person to come forward with more details on exactly how and when they claim to have reported.

Since she mentioned something related to money in nearly every interview, no surprise.

My point was at a time like this, to end up in court was completely unnecessary. Dorothy had legal custody period.

Hopefully there has been nothing nefarious going on and this is just a misunderstanding. Rest in Heaven sweet girl.

Junior🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️ #10 in memory of Kei'Mani and her love of basketball. 🏀🏀🏀🏀
