Found Deceased OH - Kei'Mani Latigue, 13, Toledo, 16 March 2025 *arrest*

In one of the video news reported up in the thread, the grandmother states that her daughter told her he is not the bio father of Keimani, but that he was more present than the bio mum. I wonder why he is then called the father, his interest was not genuine after all. Terrible.

Thank you for pointing that out. I really didn't think he was the bio dad. As for him being more present than bio mom? He had alterior motives the whole time...MoO

Some men will befriend women who have kids whether young or teens -- in order to to get closer to the kids.
It's reprehensible.
Imo.

I am so saddened about what happened to Keimani. Our girls are continually being attacked. From the article a former teacher reported suspected abuse multiple times, when she was with a different guardian. Perhaps this was when she was with the Godmother?

MOO - CPS workers are overworked, and loaded down with cases, too many to correctly work in any given time. They fludge a few things here and there, lie about visits, calls, interviews. Possibly many times and then nothing happens. And then, there is that one case, that spirals out of control and a child is killed. While working for the state as a caseworker (SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid) I recall a few of us complaining about the low pay and need for more workers across the board- we were reminded that the agency was not one that made money, but rather "gave it away".

An idea for a great partnership - those attending college for social work, be allowed to receive CPS training and certification during their final semesters.

In my school district, we report to CPS and to the local police department. We found that many of the cases reported to CPS came back as unfounded when there were clear signs of abuse, so we were directed to report to both. Reporting to police seems to get different results. I'm all for whatever it takes to keep kids safe.

  • One of Kei’Mani’s former teachers told 13 Action News that school staff reported concerns of possible abuse to Children Services on multiple occasions. She said the young girl was with a different guardian at the time. The agency said none of the documents in the case are public record, but a spokesperson plans to discuss the case with the news media Friday. Toledo Councilmembers are seeking answers and calling for accountability.
  • Darnell Jones, who is charged with Kei’Mani’s murder, is still in the hospital as of Wednesday morning. His arraignment in Franklin County was postponed.
  • At a vigil for the teen Tuesday night, community organizers said they plan to commemorate Kei’Mani’s birthday with an event on Friday.
  • An autopsy determined Kei’Mani Latigue died of multiple “incised wounds of the neck,” according the the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
  • A police spokesperson in Columbus said the 13-year-old was raped and had her hands cut off. Authorities in Toledo have not filed any charges related to a sexual assault in the case at this time.
  • A Columbus officer shot Kei’Mani’s father, Darnell Jones, on Tuesday morning during a confrontation. He is stable and is facing new charges in Franklin County.
  • Kei’Mani’s family said the only legitimate way for community members to donate to memorial services at this point is through the Brown Legacy Memorial funeral home in Toledo.
  • The City of Toledo plans to demolish the abandoned house where the 13-year-old girl’s body was found, a spokesperson tells 13 Action News.

Before Kei'Mani Latigue was reported missing on March 18 and found dead six days later, she was a seventh-grade student at Spring Elementary School in north Toledo.

She was on the honor roll and loved to play basketball with her friends.

It's the positive girl who the school mourned on Monday and Tuesday, with the assistance of counselors and therapy dogs brought in to help console students and staff.

She was in seventh grade. RIP, Kei'Mani. 😭

She said police called her and told her that there was a "mob" outside her home, and that police would assist in escorting her from her home.

"I asked to be handcuffed," she said. Police corroborated this, describing to WTOL 11 the "arrest" as a "ruse."

When asked if she was scared for her safety, Latigue said she was. She said she has received threats.

and

Latigue said Kei'Mani was scheduled to receive a trophy during an awards ceremony this week. She grew emotional, describing that this Friday would be Kei'Mani's 14th birthday. She said Kei'Mani wanted a basketball-themed birthday party.

IMO!!! I recall an interview from the mother that explained how the father brought Keimani to visit the mother and the mother paid "child support" to the father and gave $ to Keimani. I swear I heard it in a interview. I spent last night searching and couldn't find it. For days I thought maybe he got drugs with the $ and this happened. Anyway this is IMO because I can't find the interview.

So this reads as if abuse allegations came prior to her being in grandmother's custody. I wonder if that is why godmother dropped her off with grandmother, because of a possible investigation into abuse allegations against godmother.

I am glad to have that clarification in light of the apparently unfounded allegations grandmother has been subject to on social media. I feel for her. I don't doubt she loved her granddaughter and is devastated over what has happened.

Yes, it sounds like the mistreatment that the teachers described might happened at Keimani's previous caregivers' residence ?
Poor girl.

Wandered over to social media and was aghast at what was being said.
People are angry and rightfully so, but they need to direct this resentment towards the one who took Keimani's life !
Hoping for the harshest justice allowed for him and anyone else involved in Keimani's murder.
Possible the godmother needs to be investigated .

Looks like the grandma was caring for her and working full time as well ?
She must have been exhausted, and I'm sorry if any of my posts seemed to level any undue suspicion towards grandma (DL); it was not meant that way !
Imo.
Omo.

One of Keimani Latigue’s teachers said she called authorities at least twice over her concerns for the girl……
Keimani came to school with injuries regularly.

“She would have welt marks on the back of her neck, back, and stomach,” she said. “She was constantly bruised. She was fearful of going home.”
