Bbm.As I understand it, the abuse occured in Dorothy's home. The teacher who reported the abuse and was interviewed, is Keimani's sixth grade teacher at the school she attended last year.
A classmate at the school Keimani was currently attending, also speaks in this same interview. She says that herself and other students saw bruising on her arms and decided to tell a teacher. It sounds like every time someone complained, she was moved to another school.
The investigation that happened last year, which Dorothy said was closed - could have made Keimani feel like no one would believe her if she spoke of any abuse. She also may not have wanted to be removed from the home. We see this often in the worst abuse cases.
I'm not directly blaming Dorothy for her death, she didn't kill Keimani. Many of you seem to feel she was doing her best and have sympathy for her.
My sympathy is for Keimani. If CPS had properly investigated the abuse allegations a year ago, might still be alive today had she been removed from the home. Surely we can all see how suffering abuse in the home would effect her ability to be able to trust she would be believed. IMO, it's very likely the monster who killed her had been sexually abusing her for years. Had she been removed, she might have eventually been able to tell someone what had been happening to her.
I'm heartbroken she never had that opportunity.
It also bothers me that Grandma called her a latchkey kid---because that is not really an apt description. Latchkey kids come home alone after school, usually only until dinner time. But this poor child was staying home alone ALL NIGHT, then sometimes even getting herself up and ready for school all by herself.Bbm.
This being moved around from school to school does not sounds like the actions of someone with Keimani's best interests in mind.
At about 3:22 min. in the video link (Thanks, @Knox !), Keimani's teacher, Ms. Hairebedian, says,(quote) "... had she had been investigated more, and this was more looked into...".
It sounds from the teacher that there was one caregiver despite multiple schools, the grandma, D.L. ?
Trying to give the benefit of the doubt but it sounds like there was an ongoing bad situation for Keimani.
Imo.
The million dollar question. I wish someone in authority would provide a legal answer, so everyone quits calling him her father.I'm very confused as to what DJ's exact relationship to Kei'Mani was since he's repeatedly referred to as her father but seems to not actually be her bio dad.
Is he her legal father, adoptive father, former stepfather/mom's former boyfriend? Is he ACTUALLY her bio dad but not legally her father (ie. learned about his paternity later on)? Or is he just some guy who came into Kei'Mani's life and became a father figure, possibly with ulterior motives from the start?
Do we know if Kei'mani referred to him as her father? The million dollar question. I wish someone in authority would provide a legal answer, so everyone quits calling him her father.

Hoping there is a birth certificate for Kei'mani -- maybe, maybe, a mother's name and a father's name is listed. (Doesn't necessarily mean that the "father" is her real father, but it would be something.)The million dollar question. I wish someone in authority would provide a legal answer, so everyone quits calling him her father.
I've thought about Kei'Mani everyday, it's been one of those cases. It seems her life was never easy, and despite that we've heard about her grades, awards, and personality shining through. My bold.
We have seen many, many sad situations here at WS, and we will see more, but somehow this one really gets me deeply. And yes, many other needy (in so many ways) children don't get what they could and should. But this one just hurts me deeply. Just dammit.
Agree… my bet is he was taking $ from the ‘cousin’ for regular liaisons. Was gma really working nights or being paid off to keep out of the way? My mind is bogglingIf he murdered her at Grandma’s house there should have been evidence of blood everywhere. According to reports above he slit her throat. What a monster.
My guess is the SA had been going on for sometime. This is not his first rodeo.
Is Ohio a DP state?
I agree. His GF told LE about a mat that was from a vehicle was put under her basement stairs. I'm sure there was some form of blood, DNA on it, I was thinking the major injuries were in that vacant house. I think she was subdued in her ( gma ) house, injuried, attacked, knocked out? Who knows but the cutting etc I would think was elsewhere since LE had the opportunity to go into GMA's house. If he murdered her at Grandma’s house there should have been evidence of blood everywhere. According to reports above he slit her throat. What a monster.
