OH OH - Kelly Prosser, 8, Columbus, 20 Sept 1982

Sheer

She wasn't missing long enough for that. She was kidnapped, assaulted and abandoned. She was not a crime of opportunity. Whomever knew her route and that she was alone, because normally, she wasn't.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I have to argue she could very well be a victim of opportunity. IMO That’s exactly what this could have been, perp happening upon the victim in a situation that is perfect in that moment for his strike. But of course we are only theorizing every scenario possible without inside knowledge. Please consider becoming a verified insider on this case, we would love to help in any way we can. Im sure you know the process since you are a former member.
BTW, Welcome Back to WS. Hope we can all bring peace to your family and to Kelly’s. MOO

I have been through this page randomly through the years. Kelly was my cousin, and my mom and her were close. This case had changed my families life and the way I was raised and currently raise my kiddos. I love that there are still people interested in this case and keeping it updated. We remain hopeful that one day there will be answers.

Columbus police hope podcast solves cold case of 8-year-old's death
''If they’re alive, and they hear this podcast, they’re going to worry.”

But who “they” are is the question Columbus police are hoping to answer with the launch of a new podcast Monday, titled “The 5th Floor.” The audio presentation will tell the story of 8-year-old Kelly Ann Prosser, who in September 1982 was abducted in Columbus and killed. Her body was recovered in Madison County.

The 5th Floor podcast started as an idea in late summer 2019 with Deputy Chief Greg Bodker and others within the Columbus Division of Police eager to try new ways to connect with the community and, hopefully, solve a homicide in the process.

Prosser’s case was chosen for the series, which will have somewhere between four and six 30-minute episodes, Bodker said, because it is one every detective and investigator that has worked on the case has felt a personal connection with and a desire to close.''

I know it's solved today, but CPD states on the 5th Floor Podcast that it WAS a crime of opportunity. Guess we will find out at the 130pm press conference.

My next door neighbor went to school with Kelly, and my mom and grandma were part of the search party. I was a scared little girl when this happened, and I've been following this case for years. I'm glad it's been resolved, that her family at least knows who killed her. I hope this means other long time unsolved cases from the 80's will be solved someday as well.

I have followed Kelly’s case for a long time and my heart always skips a beat when I see her case bumped. I was starting to wonder if it would ever be solved and couldn’t be happier to see that they finally know who killed her. Peace be with her loving family.

Does anyone have any information on Harold W. Jarrell? I'm curious to his history of the area. Like I previously mentioned, AW Wilson Rd was not a random road. You have to be somewhat familiar with the area.

You can see all of his previous addresses here (not saying he couldn’t have been familiar with that area because of a job/acquaintance/etc): Harold Jarrell in Columbus, Ohio

Haven’t had the time yet but when I have some spare time I’ll google search to see if either of his 80’s residences is anywhere near where her body was discovered.

Cold Case Murder Of Eight-Year-Old Ohio Girl In 1982 Is Solved After Cops Link Dna To A Dead, Convicted Sex Offender With Help From A Genealogical Website

"The 1982 cold case murder of an 8-year-old Ohio girl abducted and killed while walking home from school was linked to a now dead, convicted child sex offender, authorities on Friday said.

Cops in Columbus investigating the murder of Kelly Ann Prosser said DNA evidence identified Harold Wayne Jarrell as the child's killer. Jarrell, who spent five years in prison for an unrelated, child sex crime, died in 1996 at the age of 67.

Prosser was found beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled to death after she was abducted on September 20, 1982 while on her way home from the Indianola Elementary School in Columbus.

Police said they used the help of Advance DNA, a company that maintains a genealogical database, to trace genetic evidence recovered from the crime scene 38 years ago back to Jarrell."

More info and photos at the Daily Mail.

I believe that with the new advancements in DNA and forensics technology, more cold cases will be solved in the future.

I am glad that Kelly's case has been solved and that the person responsible for this horrible crime has been identified.

Rest in Peace now Kelly.

Haven’t had the time yet but when I have some spare time I’ll google search to see if either of his 80’s residences is anywhere near where her body was discovered.

The residences in Columbus where Harold Jarrell lived during the mid 1980's were nowhere near where her body was found.

The residences were on the south side of Columbus.

I checked google maps and street view, and the south side addresses where he once lived is now the current site of Krogers grocery store.

I would guess that the distance from where her body was found and where he lived once lived on the south side of Columbuss is 25 to 30 miles.

You can merge this case together with OH - Asenath Louise 'Seenie' Dukat, 8, Upper Arlington, Murdered in 1980...picture above next to Kelly.

I belive they were committed by the same person and that person may have lived in the upper Arlington area at the time.

You were wondering if they were connected yes?

The investigation revealed that Kelly had been beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled.
The investigation revealed that Asenath had been raped, strangled, and beaten

Kelly left the Indianola Alternative School for a walk of 15 blocks from the school to her home... Kelly was last seen at 3:30 p.m.
Asenath left Barrington Elementary School at 3:10 p.m. and began the 12 block walk home from school.

One occured when school ended for the summer.
And the other after school had started early in the fall.

Columbus Police, Franklin County and Madison County sheriff deputies, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and police dogs from Upper Arlington joined in the search for Kelly.

Three hours after Asenath was reported missing, her body was found in a drainage ditch near the corner of Riverside Drive and Waltham Road in Upper Arlington, less than one block from her home.

The above i posted in 2013. Asenath Louise 'Seenie' Dukat,
if this case is still unsloved, i have not looked. I hope they look at it again.

The police said he used to live in that area many moons ago which is how he knew the road and area he threw her body out at...This is in a very rual area...the country near Plain City

To this day, the Asenath Louise 'Seenie' Dukat case is still unsolved.

Harold Warren Jarrell was still in prison when Asenath Louise 'Seenie' Dukat was murdered in June 1980.

I do hope LE consider using genealogical database when looking into the Dukat case again.
