Dayton Police release photo, description of missing boy at Eastwood MetroPark

The boy has been missing since 6:40 p.m. Saturday, when he was last seen fishing with his family, Five Rivers MetroPark rangers previously told News Center 7.

Lucas Rosales, 7, listed as three feet tall, 60 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt with black sleeves and black pants with black converse shoes.

More than 100 people from Dayton Police, Fire, Five River MetroParks and ODNR, as well as several volunteers search groups searching for Lucas.

Eastwood MetroPark remains closed to the public while the search continues.

‘I just hope they find him;’ Search continues for missing boy at Eastwood MetroPark

The search has been taking place for more than 24 hours for a missing boy who disappeared at Eastwood MetroPark in Dayton.

More than 100 people spent Sunday looking for him, including Dayton Police officers, Dayton Firefighters, Five Rivers MetroParks, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

They called off the search just around 8 p.m. and will resume Monday morning, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Robertson [reporter] said emergency crews kept her and her photographer at a distance Sunday while they worked and saw them searching both land and on the water.

The active search and rescue response for Lucas Rosales has now shifted into a recovery operation, according to a release from the Dayton Fire Department.

Dayton Police Department officials say they have no reason to suspect foul play in the incident.

All formal search operations have been suspended at this time.

Formal search operations for 7-year-old missing from Eastwood MetroPark suspended Lucas’ father, Agustin Rosales, and sister, Da’Najiah Wakefield, spoke to News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson at the park Monday. They said said they were fishing with Lucas Saturday. Agustin said they were warning Lucas to not too close to the water. He then left his father and sister to join other members of his family because he was being too loud and scaring the fish.

Agustin then went to go find Lucas, another daughter and a family friend and the Wakefield said they don’t really know what happened after that.


“My sister said she heard something fall and someone crying, and she said she saw splashes in the water and after that, we just don’t know,” she explained.

This tragedy is so, so sad. Prayers to his loved ones, with hope that their faith and memories of Lucas will sustain them in the coming days.

I also have faith to believe that because that area is so well used, by so many people, he will be found soon. I'm sure most local visitors are aware of what's happened and will keep an eye out. I imagine that would bring such comfort to the family.

Dayton search for missing 7-year-old boy: Crews plan dam as river level decreases

The search for missing 7-year-old Lucas Rosales continues in Dayton.

“The water flow in the Mad River has nearly doubled due to recent rains, but is expected to decrease in the coming days,” he added. “The decreasing water levels will provide the opportunity for the City of Dayton Department of Water to create a temporary dam on a portion of the Mad River to facilitate additional search.”

UPDATE @ 2:40 p.m.:
The Dayton Fire Department has provided an update on their search for 7-year-old Lucas Rosales, who has been missing from Eastwood MetroPark since Saturday.

The multi-agency search and recovery operations continued in several areas around the area of the park and Harshman Road Thursday, according to Assistant Chief Nicholas Hosford.

The City of Dayton Department of Water created a temporary dam on a portion of the Mad River to help additional search capabilities and the department is actively pumping out water in the dammed area of the river. Searches of the newly exposed areas are being conducted.

“Don't induce panic by saying you found my kid somewhere, and we're going 90 down the highway to get to my baby because you said you found him, and the minute I step foot on ground it's not him, it's nothing - that is like ripping my heart out,” Amanda said.

She said everyone is entitled to their opinions but it’s malicious and inhumane to share those online.

David Rader, Director of Equusearch Midwest, said they have two sets of drones flying on the river all the way down to the mouth of the Great Miami River on Friday.

“It does look like it has come down quite a bit, so that’s kind of helping us clear areas,” Rader said. “It’s not so rough through the rapid areas, so it’s it’s giving us a little bit better vantage point and a look at different things.”

After Friday’s operations are finished, Rader said they will reassess everything and see if they need to come back Saturday or Sunday.

“I do believe that there’s more rain expected by Sunday, so hopefully we can have a little bit better luck in trying to find this little guy,” Rader said.

Lucas’ dad and other family members were at the park Friday and wore shirts with his “missing poster” printed on them.

“We got the phone call last Sunday morning,” said Dave Rader, director of Midwest EquuSearch Chapter. “And by nine o'clock, we had already put 10 individuals plus our two drone operators up there to assist in the search operation.”

A week later, Rader expresses extreme measures has been used in the recovery mission for him.

“They damned the part of that tributary so we could get a better look at the spillovers, We also brought up our remote-controlled sonar unit to check some of the ponds, and around the facility that he was last seen in," Rader said.

According to Dayton Police Department, water levels were lower this week to help search for Lucas as well as drones, K-9 units, and other resources.

“We probably covered three to four miles, I know there were some kayakers that were actually utilized the day before yesterday,” Rader said.
