I watched the press conference live. I was SHOCKED that they released this footage. Based on the footage (which is very short), I'd think they must be hanging the officer out to dry, yet the chief seems to be defending him. Sure looks like within about 10 seconds, after zero attempts at de-escalating, or even understanding the situation, and in a sitation where he was not under threat, the officer fired four (or five?) shots into a teenage girl. Simply enraging.
Maybe since he saw a stabbing in place and the girl who was the receivee of the stabbing was in danger of dying he had to make a very difficult decision to take out the one who was in the process of stabbing the girl.

I’ve seen the body cam footage on social media. She was actively fighting with someone, then ran straight at another person. I have no idea if the person she ran at was friend or foe. I didn’t watch it carefully enough to look for the knife. Maybe tomorrow.
You really need to look at her swinging the knife in a stabbing move on the girl she has cornered at the car.

Did she try to stab the police? Can't several police disarm a child with a knife?
She dosen't have to be attacking the officer. She was attacking another girl. The 0fficer had to make a decision to save the girl she was trying to stab.

It’s horrifying to me that cops couldn’t even stop killing black people during the 3 weeks of this trial. Sigh.
I really think that you should consider each circumstance separately.

This just makes me sick. I watched the video today and I think the officer was justified in what he did. He wasn’t close enough to tackle her (and why would he! She had a knife about to stab someone).

To me it looked like she was aiming for neck or head. I hope they don’t charge the officer for anything. He saved another person’s life.

Just going to put out there that I'll never understand the logic that claims that it's not okay for a civilian to kill, but it is okay for a cop to kill.

A death to prevent an even worse outcome (ie: multiple deaths) could maybe be argued as reasonable. Otherwise, we're simply saying that some people are accountable to the law, and some aren't.

In this case, we don't know anything about the altercation that took place before the cops arrived. We have no way of knowing whether the child killed was the person at fault.
Excuse me but are you implying that a law enforcement officer having to kill someone is the same as someone killing someone?

If you slow the video down, she had the knife in her head when the girl falls to the ground, then it looks like she took the knife from the guy in the gray but she didn’t. That man proceeded to kick the person on the ground in the head!

I absolutely agree. Thankfully it is caught on camera. moo

Slightly off topic, at 4:34 in the video, that dude kicking the s#*% out of the girl’s head on the ground, my gosh! Tough guy right there
I watched that video 4-5 times earlier today and didn't see that until someone else said something. I went and watched it again. Holy cow!!! He kicks her head like a soccer ball! What in the heck was going on here?

Unfortunately, I don't think it is really relevant what took place prior to law enforcement showing up. These officers had to deal with what they encountered when they arrived.

I have no idea whether those parents find the cop's actions to be justified. They could well be horrified by the actions of the cop. I wouldn't assume to know, and I'm not sure why you would.
I'm going to assume here that the parents are feeling very lucky that their daughter is not dead.

The police can’t win here, I’m not sure why they even respond.

I’ll see myself out....

OK, the way I see it. The entire scenario played out exactly like it did, officer arrived, girl with knife was in the act of stabbing another girl, officer had to act to save the girl and shot the girl with the knife. Or, another scenario, ie., he arrives after the girl is stabbed and dead and processes the scene.
