Wouldn't even have made the news, most likely. If you can't make it about race lately, its not important.

Yes, Sarcasm... but truthful
The day the incident with shooting of Mykhia Bryant happened another child died, a 6 or 7 year old black boy died at the hands of another black person. No one heard this news until the superintendent of CCS spoke about it during a news conferences.

Body camera footage shows that Bryant was shot what appears to be four times by Officer Nicholas Reardon Tuesday as she swung a knife at another girl. She was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

According to NPR, Reardon joined the Columbus police department in 2019. Officials said Tuesday that he has been removed from street duty for the time being.

At a Wednesday press conference, Columbus Interim Police Chief Michael Woods shared two 911 audio clips — one of which exhibited the chaos of the scene at which Reardon arrived.

The first 911 call, which lasted several minutes, featured yelling in the background. The caller, who remains unidentified, told the operator that there was a group of girls “trying to fight us, trying to stab us, trying to put their hands on my grandma.”

“We need a police officer here now,” the caller says.

The line eventually went dead.

The second 911 call, which appeared to come from a different person, lasted only a few seconds. The caller quickly informed the 911 operator that police had arrived.

Having watched the neighbour's video that cop was put in a terrible situation. The first girl practically falls at his feet then you have a man run up and kick her in the head while he has to have his eyes on the one with the knife. I commend him on having to assess such a chaotic situation. The guy doing the kicking was lucky he didn't get a bullet in him. A guy like that has no control. Kicking someone in the head while a cop is next to him. <Modsnip>. MOO

-She had to be stopped
-Was his use of force, 4 shots, FOUR , justified if one could have stopped her, possibly without killing her?
-Had he any other methods at his disposal that were less lethal and equally effective at stopping her?
-Did this officer's special training provide him with additional skills that he could have used instead?
These are my questions about the shooting.

What about Ma'khia?
-What happened in her life that made her want to stab people?
-Had she ever displayed violence before and if so what was the outcome?
-Had any interventions taken place to save her , from herself and others.
-Was she a victim of bullying, because of her weight , circumstances or personality?

What happened on the day of the shooting? Where was she? Who was taking care of her- who was the responsible adult in her life on that day?
Lastly, I cannot tell from the videos whether she was in a blind uncontrolled rage or merely trying to impress whatever members of her family or peer group that were present at the time?
Was she so out of control that she didn't recognise the significance of the police being present, even though she may have called them herself?

These are the questions I'll be pondering.

She didn't attempt to stab the girl that was down. Why not?

Have you seen the new video from another camera across the street? I think it vindicates the officer. It shows how fast it all happened and how aggressive the victim was.

"From my point of view watching this, unfortunately, the whole scenario put him in a bad spot regardless of what the situation was," Brinson said.

Brinson then ran through the possible situations: "He could have either not fired and the young lady in pink could have got stabbed in the neck or would have been fatally injured and then responded and shot and that would have been two young ladies possibly dead, or he could have responded the way that he did and unfortunately one lady lost her life in the incident that probably could have been avoided."

Brinson also told Faulkner he was not sure exactly what the fight was about, but noted that when he and his wife were coming home from a late lunch they came across "a young lady in pink and another young lady out front exchanging words."

"We didn’t think too much about it, but they were very, very loud. You could tell they were upset about something," he continued.

He also said he saw one of the girls locking another girl out of the house, "and they said something about, ‘How dare you lock me out of my mama’s house. This is my house too.’"

I tried to watch it several times.
I got lost because though I could clearly see Pink girl and girl in the grass, I could not locate her when they described her coming down, stopping and then going on to attack the first girl. I could see the scuffle with the first girl. Was the bit I mean to the upper left, Katy?

Donavon Brinson reportedly lives diagonally across the street from Bryant’s foster home. He told the Columbus Dispatch that he saw an argument at the residence earlier Tuesday, but that he figured it was “just a girl fight.” Later, when the arguing appeared to have escalated, Brinson went inside his home and remained there after police arrived. Brinson did not visually witness the killing, but reportedly said he heard four gunshots. He told the newspaper that when he looked outside his window, he saw Bryant on the ground. He later reviewed his own surveillance footage that captured the incident from a distance and at a wider angle than police body cam footage that has been released to the public. He said he could see Bryant with a knife in her hand, and he believes she intended to harm others.

Why wasn't the headline: Police officer saves teenage girl from being stabbed instead of police officer fatally shoots teenager?
I think there is a specific narrative that our weaponised mainstream media wants to put out to the public. They dressed this up as an unarmed child murdered by a cop, again...

I can see it much clearer on this @katydid23.
I agree.
He had no choice at all.
She was a lot more 'revved up' in this to my eyes, nothing else would have stopped it, I imagine.

Yes, they definitely did. And before the investigation is even complete. Thank goodness for body cams. IMO

"I can’t help but think what would happen if we had social workers present, if we had community based intervention present," Columbus City Council member Shayla Favor, D., said as CNN anchor Jim Sciutto nodded along.
CNN guest suggests a social worker could have prevented Ma’Khia Bryant shooting
So a social workers pulls up to that chaotic, violent scene....then what? She watches as the man kicks the 1st girl in the heAd, and looks to see Ma'khia lunging at pink girl with the knife raised?

What can the social worker do at that point?

Too little. Too late.

I am all for the benefits that a Social Worker can bring, as I worked along side one for years. But no ! to the showing up at a violent chaotic scene in place of LE. Just no! That is so not the answer, IMO.

Agree. I am all for mental health workers and social workers to help with many cases. But the time for a social worker in this case was hours, days, months before this officer showed up. <modsnip>

Truth.
Anyway, she must have had a social worker at some stage because she was placed in foster care?

Call for an ambulance for all of the stabbing victims is all I can think of.

Questions raised over police officer's use of deadly force in Ma'Khia Bryant's death

Former FBI agent Harry Trombitas shared his perspective on the body-cam footage based on how he and other officers have been trained.

"There was not time to do anything else other than end the threat immediately, and the best way to do that in that moment was with a firearm," Trombitas said.

Trombitas said tasers are not as effective in stopping every person.

Woods offered a hypothetical scenario.

"If there's not deadly force being perpetrated on someone else at that time, the officer has the opportunity to have cover, distance, and time to use a taser, but if those things aren't present, and there is an active assault going on in which someone could lose their life, the officer can use their firearm to protect that third person," Woods said.
