Per family, Michael frequently camps/fishes in Hueston Woods where his vehicle was located, though he did not tell anyone that he was doing so on the day he went missing. <modsnip: No MSM to substantiate this detail>

Michael McKenney, 29, was staying with his aunt when he went missing on May 22, says McKenney’s mother, Yalonda Middleton.
“He packed his clothes and left her house and didn’t tell anyone,” Middleton said.
Middleton says her son leaves to go camping often. The camp grounds had just reopened the day before he went missing.
At first McKenney’s family wasn’t concerned. Then they got a disturbing call from Park Rangers at Hueston Woods on Memorial Day.
The rangers had found his vehicle locked up and abandoned in the park with his keys still locked inside.

The family, along with park rangers and Texas EquuSearch, searched trails and the water for four days without any signs of where he could be.

Now McKenny’s mom is fearing the worst: “That I’m never going to see him again,” Middleton said through tears.
She says what haunts her most is that during the search the dogs brought in appeared to pick up his scent near a water drain.
“They don’t have the machinery to get in there to see, to empty it out to make sure nothing’s in there. I don’t want to think that way, I just want to know.”

Why would you pack your clothes and bring them with you if you were intending to just drive somewhere and harm yourself...unless he wanted his aunt and mom to just think he was going camping.

Poor guy. Such a friendly face. <modsnip: No MSM to substantiate this detail>

If we are talking about a possible suicide, then it could be that he had a loose plan but not an exact plan. He might have wanted the clothes just in case he delayed or lost his nerve.

The search of the water near the Linden Lake Apartments on Dec. 20 and 23 came up empty, but it showed the case of missing person Michael McKenney, 29, remains open. Hundreds are reported missing across the county every year, according to law enforcement officials, and police look for credible tips that can help bring closure to these cases.

Fairfield Twp. Police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey said his department will follow every lead “so we can try to get some closure for the family.”

That goes for any missing persons case, authorities say.

“No one missing in Ohio is ever forgotten,” said Ohio Attorney General spokesman Steve Irwin.

There are nearly 1,500 missing persons cases across Ohio, including four dozen from Butler County. Many of those cases are listed on the AG’s missing persons database.

Months ago, a supposed coworker posted on Facebook that Michael told her he was going to Hueston Woods and was "looking forward to his trip." This was on either the fb page dedicated to him or on one of his family members pages.

Family of missing man hires private investigator to help with search efforts

May 5 2021
Almost a year after a Fairfield Township man disappeared, police continue to search for him, while his family members hope a fresh set of eyes will help the investigation.

Although they have searched a lake in Lindenwald, examined pieces of evidence and looked through his car, nearly a year after Michael McKenney vanished, investigators have not found him.

Fairfield Township Police call the case an active and open one.

“We’re missing clothing items and what not. We haven’t found his wallet. We haven’t found his keys still,” Middleton said. “He had a vape pen which still has not been located.”

Investigators confirmed that two people who may have been with McKenney on the day he disappeared have since passed away. They are hoping there may be others out there with information.

A private investigator has been hired.

TWO people who may have been with him on the day he went missing have passed away? Are their deaths suspicious?

... Or suicide?
Did they kill him? Did they all witness something? overdoses?

I’m not familiar with this case; I just happened to come across the update last night and posted it. I’ll try to find some time to read over the thread & dig a lil deeper.

or perhaps covid, or natural causes, or a car accident, could have been anything really. I agree it sounds fishy at first but really, it could be innocent that 2 people who may have been with him have since died. (I am telling myself this to see if I believe it.) =)

@Dre and @ChatteringBirds , I found this article; it answers our question about the two individuals that are now deceased.

Article from Dec. 24, 2020
Fairfield Twp. police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey said officials received information last weekend there might be evidence related to the search for Michael McKenney, 29.

“We talked to a couple of people and we, of course, wanted to verify that was accurate so they had the Butler County dive team come out and check and we didn’t find anything at all,” he said.

McCroskey said they searched Wednesday the water near the Linden Lake Apartments, and the police department will follow every lead they receive “so we can try to get some closure for the family.” However, part of the problem, he said, is some of the people believed to be involved in McKenney’s disappearance are now dead.

A possible male involved died from an overdose, and a woman directly involved died from medical issues, McCroskey said.
