Deceased/Not Found OH - Patricia 'Patti' Adkins, 29, Marysville, 29 June 2001

  • #261
IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS TODAY!!!!

Patti had been divorced for a few years prior to 6/29/2001... Patti and her ex remained friends and shared custody of their daughter. Patti had planned on going on a camping/fishing trip with the co-worker. At the time everything seemed to be on the up and up. Of course since then we have found many things to be out of the ordinary....many we cannot discuss.

I'm not quite sure how I ended up here??? Sometimes I think that the person or persons involved may check different websites checking to make sure they were able to get away with this unspeakable crime. Who knows stranger things have happened. Am I the only person crazy enough to think like this?
now its been over 20 years.

Still waiting for a more detailed response from #NamUs about comparing Patti’s dna/dentals against UP9803 (that caseih99 suggested). I understand that CODIS automatically checks against “similar descriptors” in the NamUs database but what exactly does that mean? Does anyone know for sure? I mean, DNA I’m sure, if it’s a full profile, maybe? But I wonder how that is set up to do those comparisons? Anyone know? The problem I see with this is what about everything before CODIS started to automatically check against checked against NamUs (which I think was in ‘07). Does NamUs check it’s unknown people database against the missings’ database, frequently?

I’ll hold off on anymore updates until I have an actual answer from NamUs that a comparison was made and/or excluded.

@caseih99…out of all three agencies, got a ‘we will look into it’ from all 3. To date, NamUs has not updated comparisons to show that Patti was compared with your UIP. I believe none of the agencies are comparing the two bc NY had an expert determine the date of death of the UIP and they concluded she died bw the ‘80s and ‘90s. Which, time and again, it has been shown that those projections are not always accurate. I don’t understand why they are resisting comparing them. What does it take to do a comparison in a database that already has both of their dna and or dentals already on file, a few minutes? A few days? And it’s free to use the NamUs database and do comparisons so why not utilize an extra tool and rule unidentified remains out?

It's frustrating, I know and I'm sorry, you too. are getting the run around. Common sense or courtesy is beyond some people. They have a petition going to get a grand jury indictment in which, made the news there.. So maybe a fire got lit somewhere but then the fact that someone else is also throwing cold water on it, doesn't make sense. Ive mulled over this since last July and I'm perplexed.. I'm going to reach out to another and see what their take is.. We are just trying to help,.. I hate feeling like that's wrong..

NamUs checks/comparisons in Ohio are not mandatory, at least, not yet, so that may be why they’re not doing it. They may feel like CODIS is enough - apparently there’s an auto check bw it and NamUs and perhaps they feel that’s sufficient enough. Who knows? I saw the petition. At least it (re)lit the fire.

It's Ohio, they have a lot of problems. JMO, I doubt they'll allocate a regular budget for cold cases. They don't have that kind of leadership.

UPDATE - The sheriffs office has officially stated the following, as reported by the local ABC channel. Here’s the best excerpt from the article: “…The Union County Sheriff's Office is intensifying efforts to find the missing woman. An investigator with the Union County Prosecutor's Office has been assigned full-time to Patti's case, working inside the sheriff's office and reviewing the case from top to bottom. "It's always good to have a fresh set of eyes to look on it," said Justice. "I just think a fresh set of eyes is a good thing, never hurts on these cold cases…”

Great news! Here’s hoping they find some answers. Perhaps, after all these years, someone will decide to share important information about what happened that night.

Of course, that is awesome news! Hopefully, he'll be a real go get 'er...

I'd still like to see a comparison done tho.. From what I read, they only like to test, "really close" cases. Otherwise they'd be "wasting time", they say. Then why does Namus boasts of how the comparisons or data being thoroughly run thru Does and how donations matter for such a good cause, if they don't implement it?.. Isn't "this" the reason for its whole being?.. I guess there's not much else to say or do about it. I wish the family and friends of Patti are handed justice and can find the peace they deserve one day..

Yesterday marked 24 years that Patti has been missing. Very sad. 😢

At least we don’t have to wonder anymore about that one. Also, someone finally checked it out, compared her to Patti and let you know so your persistence in that situation paid off!
