The 35th day of
#GeorgeWagnerIV's murder trial is under. Sorry for the lack of early tweets! Was in the courtroom, scribbling notes. Jurors are on a brief break. I have to head back into the courtroom now & will share info. re Angela Wagner's testimony later.
Jurors are on a lunch break in
#GeorgeWagner's murder trial. Here's a quick recap of what George's mother, Angela Wagner, said during her second day of testimony.. When asked by Special Prosecutor Angela Canepa if "you guys" believed you were getting away.. 1/2
2/2 .. with the crime, Angela Wagner said it was "my belief .. you never get away w/ it. You live w/ it" (even if you don't end up in jail).
Angela has been largely devoid of emotion while on the witness stand and has only glanced in George's direction a few times. This morning, she was a bit overcome when talking about the deteriorating health of her dad and his subsequent passing. 1/2
2/2 She said she, George, Jake and Billy would not have moved to Alaska had she known just how bad off her dad was.
Angela describe the alibi she and her 3 co-defendants planned to use if questioned. They were supposed to say they were having a "family night to watch a movie" on the night they allegedly executed a plan to kill 8 members of the Rhoden family. 1/2
2/2 She said when OH BCI agents surprised the family and interviewed them after an initial trip to AK, Jake forgot the name of the movie, which prompted George to make fun of Jake.
Angela also said she was an "emotional wreck" when she, Billy, George & Jake were interviewed at Montana's border w/ Canada. When she was permitted to go, Angela said she waited anxiously to see her sons, saying she was.. 1/2
2/2 .. worried agents "were going to arrest George and Jake" and take away their kids (Angela and Billy's two grandkids).
Angela described feeling "devastated" when then OH Attorney General (now Gov.) MikeDeWine issued a news release in 2017 requesting info. about the Wagner family. At the time the Wagners had moved to Alaska. The
#PikeCountyMassacre happened the previous year in 2016.
When the Wagners had moved back to Ohio from AK, then a brief stay in Missouri, Angela found out that BCI agents were showing what agents considered evidence to her family members. 1/2
2/2 She said she worried relatives of the Rhodens who were killed would hear about the various items, which she said could "give them reason to come and kill Jake and kill all of us.”
Angela recounted a conversation she had w/ Jake about concerns his then-wife, Beth, might be abusing the daughter Jake had w/ murder victim Hanna Rhoden. Angela said Jake told her if anyone hurt his daughter, " he would beat them.”
Angela ended the first half of today's testimony by say she still doesn't know who shot who on the night of the
#PikeCountyMassacre #WLWT I'll be back in the courtroom shortly to cover more of what George Wagner's mom has to say.
