Did her brother try?
Is there a chance that KR did not really have a job in Columbus at all? Perhaps he just told his kids and ex-wife that to hide any illegal business he may have been involved in? Is His daughter the only reference of this job in Columbus?

Do you know where it said he worked for US Utilities? I must have missed that

Kenneth Rhoden’s obituary reveals he worked at US Utilities
I wonder if he had a 4 day work week, or was part time. idk jmo
If he worked regularly in Columbus 5 days a week, why stay 90 miles away in a camper in Rarden? What do we know of his work? Was it full time or contractor work ? Fixed location or mobile?
What do they do exactly ?
No new info but interesting www.10tv.com/pike-county-sheriff-announces-new-major-crime-task-force sorry I just can't get links to work right for me! It's about Sheriff Reader staring a new Major Crime Task Force for Pike Co. and checking into old murders and old crimes. Dated Jan. 23, 2016
Then, the family sent a friend and a Rhoden cousin over to check Kenneth’s home. The pair called Kendra’s aunt to tell her the news.
Apparently DS was not alone when he made the discovery.
It could well be that both stories are true. KR tried to reach her father thinking he worked. And DS did not show up to the initial plan.

"What had been written up as an accident, that as a result of members of the team looking at some information within the files, realized the body needed to be exhumed and properly autopsied. They established that that person had in fact been murdered," Smith said.
Going back to that outlandish theory out of an old gangster movie, could it be possible the victims saw someone commit a murder that was previously ruled an accident and the perpetrator got nervous and killed them?
.
That was also just the day before the trial w/the woman who slapped her son, wasn't it? There was also the drama surrounding her daughter. I tended to think that it probably surrounded those events.
.Perhaps if Kenny was working in the shop, they could only check their phones on their breaks, or if he was out in the field, calls may have not always gone thru due to location. If I drive thru rural southern Kan, between Greensburg and Meade, I rarely have svc. I used to have family in Liberal, MO, and as soon as I got to the city limits, my phone would say NO SERVICE.
It seems to be the only trouble in her life at that time, at least that we know of. But no one goes on a killing spree over four houses and eight people for no reason. They had to know that someone hated them enough to do that. They had to know that something was brewing even if the perpetrator was family or close friend. If that was the only trouble she knew then that almost leads me to believe that is why they were killed.
There has to be some indicator of that kind of violence before hand. Even the mass shootings that have happened the last few years would at first seem random but always later someone would say I knew he would do this someday. That kind of hate spills out into everyday life and family and friends always know about it. They can't help but know, even if they are in denial about it.
.
They may not have known though. The one I'm following here, the family members did not see it coming. The other folks had let it simmer for months. Then a spark ignited the whole thing. It wasn't well planned like this one though. They knew there was hard feelings just obviously never thought it would go to that level.
