According to Gilbert, as they were driving along back country roads with Loader, she told them, "You might as well kill me because I have cancer." They did, and dumped her body off on the side of the road.

The next day Bonnie and her husband, Tom Gardner, got the call. Her mother didn’t show up for breakfast. Within minutes of inspecting the farmhouse, Tom, also a former police officer, knew his mother-in-law had been kidnapped. He saw the broken door frame, her glasses on her pillow and a red phone cord was missing.

Twenty years later, Ruth Lucille Loader, has never been found.''
