Rigor Mortis and Other Postmortem Changes

Rigor mortis begins within two to six hours of death, starting with the eyelids, neck, and jaw. This sequence may be due to the difference in lactic acid levels among different muscles, which corresponds to the difference in glycogen levels and to the different types of muscle fibers. Over the next four to six hours, rigor mortis spreads to the other muscles, including those in the internal organs such as the heart.

The onset of rigor mortis is more rapid if the environment is cold and if the decedent had performed hard physical work just before death. Its onset also varies with the individual's age, sex, physical condition, and muscular build.

Thanks for the catch with the hot/cold

Yes, correct. She was found 100 feet, not yards, from her home, and was buried approx 2 miles away. To me that says he abducted her, took her home, later buried her and left clues elsewhere. But I am betting he was at that point angry, frustrated, panicked and deprived of his usual rituals. It would seem also that he may have a scanner and was listening and forewarned this way but I have not seen that mentioned. Being a trucker of sorts he may have had a CB. I will not mention precisely who, but I reiterate the word HELP. Its just my gut. Its not unusual for this type to dominate a more passive person as a helper. I believe this has been going on a long time, as you all do.
Please forgive me if I have any of this incorrect.

I don't think that's correct. She was found near Worley's property.

Rambling thoughts going through my head in no particular order! Just thoughts as I've read the documents and the threads!

Older people have been known to leave stuff hidden more or less in plain view. My grandparents were not wealthy folks from old money. Their earlier lives were as workers on farms for the rich families. They got the blemished fruits and veggies to bring home to feed their family. The used coffee grounds from the rich farmer to have coffee at home. My great grandma and my grandma did the cooking, canning, and watching kids for the rich farmers. YET, when my grandparents died, and the family was cleaning out their home, money was found in sugar bowls, old dishes in the cabinets in the kitchen, under mattresses, under the floor rug, in socks throughout their dressers. It was astonishing the amount of cash they had and lived as paupers. AND they had two bank accounts with money, not millions, but for a poor couple, $80k was a lot of money 25 yrs ago!!

Old farm land, it's true that many of the old farms have a 'dumping ground' of old farm equipment, vehicles that quit running and were put there, appliances that quit working, etc. I know of such farms in my area. There was an area on my parents' farm that as a kid we found fascinating! The prior landowners had put all their 'trash' that wasn't burned in this area. So many old glass bottles, beautiful blue glass bottles, and 'milk bottles' from when milk was delivered in them, and glass baby bottles. Many years later, Dad had constructed a pig pen that included this area, for at least 10yrs, we continued to find old dishes, glass items as the pigs dug them up!

When adrenaline is flowing , the human body can have almost superman abilities. I don't think JW needed help in abducting or transporting his victims. It's just surprising the strength one had when they must have it. Not one the thought of abduction, but on injured animals on the farm, I've been known to pick up a sheep, put in my van to get to a vet ASAP! Now, on a typical day, I'm lucky to lift 25lbs, but somehow I managed to pick up a 140lb sheep and since the truck wasn't here, loaded her into my van, blood and all after some dogs attacked her neck. Yet once the adrenaline was gone, and she was up and able to move, I couldn't unload her at home! She walked to the van and hopped back in at the vet's! Was resting and laying down when I got home, and refused to get out, and I couldn't pull or push her out!

Rigor Mortis and Other Postmortem Changes I'll

Rigor mortis begins within two to six hours of death, starting with the eyelids, neck, and jaw. This sequence may be due to the difference in lactic acid levels among different muscles, which corresponds to the difference in glycogen levels and to the different types of muscle fibers. Over the next four to six hours, rigor mortis spreads to the other muscles, including those in the internal organs such as the heart.

The onset of rigor mortis is more rapid if the environment is cold and if the decedent had performed hard physical work just before death. Its onset also varies with the individual's age, sex, physical condition, and muscular build.

After being in this rigid condition for twenty-four to eighty-four hours, the muscles relax and secondary laxity (flaccidity) develops, usually in the same order as it began (see Table 1). The length of time rigor mortis lasts depends on multiple factors, particularly the ambient temperature.

<snipped - read more>

Your exactly correct, that's what hubby said too. 26 years of experience he has, so I think this adds much. Also I had not been able to read the SW, wow that clears up a lot!

The storage unit is where LE is storing everything.

I guess I assumed the addresses they put were where the items where found or taken from.

  • #626
Oh darn. OK so it was near his home where grave was found.
Also I get what your saying about adrenaline. We once lifted a truck front off the head of an old man in a wreck. Just the two of us.
I don't mean he needed physical help. The need is often to brag about the crime or have a passive helper for disposing anything deemed needed to do.

Just gut says to me that someone knew and may have been an unwilling accomplance at some point over the years.

I think I finally got caught up on all the legal documents. That was a lot to take in :( I just want to say thank you to all the diligent folks that gathered & helped redact & get them up here for all of us to see. That was no small thing, and I know we all appreciate the effort that went into it.

I think the items recovered in the search warrant that disturb me the most are the size S pink underpants with blood, the duct tape with hair on it, the sports bra, and the shoe charm found in the crawl space in the basement. For a single man with no children, none of those items have any business being in that house. I know the authorities are going to eventually reveal what's on the CD, the tapes & cameras, and I think we're all going to he even more horrified.

I hope and pray that there is incriminating evidence....and answers to all our questions...on those tapes.

I don't remember there ever being an actual sighting of a motorcycle. The LE asked for information from the public about a motorcycle that could have been through the area in a two hour span of time. That tells me they were following up on his version of what happened, which we know is a lie. He could have driven back through and thrown the parts and helmet out the window to try to use as his story. It just seems like abducting someone with an old motorcycle in daylight would be too risky.

I agree with that too NW. I have enjoyed this board much and that's what made join. Discussing this with like minds may indeed help and at least educate us and it makes me use my brain again. I didn't mean to offend or lend a turf war. It just happens in every arena where there is people. That's partly why I have become a hermit amongst the simple folk.
Must go bathe dogs but hope to be back tomorrow!

Blue cloth with hairs, and necklace, two pair of handcuffs.... that red tool box obviously was used for more than tools on the farm, IMO! Why would a necklace be in a tool box??? Crazy!

In the search warrant for the Sprint phone, it was mentioned there about the motorcycle.

Yeah, super creepy!
I think I am going to add a column to the spreadsheet for possible/likely trophies.

I found the one sock to be interesting...simply because another murder victim from the area (Lori Ann Hill, 1985) was found nude with only one sock. This case is a cold case, where they will be comparing JDW's DNA to the DNA found on Lori. Below is a link to my source indicating that she was found nude, except for one sock. I have a feeling that JDW was responsible for Lori Hill's death also. I read that at the time of her death, he lived in Swanton, however, that was on a Sierah facebook page...not a news outlet. I would think that in Sierah's case, the one sock was just sloppy work on JDW's part.

I just can't figure out why he struck so close to home, risking getting caught. Did he care if he got caught?? I hope that looking through his media and digital devices is revealing. I hope many victims are identified and closure is brought to families. I hope they have enough solid evidence...for multiple victims.

The same judge that signed the paperwork in the documents Notnice gathered presided over Lori Ann Hill's ex-boyfriend's dismissed case. He's been around for a while.

From the way I read the SW, the sports bra, pair of underwear, and the Air Jordan box of letters were NOT at JDW house. I believe these came from where Sierah lived (her bedroom). The address at the top is not JDW and it said 2nd floor bedroom and his house is only 1 story. Also on the SW for his truck it lists a different address which turns out to be a storage place in Delta (5721 State Route 109 Delta, OH)

You are correct - those items did not come from JDW's house. I completely missed that at the top of the page.

I'm just tagging items with 'Trophy?' in column G, 'Thoughts'

Yes in the SW it says a witness had reported seeing someone in black riding a motorcycle in the area around the time Sierah went missing

I can go back through the bodies found and see if any thing was missing. The bodies that weren't found will be harder.

...and that judge's signature became more agitated and furious every time he signed. I wonder what he had/had for a gut feeling or theory?
