Found Deceased OH - Skylar Williams, Mansfield, Abduction at Gunpoint, 11 Feb 2019

So......Ty'rell shot her. Sad. No wonder officers took him out. Settles the issue of whether or not cops fired upon a kidnapped victim. Suicide by cop before he had a chance to do himself in or before he could fire on officers. What a shame. Sounds like the two were embroiled in a stupid custody battle from messages on Facebook pages. What a waste.

OSU-Mansfield student, alleged abductor dead after Kentucky police chase ends in gunfire
While attempting to apprehend Pounds, the trooper heard a gunshot coming from within the vehicle.

The trooper drew his weapon and fired, striking Pounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kentucky State Police said Williams was struck by at least one round of gunfire. She was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital where she was pronounced.

Kentucky State Police say there is no footage of the shooting because the department does not have body cameras on troopers.

Very sad:(

Terrible ending! may she rest in peace.

This is why I waited for more to come out about this. Often times, the media of today loves to cause drama and stir things up, to get those page views. Meanwhile, those who aren't as savvy as the rest of us on here, assume the cop killed her, too, which was not the case. It just breaks your heart that she was shot and didn't get a chance to escape. I have a feeling that this was his plan all along- murder/suicide, and nothing was going to stop him. I truly believe that if the cop hadn't shot him, he would have done it himself.

Are you suggesting someone intentionally worded the report to make it sound like the woman was shot by the police, knowing that wasn't the case? Is there any evidence of that?

And how do you know that it wasn't a round from the trooper's gun that killed her?

Here is a link to the statement from the police and the relevant portion (bold emphasis mine):

Kentucky State Police

After the vehicle came to rest on the ramp, the trooper attempted to apprehend the suspect.

While attempting to apprehend the suspect the trooper heard a gunshot coming from within the vehicle which he perceived as an immediate deadly threat to himself and the female passenger. The trooper drew his service weapon and fired at which time the suspect was struck resulting in his death at the scene. During this event, the female passenger was struck by at least one round of gunfire. The female was transported by Oldham County EMS to the University of Louisville Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner.

The statement does not state whose gunfire struck the female passenger. It remains possible that it was a round from the police.

Several lessons that should be kept in mind:

(1) Avoid a rush to judgment.

(2) Initial reporting of an event often contains inaccuracies, including because those at the scene may make mistakes, information directly from the scene is going through multiple levels and there's a chance that each person's hearing and interpretation distorts the original, people are relying on "sources" that don't really know, speculation is being mixed in, assumptions are being made, the choice of words is not great, etc.

(3) When reading media reports, remember that the writers may be using words that different from original sources. And when reading message board posts about a media report, remember that you're getting the poster's interpretation. If possible, always work back to the original source to avoid the whisper down the lane/telephone game effect.

(4) Read the original sources and media reports closely, and don't add in things that aren't there, such as a source of the round that struck the passenger.

If the statement is accurately stating what the trooper said, and the trooper is accurately recalling that he heard a gun shot, it's certainly possible that the driver shot the passenger. But note that "gunshot" is singular, whereas "drew his service weapon and fired" could mean the trooper's weapon was fired once or more than once. We don't yet know know how many times the trooper shot his weapon. So it's also possible that the trooper hit the passenger. Note also that it says the passenger "was struck by at least one round of gunfire." So we don't even know yet how many rounds struck her.

This seems like the perfect time to unwatch this thread.

RIP Skylar.

My condolences to both families who must be devastated. Hoping that the little guy is surrounded by love and support.

But here is one of the original MSM reports-

The chase went on for at least 20 minutes -- until Exit 14 in Oldham County. There, on the exit ramp, the suspect’s car crashed while trying to re-enter the interstate around 4 p.m. Monday, Dykes said.

Moments later, law enforcement officers opened fire. It is unclear if they hit either one of the people inside the vehicle.

2 dead in Oldham County following multi-county chase, officer-involved shooting

I think this is what Steelslady is referring to. It is irresponsible reporting to word it this way, as it implies only LE gunfire.

Exactly your point. Excellent post.

I’ve avoided websleuths ever since this morning. For some reason, this case has me so depressed. Sometimes, it feels like nothing can be done to ever stop the endless senseless deaths. This was SO very senseless. If he cared 1 iota for his child, the last thing he’d have ever done is murder it’s Mom and, in doing that, murder it’s Dad. He left his child instantly an orphan. THAT is NOT love.

Idk why this one is causing me to get in my feelings so hard. ALL of our cases are awful UNLESS/UNTIL a missing person is found safe. Things like miracles in the Closs case. People rescued, children saved, dementia sufferers found and brought back safe. Maybe I’ll hang out in the Located Persons forum a bit more tonight. I hate that this case ended this way. Prayers for comfort and strength to both of their families and friends.

What the actual fack the le shot her to that's wrong on so many levels

I feel you on this one but please remember that LE are human and forced to make split second decisions. Sometimes they must act to save others/themselves and well, it doesn't always go as good as scripted tv. And again, we're assuming LE shot Skylar which may not have been the case and if it was it certainly may not have been intentional. MOO

I can appreciate your emotions. ;)

Very good advice! Perhaps more of us should use it. Also, to add to your list if you don't mind...read and comprehend before avoiding the first step--rush to judgement. :)

Money money money moooonnnaaaaayy!
They're nice but how'd we ever get along without them? This will have to be taken up in the "politics" thread. haha

I really had thought this one might turn out ok. There was immediate knowledge of the abduction and the perp. I thought she had a chance. Just so devastating that in the very moment LE caught up with them, it ended for her.

Bulletproof vest. I wasn’t expecting that.

Ohio State student who was abducted was killed by ex, not police, officials say

"Pounds, who was wearing a bulletproof vest" --from article.

Ugh. Seems her fate was sealed when he put her in the vehicle. :(

Prayers to Skylar's family, friends and most especially her precious daughter. I pray she grows into a strong young woman who will courageously use this tragedy to care for and inspire others. May God bless her throughout all her days. :)

Let Skylar's memory be a reminder to us of the tragedies of domestic abuse. Too many victims live alone in their private world of despair. Every domestic abuse victim deserves someone to fight for her or him against the abuse perpetuated.

Know the signs so you can readily spot them for yourself and others. Don't fall prey to the erroneous thinking that you can change your abuser. You can't. The abuser must love her/himself AND you enough to change. It is not your responsibilty.

Abuse comes in a variety of forms and is associated with every type of relationship. Never let anyone make you believe that you deserve what you're getting. No matter what, no one should have power over you. Ever. ;)
