Ex-husband Michael McKee, accused of killing Monique Tepe and her husband Spencer, visited the couple's Weinland Park home weeks before they were found shot to death, according to newly unsealed court records.

The affidavit from Franklin County Municipal Court provides fresh insight into the investigation into the deaths of the couple, including information about how Columbus police identified and tracked the suspect's SUV.

Court records say McKee visited Tepe home weeks before killings

According to court records, video showed McKee going into the area of the Tepe home on Dec. 6 and then showed him leaving "a few hours later." The affidavit describes the area McKee entered as the "curtilage," which is legally considered part of a house but typically thought of as the yard, outdoor buildings, porches and other similar areas.

Court records also reveal that Monique left a Big Ten Championship football game at halftime on Dec. 6 to return to her hotel, and that Spencer told friends Monique was upset about something involving her ex-husband that same day, WBNS reported.

McKee pleaded not guilty on Jan. 23 to four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary while using a firearm suppressor. He appeared remotely via video conference from jail for his arraignment in Franklin County. Defense attorney Diane Menashe waived a request for bond, at least for now.

Friends of the couple told investigators after the murders that Monique had disclosed McKee had been abusive toward her during their marriage and had threatened her both during and after their relationship ended. At least one witness told investigators that McKee had forced unwanted sex and strangled Monique, The Columbus Dispatch reported. McKee also made comments about how “he could kill her at anytime,” according to court records, saying that he would find her and buy the house right next to her, and that she would always be his wife.

According to the affidavit, McKee allegedly returned to the home of his former wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, dentist Dr. Spencer Tepe, on December 6, 2025, while the couple were away at a college football game. This is nearly a month before the pair were found fatally shot on December 30, 2025. Video footage reportedly shows McKee on the Tepe property that day, and a friend of Monique Tepe later told investigators she left the game early after becoming upset about something involving her ex-husband.
