OH - Spencer and Monique Tepe found shot to death at home 2 children unharmed, Columbus, 30 December 2025 *ex-husband arrested*

my two cents - this was not his first trip to columbus...he could've easily stalked with a telephoto lens and took pictures of them entering/exiting the house, hence getting the keycode for the front or back doors. he knew enough to park in the alley vs. the street and keep his face shielded from the cameras...he didn't 'get away' with this (and thank g-d he didn't) as a fly-by-night random road trip to ohio. IMO.
I agree. He was smart enough to do his homework before hand.

Interesting. I considered getting one, but decided against it.
I would not recommend it unless you invest in a commercial grade and have an additional key lock above it.

(Advice from my locksmith family member). Note: he assessed the photos and believes rear door or balcony door could have been how an intruder would get inside. I doubt it was through front door.

I hope he will confess, and no trial. The families have been and will be going through so much.
Excellent LE work!

Yet another senseless murder because some pathetic little man couldn't handle his ex being happy without him. Sickening. If nothing else, I hope the family can sleep a little sounder tonight knowing he's in custody.

5 hours , 27 mins from Chicago to Columbus, drive time. Geez, he was intent.
I'm guessing that he was visiting his family in Ohio, since it was stated that he has family nearby Columbus in Zanesville. Not very far.

Good work to the detectives working on this case, and for owning your mistake regarding the welfare check and not hiding it.

Here’s hoping the dispatchers get much required training - they are public servants, after all.

"Detectives were able to identify a suspect through neighborhood video surveillance. The suspect was tracked to a vehicle which arrived just prior to the homicides and left shortly after the homicides."

Reminds me of the Brown shooter who was also very smart and very jealous of his schoolmate, the MIT professor, who he shot 20 years after they studied together.
I completely forgot about this one. So that was the reason he did it?

IMG_5848.webp What a difference a few years and a divorce makes. The difference in his face is wild.he even has the Michael Douglas “Falling Down” glasses on. So glad they got him before the spectacle of their memorial tomorrow. I think LE knew exactly how to do this, this time. Very good job—I’m impressed.

Hopefully. He will be faced with the evidence...his vehicle, his absence in Chicago, probably his phone tracking, online searching for how to unlock (if he did enter that way), looking at those wedding pictures multiple times, bullet casings, his weapon if not discarded, the video of him , etc.
For a smart person, he was not smart.

Wow, I suspected the ex at first but then I told myself there’s no way someone can hold a grudge this long. But then again, I wonder if the Brown university shooting inspired him in a sense and revived his urge to harm the Tepes. I do think it’s interesting how he did not harm the children. I don’t think it was out of sympathy but I wonder if there was a surveillance reason ( baby monitor connected to someone else’s phone etc ) that would give it away if he had entered the kids room. I just can’t imagine how someone who would commit such a heinous crime could be empathetic towards kids. Making them orphans though could be his sick way at trying to destroy their lives too without adding more murder charges if caught. I feel horrible for the victims ugh!! What a horrible horrible man!

He didn't even try to use a different vehicle.
Good grief.
How would he have even known what kind of lock they had that he'd be confident he could get in undetected?
The public wedding video and photos from Zillow show essentially the entirety of the lock and security system.

I do think he must've known the code somehow, because - unless the Tepes didn't arm their security system - egress otherwise would have likely triggered the alarm system and a call to LE.

I'm not very familiar with alarm systems or electronic keypads. Can you just keep trying codes willy nilly without repercussion? Or is there a limit, like with a phone?

Hopefully, a Google warrant and Takeout data can show whether he had unlawful access to Monique's account.

I hope so too. The details of the crime, the planning, the execution, the insane rationales could be excruciating to the families.

Always so sad to see people with god given brains and talent use it for pure evil.

The holidays would be the exact type of life event that would trigger someone like him to act. He has nothing. No family or spouse. She has everything… a perfect family. He is a predator could have never found anyone like her again. He probably had no social skills, a recluse and loner. People would have noticed he is off. What a tragedy.
Exactly like the Brown shooter and the MIT professor, his ex classmate. Their lives had diverged so much over the years, even though they had started as equals once upon a time. But now, one had everything and the other had nothing. Except envy, jealousy and rage.
