Notice the offence time
So, 22 minutes after the first CCTV sighting from the alley. Interesting they have it down to the minute.

Someone posted this article earlier in the thread and I clicked on it to read it and now I can't find the post, so I'll repost the article and highlight this section. I am going to try to look up this info, but he's named in a personal injury lawsuit out in Nevada?

He had a license in Nevada, which lapsed in mid-2025. Clark County (Nevada) court records show McKee is one of several doctors who were named in an ongoing personal injury lawsuit.
yes he worked for Las Vegas Surgical Associates ...

No. Seems more an unhinged ex which is strange give the lapsed time. I would think something recent in his life re-focused his rage/resentment towards his ex, but have no idea if this came out of nowhere, for all we know there could have been some recent contact w/ Monique and she told him to pound sand. He did have malpractice suit in the practice he was part of in Las Vegas. Again, there could be so many more behind the scenes details. I did not see the crime scene but I am a bit surprised by the one shot center mass to his ex-wife if this was such a pent up rage. But seems like a desperate f-up of a man.
Just some of my thoughts for now below. I am going to think about it some more, and of course additional facts will start being made public to help piece it together.

Usually there are a number of variables and events which converge to cause such a horrific crime. It is not one thing.

And they won't really know how it all came to this point of course until they get into the deep weeds and talk to the suspect, look at the history, prior arrests, talk to family and friends, look at the crime scene evidence, etc.

Sometimes people think they have ideas about what happened, but then when you talk to the subject, you get some surprises.

Yes I do think this man thought he was smarter than the average bear and could get away with this crime. And yes I do think he is mentally ill and possibly using drugs. And yes he most likely suffered some sort of trigger event which caused him to go back and look at his prior victims and act out his rage and anger to one of them.

Yes any set back could be the trigger. And if there is drug abuse, this can cause serious problems in terms of judgement, and even psychosis.

So we see a man spiraling out of control.

Yes I agree, the one shot to M and two to ST is a surprise perhaps, but maybe not. This man looks like he controls his rage and anger, and stays focused on the task at hand. Puts his emotions aside and does the job. Which of course is what a surgeon is trained to do.

Also he may not have wanted a loud scene which would have perhaps alerted the neighbors or awakened the dog and children.

He is a cool number and may subscribe to the idea that revenge is a dish best served cold.

But we can clearly see he made it a personal crime. Attacking a husband and wife in their bedroom, in their bed, while they slept.
This is very personal and up close. He may have made sure MT saw him and knew who killed her. And he killed her husband too.

So it is a mixture of distance/cool headedness/self discipline, and up close, out of control personal rage.

I'm guessing that he was visiting his family in Ohio, since it was stated that he has family nearby Columbus in Zanesville. Not very far.
Zanesville rings a bell. I think someone on social media had figured out that someone from Zanesville had watched their wedding video multiple times recently, before the murders.

Shooter was a vascular surgeon -- had all the trappings to move on with his life but was obsessed with his ex. A true injustice collector! Imagine driving his own vehicle from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio, parking in the Tepe's neighborhood, going inside, shooting the victims, and driving back to Chicago-- in the dead of winter! IMO, that's a good 5.5 hours, one way, fueled with hate/rage.

Here is what Franklin County, Ohio, court records show about Monique Tepe's 2017 divorce from Michael McKee. They attended Ohio State together and got married in 2015. They did not have kids.

This murderer appears to have been carrying a resentment for years. I'd speculate back to the divorce, pure speculation though. I wonder if he was paying alimony/support, or if, how much he lost in the divorce years ago. Perhaps anger at perceiving he was wronged by the system, seeing his ex and her husband financially better off than him yet he still has to pay up? Jealousy? PALEGGS....pride, anger, lust, envy, greed, gluttony, sloth.....how many of those did this murderer have going strong in the confines of his mind?

We don't know if he drove to Columbus and back immediately before and after the murders. He may have been in the Columbus area since just before Christmas and planned to stay until after the New Year if he was visiting family nearby. It was reported in MSM that he has family in Zanesville, outside of Columbus. When I worked at Ohio State, lots of colleagues commuted from Zanesville to the main campus in Columbus.

Just to clarify, there is no indication in the court records that she ever had or requested an Order of Protection against him.

I’m glad the arrest happened today and the funeral can be held without any fears for anyone. I do feel bad for the BIL and how some judged him for being so outspoken. He cared about Spencer and Monique, but certainly didn’t deserve the mean comments. Everyone has their right to their own opinions, but I think the negative impact that could have caused this family was unnecessary and unfair. I admit I was wrong in speculating one or both could have been involved with someone else, I have no right to do that. I’m feeling very emotional about this entire situation from many angles. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends as they continue to grieve.
I stand by my comments. I still don't think his media appearances were helpful or appropriate.

That's very specific. They must have some type of digital evidence to back it up.

I agree, he had everything. What an idiot. Ugly inside and out too.

These days you cant outsmart all the digital forensics , cameras are everywhere, plate readers, location tracking, geo fencing, cell phone extractors , there’s too much out there now.
There are times when having BIG BROTHER around really pays off. I remember when we all grumbled about it. Some still do. Myself included sometimes.

They say neighbors camera, but what does neighbor mean? The lady with the 911 call about someone knocking at her door, they refer to her as a neighbor, and she aasn’t next door she was a 3 minute walk away, Must be somewhere that caught him getting in or out of his vehicle. Because being in possession of that vehicle gave them probable cause.

I'm glad that Websleuths is a victim-friendly forum for this very reason.

I wonder if he would want a trial and has some sort of “evidence” for the ways she wronged him that he wants to air to those who will listen.
Oh yes this might be something he does. We have all seen very smart, educated, but mentally ill killers who have long manifestos, notes, accusations against their victims and the world. Made up and fabricated grievances which make no sense. And there is nothing that justifies first degree murder.

In the of kind situation you describe it is up to the defense attorney, family, and prosecutor to convince the killer to take the plea deal and avoid trial. Any attempt to paint himself as the vicim will only back fire and go badly for him.

He didn’t even try to get away with this crime. Seems more like a “felt like he had nothing to lose” situation.

I’m guessing troves of digital info will be revealed in which he made no attempt to disguise his plan. Left casings at the scene and even drove his own car. No mask.

He didn’t consider whether he was smart or not— this was a simple, motivated killer.
