Michael McKee was just in court - he plead not guilty to murdering Monique and Spencer Tepe. He did not request a bond, though his attorney made clear they may in the future. McKee is now in Ohio - extradited from Illinois.

Now that he has his arrangement hearing today, it likely will be 2 to 3 years before he finally does go to trial on the murder charges in Franklin County.

I recall that earlier this year there was a big write-up in the Columbus newspaper about why it takes so long for a murder case to go on trial in Franklin County.

It is my understanding that the Franklin County Common Pleas Court has a huge backlog of over 300 murder cases awaiting trial in Franklin County.

The huge backlog is due to the Franklin County Prosecutor office not providing discovery information to the defense attorneys representing clients on murder charges.

Another reason for the backlog of murder cases is that since 2020, the city of Columbus has over 100 homicides each year. The year 2021 had the highest number with 208 homicides that year in Columbus.

Perhaps the Common Pleas Court should change its name to Common Delays Court.

The prosecutor's office has been messy since O'Brien's exit. It was virtually non-existent during Tyack's reign because of his stroke. Don't get me started about the current reign. Lord, have mercy. Hopefully evidence is tight, and he pleads.

Maybe this is why his attorney said something about not ruling out asking for bail?

He wouldn't be the first potential mate who stacked up beautifully on paper -- and even publicly -- but behind closed doors, was different, confusing, etc. And she wouldn't be the first empath to forgive, give second chances, feel sorry for, want to help, hope for improvement, etc.

That she moved out the way she did suggests this was no normal breakup and speaks volumes. She must have felt it wasn't safe to stay or to leave, in any of the expected ways. And events play that out. HE hasn't even safe, not them, not eight years later.

So unfair that she lived under that latent fear while building her best life and, unbelievably, lost her life to a violent man who, frankly, couldn't get over himself.

I don't know how one would ever be able to protect themselves from that kind of long-lasting rage.

I can't fathom what defense his Defense attorney will mount.

Looks like a defenseless case of sustained hatred to me.

At this point, I don't think it was a trigger that prompted him, but a desire to destroy.

That’s a good thing IMO, anything less leads to the risk of a ruling being overturned on appeal. He is constitutionally guaranteed a vigorous defense.

I’m banking on the prosecution having a plethora of strong evidence for a jury to consider, which points straight back to Michael McKee.

I initially thought he would attempt a plea deal pretty quickly. But changed my mind on that, he has nothing to lose and will draw this out as long as possible. His life is over anyway.

I watched the closing arguments on one of the trials, she is very impressive. Not only does she present good arguments she is confident, and appears to have integrity. I dont think he could get anyone better than her.
