he could have set something up, but without wifi I think it would be tough? How hard is it to get into someone’s wifi?
I know you can share a passcode if someone is in your address book and are near you. I dont think that happened here tho.
not sure... has he been going to some hack-a-thons? some people are sloppy about securing their devices. he might have just been prowling around and they got an alert.

SOAB was stalking her constantly. . Even probably was at the Big10 championship game and ,maybe said something like "I know where you are in section B. I see you". She should have blocked his number and IM messages if she hadn't already.

I still think he either Dec. 6 or some other time planted his own inconspicuous cameras at key places around the exterior of their home to watch them come and go, possibly learn their door code, note lighting/bedtime patterns, etc. If he did enter their home when they were gone, he may have also placed cameras inside. OMHO. Just horrifying!

That's exactly why I think she left the game. She didn't want to ruin everyone's fun so left to be alone and cry, pace, freak out, etc. It's all so damn said. It's bad enough to be killed by a monster, but to be stalked and threated for almost a freaking decade before?!?! It's too awful to even comprehend. :(
Something didn’t look right about her in that photo of her and her family in front of the Christmas tree. Her face was very thin and her eyes didn’t have the sparkle as in earlier photos. Now we know why.

On the smaller basement windows it’s hard to tell if they are stationary or not. The egress window shown in photo #4 would definitely have a latch and open.
Someone said on a podcast that by city code, the window needed to open from bottom to top, so that someone can exit in case of fire. Not sure if thats true.

Some things just dont make sense. If she was that afraid, why didnt they take extra precautions? Or did they minimize it? and although it was stressful, did they just see it as more of a nuisance? 8 years later… that alone says hes a wacko.

That makes total sense. Squeeze under (from below), don't climb up to get through and potentially drop down.

A lot to speculate on, but I think part of the affidavit is notable in that it specifically states the curtilage. Copied from the Columbus Dispatch below

According to court records, video showed McKee going into the area of the Tepe home on Dec. 6and then showed him leaving "a few hours later." The affidavit describes the area McKee entered as the "curtilage," which is legally considered part of a house but typically thought of as the yard, outdoor buildings, porches and other similar areas.

So I don’t think this means he was inside the house. Of course, several hours is a long time to spend anywhere when you’re, at least in theory, trying to be stealthy. I wonder if this just means he was seen by this camera leaving the area several hours later, not the house specifically. So maybe he made several passes down the street in front and alley in back.

As for what upset Monique, total speculation on my part but what would make sense to me: they’re at the game and get an alert, we know they had a Ring doorbell. Getting an alert at that time of day would be unusual because the game kicked off at 8pm and she left around halftime, so somewhere between 8 and 930 they get that alert and she sees him creeping around her front porch, close enough to set off the bell. Could be endless things MM did that set her off though.

Edit to add: If he did get inside on this recon trip, I wonder if it would’ve been the murder date had they been home. However, he was clearly there much, much earlier than he was on Dec 30 and I’d think 8pm or so is a super risky time vs the way he did it on December 30 and ambushed them in their sleep. I wonder on the recon trip if he tried one of the popular door codes (anniversary, kids birthday, any code Monique used when they were together) and that’s how he was able to gain access so quickly on the 30th.
What if he was able to get into the garage and stayed there? Was there a keypad to open the garage door? There is also a door in the back towards the house.

Our code is that the window has to be big enough for a fully dressed firefighter to get in, so big enough for him( MM) to get in and bottom opening makes sense. Most are sliding tho nowadays

So I wonder how they knew to go back and look at footage from Dec 6. Maybe she told people "I saw some guy lurking behind our house while we were at the game. I am sure I am going crazy but it looked like my ex"

The cops had to have some reason to go back and look at footage from Dec 6 to know he was there.

For timeline, AI confirmed Ohio State Game (Tepes’ alma mater) on Dec 6:
“Ohio State played football on December 6, 2025, losing 13-10 to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.”

I also found the game was at 8p. Being a night game in Indianapolis — likely the Tepes were gone most of the day if they attended tailgates. This gave MDM plenty of time and assumption they would be gone until Sunday.

What about garage door openers where you keep a remote in your vehicle to open your garage door when arriving home?

He could have obtained the code for the garage door opener.

I was just thinking that, it’s the reason I never keep my remote on my visor, I used to keep it in my console but now I have a keychain one. Lots of break ins b/c people forget to lock their car and they get a hold of your remote and will follow you home to see where you live and plan a future break in.

Would he make a long drive and risk detection just to lurk around the yard?
I didn’t mean to make it sound like I think he was hanging out in the yard the whole time, of course not. It’s still unclear whether he made access inside the home on this trip, or if the ‘hours’ referenced are just when he arrived in the area and then later left the area.

I’m interested in what time this recon trip took place. If he sent something to Monique or she saw him on her Ring doorbell sometime during the first half of the game, that puts it between 8 & 930. In December it’s pitch black at that time so no issue there, but on a Saturday + game day (albeit not a home game) + campus adjacent neighborhood, that’s pretty risky. Even if he somehow knew Spencer and Monique were in Indianapolis, it’s not uncommon for whoever is watching them to travel to the kids’ home vs packing up everything toddlers need and sticking them in a car. Of course, if you watch a house for an hour starting at say 8pm, you can usually tell if it’s occupied or not. A light flicks on, somebody walks by a window, blinds get drawn.

I was thinking that you can copy the car key fob, but that wouldn’t have opened the garage door….they were doing that in my neighborhood to open the cars and rob them. So if the garage door opener was in the car, maybe he stole that? If you leave your car fob in the car, someone can connect to it to open the car. So he could have gotten access to the car, But he would have had to have been in the garage to get into the car….

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the garage speculation, but having access to the garage wouldn't help with getting in the house since the garage is detached.

He wasn't worried about being seen by neighbors or being caught on videotape?

The Dec 6 college football game was at night (8pm). Perhaps MM was at Tepe home in evening and didn’t think he would be seen by neighbors or identifiable if detected on camera? MOO.

Right.

People were asking where he was for hours.

woah yeah, then he could see what devices (if any) were connected. aka whether anyone was home or not.

Depending on the set up of pirating he could have known their physical location.
