Local news is reporting Columbus Police are seeking information from the public (official release can also be found on the Columbus Police Department’s Facebook page)

Thanks for posting the article.
“They are looking for evidence from Dec. 30 between midnight and 9 a.m. in the areas of Summit Street to North Grant Avenue and East 7th Avenue to East 11th Avenue.”

Sounds like they may not have as much info as I had hoped.

Makes sense. In that neighborhood if you got an alert any time someone walked by your place on the sidewalk, you’d get nothing but alerts all day. Hopefully, someone’s camera caught something. Publicly, they aren’t pleading for people to come forward with video so I’m hopeful they’re just zeroing in.
Police have now requested video between midnight and 9am. Columbus
police ask for video, photos as investigation into couple’s deaths continues

Bit later than I expected. No ruse of a delivery person likely then. Mooo.

imo law enforcement knows who did this. the crime camera, the silence from LE…. THEY KNOW.
I’m curious why you think they know who did this. Please share your thoughts.

I wonder if it’s quiet because they’re close to an arrest. I’m hoping that’s the case, anyway.
Hopefully! I recently said this to my kids after a guy that graduated with my son and had been a friend of my daughter was shot to death along with another young man on Nov 5th outside of a 7-11. Everyone kept asking why there was so little being said in the media and I told her that it could be a good sign that the police have enough info and don’t need to ask the public for information. Thankfully two guys were arrested and charged with the murders in early December.

That’s my assumption. It’s been stated in some news reports, but I know early news reports are not reliable. But it makes sense.

This is not the first completely useless wellness check I’ve heard of. There needs to be a better system, especially where children are involved. Maybe they need to start working on a warrant as soon as they can’t establish wellness. Maybe you can have a voluntary system where you can opt in to LE being able to break in for a wellness check when one is called in.

I’ve also wondered about why they sent police to the home when a car accident would be the more likely answer, but I can think of various theories. Even if they couldn’t rule it out, they may have still wanted to send someone in case it was a problem in the home, given that time is of the essence in that situation. Or someone could have driven his commute if it was known, as someone suggested. Or where I live at least, you can get pretty good information on local car accidents through a combination of Waze, Citizen, and the real-time state police highway call logs that are available online.
The dentist who called mentioned not being able to reach the wife either and said that was more concerning.

There is an American Legion building in that vicinity. It has at least one camera and I can see those members willing to help.

Maybe they called his wife previously for another reason and knew she always answered or called back. IMO

Got some front pictures and a video of me cruising down the alley behind the house. Not very illuminating, sorry about that. I have a video driving up but some people were congregating so I’m omitting that for privacy.

alley video: IMG_1820.MOV

eta: you can really see the mixed neighborhood…. and boy, cameras EVERYWHERE. a police crime camera just diagonal of them too.

eta2: removed the neighboring house images to avoid confusion

Thanks for this.
It really shows how dense the housing is around there.
Shouldn’t somebody have heard several gunshots?
Do security and/or Ring cameras pick up noise like gunfire?

Great question. Do ring cams detect sound?

She was likely the "emergency contact" listed in H R or similar records.

It looks like the garage is accessible from other lane and you have to walk thru the yard to get to the back door.

I wonder if one of them went out that evening, returned and encountered someone in the backyard. That fence didn’t look like much of a problem as far as entering the back yard space. That person could have then entered with one of the victims at gunpoint. No need for forced entry.

yes, where the house is located is basically a straight shot into downtown, so everything is packed with single family homes, apartments, etc. there is also a police crime camera right next to the house along with a ton of ring doorbell cameras. i didn’t do a great job in the video, but there are also surveillance tools in the alley by the garages.

Some models do and some don’t. Even then it depends on your settings and subscription status.

i’m not privy to info that hasn’t been released to the public, but the crime camera that detects gunshots and monitors 24/7 has a clear view onto their house. along with the other doorbell surveillance tools. the housing is so densely packed that someone had to see or hear something.

according to the BIL, LE believes this is targeted and there isn’t a threat to the public (though police haven’t stated exactly that as far as i am aware — but they certainly aren’t warning about a killer at large either). no signs of forced entry. nothing taken.

Perhaps LE has a POI but if this occurred in the dark of night, there may not be a good enough image of the perp nor their means of transportation.

Hopefully they were dumb and used their own vehicle.

My first thought, due to the wife apparently having "only" one gunshot wound, and the husband having several, was that obviously he was the real target. But of course, it could be the opposite. And especially if the wife was sleeping in the same room as one/both of the children, due to sleeping or crying problems. So then maybe she was just shot the once, but fatally, the husband heard it, and came running to the rescue. With the result we know of.
maybe he was resisting- appears to be a strong person- crazy to break into an occupied home if you are a burglar, IMO
