OH - Spencer and Monique Tepe found shot to death at home 2 children unharmed, Columbus, 30 December 2025

  • #2,181
I just heard the 911 call for the first time, it was on the national news. I had only read the transcripts previously.

It sounds like an Hispanic accent. No it is not Appalachian as some have suggested. I have lived in a southern Ohio town with that population and it is not Appalachian. It is Hispanic.

Interestingly an older family member had come to dinner and was watching the news. He knows nothing about this case except he saw it on the national news at the time of the murder.

He listened to the 911 audio and said right away it was hispanic.

Anecdotal of course but interesting.
OH, reminds me, I did find finally, an article with the call. It is NOT Monique.

Anything out of the ordinary will give rise to speculation, so yes, there has been speculation, but just of the brainstorming sort like any other speculation. Is the two incidents that make it more noteworthy for me.

To add to the existing speculation, even if that call was from outside their house, they could have heard it and intervened. I’ve posted before about my history with domestic violence. One time when I was outside and distraught on the phone with my then-boyfriend, I had someone shout “shut up” to me. It would have been more helpful had they called 911, I was in way over my head. It’s possible Monique and Spencer were more compassionate than people who yell “shut up” to someone in distress, and offered to help. And intervening in any domestic dispute is always dangerous. Others have speculated they might be the type who just a history of helping such people.

It’s just additional details, like everything else we learn about them, that may or may not have any relevance.

Ultimately I think this detail is peculiar, but doesn’t lead me to any theory I think is more likely than any other.
I am a retired mental health professional and I had the same reaction and red flag: Intervention in a domestic dispute is dangerous.

Spencer's father is not a judge. That is another person with the same name. That came out in the Cincinnati news.
Thank you! I wasn't aware of the retraction.

If she’s a stay at home mom, it might not be a work night. Dentists don’t have regular M-F schedules typically. Tuesdays could be his usual day off during the week and then he may work Saturdays.
I just just figured at least for him it was a work night because when he was missing his co workers called the weekday he was a no show. My dentist offices have been m-Th with fri off. I dont know for sure in this case.

There has to be more video and im interested to know if the person on the video returns the same way or possibly it was somebody making their way from the nearby bar.

I would think if that pwrson had been at the bar, therecwould be camera footage from bar or near bar of person?

So we have either:

1) random skell / druggy wandering into a house opportunistically and up the stairs

2) professional hit hired by someone with a grudge or financial incentive

3) jealous plotting friend/relative/little brother, someone local and unstable but in their extended social circle

Place your bets, 1, 2 or 3?

#2 A professional would not leave 3 9mm spent casings that tie to the murder weapon at the scene. For those of us who reload, it's very quick and easy to pick up our ejected brass. Also their financial situation doesn't seem very liquid or significant, they're young, getting established, just started a family, bought the house a few years ago (we don't know if they own outright).

I would say 1 is quite likely given the proximity of the house to high walking traffic and the well documented crime history of the area, including the park down the street. I would also add a hybrid of 1 and 3, meaning a secondary passing circle of familiarity, like a handyman or someone local who helped out at the house but was not too close, someone the Tepe's helped out at some point etc. Even the Spencer being active in the big brother angle is a possibility. Like I mentioned upthread I knew someone who was part of this program, and when they started their family the brother felt abandoned, and resentful, it got ugly and an RO was issued.

We've discussed so many of these point in detail over and over in this long thread. I see it's being info bombed and a lot gets lost in the shuffle.

Ok...this picture has been out for a few hours now and I'm shocked it's taken this long to reach here.

NOTHING has been indicated that this has anything to do with this case at all other than drama-chasers shouting "OH GOD HE'S IN THE SAME HOODIE!"

This is a 56 year old man. The person in the video does not seem near 56, even 2025's version of 56.

This picture has a very real chance of derailing this thread.
I agree, nothing has been indicated at ALL. LE should have done a better job explaining. Not to mention but even if he is the guy walking down the alley it proves nothing other then a guy walking down an alley. They should have clarified this much better yet this is what this site is about. I'm not trying to derail anything, it was put out there by LE. IMO

So, two 911 calls in the few years they lived at this address. That seems a bit much. IMO a red flag.

Plus the fact that family and co-workers were on high-alert so early in the morning, when ST and MT had not been reachable by phone for just one hour, tells me that there were already some concerns about the couple and their circumstances/safety.
Two 911 calls a red flag, but the multiple murders in the past few years, and an 8 year old getting shot in the park just down the street is glossed over? There was also a documented string of burglaries recently in this relatively small area of the city.

Haven’t been able to keep up as much the last couple days but catching up.

Per Franklin Co auditor, they were the first owners of the home. While it’s possible someone was living there with them, even if not currently, those “people finder” websites can be really unreliable. I searched my address and while it has me as the current occupant, it doesn’t list my spouse and does list other occupants that are former college roommates I lived with over 15 years ago in an entirely different property.

Could the April 2025 911 call have been tagged to that address in error? Logic being: nobody has landlines anymore, it was a hang up so no confirmation in the form of “911 what is the address of your emergency?” “1234 Main Street.” While I assume 911 is pinging incoming calls very precisely given every call being an emergency, in such a dense area is it possible it was assigned to that address incorrectly? Regardless of whether the call came from their home or not, I do not believe it was Monique.
The home was built in April 2020. Google street view still has that stretch of street it as an empty grass lot. They closed on the home May 8, 2020 for $487,500

I have a landline, specifically kept for 911 calls and a intercom gate system that works over landlines. You lose precious time stating your address to the 911 operator when calling one in on a cel phone.

Good points!

Here is where I am leaning.. but these are JUST GUESSES!

1) Some sort of a love triangle.
2) A family member with the big brothers family he was helping who was avenging something they thought or were told alleged to have occurred.
3) Break in from a family member or friend for unknown reason/avenging.
4) Random stranger who broke in to get money or drugs and just kill (sort of like Bryan Kohberger).

Any others???
Could be wrong but not getting a love triangle vibe unless an ex…. More thinking related to neighborhood charity work or ex roommate acquaintance… sometimes these cases involve business partner gone wrong but not feeling that vibe here either… also feeling possible financial investment like crypto or something gone wrong possibly

Fair enough, I certainly over generalized regarding the land line comment. But correct, as mentioned they were the first and only owners of the home.

They both started a new happy chapter of their lives. Bought a house in May, 2020, married there January, 2021. They were parents of a 1 and 4 year old. Spencer had a relatively young career that was emerging, This was a relatively new positive chapter of their life. Their 5 year anniversary was just coming up and according to Rob Misleh they were going to celebrate it.

Some might be resentful of this. Monique had an ex-husband I believe. Spencer was involved at some point in the Big Brothers program. There may have been others in their life, distant or close, that felt phased out. Now, the personal interviews the police have with their friend circle/family could be holding a key piece of info in this regard (was someone having an affair, was thre any threats or people with perceived slights or odd interactions with a repair man, or local etc. etc.). We are here sleuthing but, sure, it's very hard with an incomplete picture and there's always the real possibility of a statistically rare out of the blue exotic scenario.

Alley video makes me think he came in through the back door and hopped the fence in the alley to get in their backyard
100% agree. He also may have been aware of the Columbus Police camera on the utility pole across 4th St from the Teppe residence. That police camera has been there forever. You can see it on Google street view as far back as 2011 (I hope the technology has been updated since then). I doubt the killer was at the front of the house at all that night.

"They" did not own the house. Only Spencer's name is on the deed, for whatever reason. He does not own the house with Monique, her name is not on the deed. It was purchased BEFORE their marriage and is therefore not considered marital property under Ohio law.

The proximity in time to both Christmas and their 5 year anniversary got me wondering. Did either of them buy a small but expensive gift ? Maybe jewelry, gold, or something easily portable purchased from a local shop? The killer might have known or learned of the purchase & their address and knew exactly what he was looking for and where such an item would likely be found in the house. Not every business is careful about disposal of purchase records/receipts. If an intended anniversary gift - friends /family may not have been made aware (to safeguard the secret).

It could be as simple as ST and/or MT didn't want the exposure to everyone in the surrounding areas that were looking for a wedding video business seeing their wedding video which also includes family & friends and a personal vow and little speeches and was made for them and their loved ones.

If that was their wishes and the BIL knew it yet proceeded to send their wedding video to news outlets after their horrific murders I call that exploiting their deaths and for personal business gain.
Exactly my point!

He either chose to not post theirs and post many others he has made (for an unknown reason of his own) or they didn’t want it shared at the time.

Either way, it’s just a fact I find interesting (again not implicating anyone)

jmo, moo, etc

Even if the 911 call was made by Monique, I don't think that means a whole lot. Show me a married couple who has never had an argument, and I'll show you a doormat!

Right! A 4 yr old would likely swear that Santa Clause was in their house the other night.
Exactly! My sister, who is now in her early 60’s snd has a doctorate and is NOT prone to dramatics, still swears that when she was a kid a plane flew between our house and the neighbor’s house and was so low she could have touched it. This despite there being no way this could have happened because of the space between the houses and because there were electrical wires on the third side and a giant weeping willow on the fourth side. She honestly believes this is true.

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but I also find it interesting he never posted S & M wedding video to any of his social media pages, yet he posted many other wedding videos he created.
He posted their wedding video on YT 4 years ago and has had it up all this time, stating he kept it up their for everyone to see their love etc.

He also has other wedding vids on YT and his video production website and a portrait of Spencer and Monique (see attached below). Those have been up there prior to this story.

Rob Misleh also won an award for a short horror movie about killing people and turning them into leather..

But yes, the guy seems very self aggrandizing as you can tell from his many interviews about "story telling" on IG, FB etc,
