This sounds promising. I posted earlier the thought of deceased parents as to why no one looking for Buckskin Girl. Anyone have access to old newspaper archives to look at murders in the area maybe in the 1970s? Most Google searches lead you to pay for use sites.

I didn't do that, but I did first determine what High Schools were around in Denton in the 70's, early 80's. Narrowed it to Denton High. Then I looked at all "Mary's" in the 1970's at Denton High and offered up the most Irish name I could see. As mentioned above, I determined she is alive. If our poster looks at the classmates.com list of Denton High students, she should be able to find her Mary. They have yearbook pics too. If "Pippi" is our Buckskin, then we are getting mighty close. Who knows!

Porvn says that he didn't think Pippi went to Denton High School.

There was one other open in that era. Let me see if i can narrow this down

Porvn: Did "Pippi" go to the alternative school "Touchstone" Does that sound right?

I have no idea what school she went to. I don't even know where she came from. I am sure she was not from Denton. My understanding was that she showed up at a party and ended up stayed with my friend for a few months. That was around early 1981 or around the time that I moved out to California.

Thanks Porvn, that helps alot. How old do you think she was at that time? Older than 17? Could she buy beer?

Probably under 22. One time we went to a burger joint and she ordered more food than anyone else and wondered how she was going to pay for it. When the bill came, she asked if someone could pay her bill and she would pay them back later which is why our group was annoyed with her. My point is that she never had any money to buy beer, if she drank. I think things started to get strained between my friend and her because they were busted for shoplifting.

That is *extremely* good info Porvn! What year was this shoplifting bust, and was it in Denton?
Editing to add if they have fingerprints on our Buckskin gal, one would think this match would have come up?

Everything was early 1981. I think they were cited and not booked.

Even if she was fingerprinted, there wasn't an online system in place to share it. It would be unlikely that a card for a misdemeanor would have been uploaded, though it might be on file somewhere.

That's great info Carbuff. I'm getting pretty excited about this lead, courtesy of Porvn. Who knows, we may finally be on to something. What a journey to find out who our Buckskin girl really is!

If you can recall the full name of your friend, I would call anonymously to the PD where they were arrested and ask if they have fingerprints for the pair, and if so, have them send Pippi's to the OH investigators.

It may also be an idea to maybe contact the shop (if it is still around) to see if they have kept any of the records - or get someone to make enquiries at a higher level.

If it was a small shop - maybe see if the proprietor is still around. There must be business records somewhere of the owners at the time.
They may not be able to remember names (yet they maybe able to) - but they may be able to ID BSG from Carls reconstruction.

At this stage, it might be a long shot, but it might be worthwhile.

If she's not from Denton that makes it tougher to figure out who she is. That's Dallas/Ft. Worth area isn't it? And hoping she wasn't already on the road if an aunt/relative wanted her out of their home. Early 1981 would have been just before she turned up in Ohio. Sure would be great to even find the friend of porvn that Pippi stayed with. That friend must have heard more about her background.

The reference dates might be old for these listings, but 'good old surnames' last for generations.

I was thinking of this approach yesterday and thinking it may be a less common surname people don't see as often as the Mac's, Mc's , O's due to the mispronunciation reference. But it is still a lot to go thru without some idea of what it sounds like, begins with, etc

I thought that too. Something more along the lines of Meagher or Callane.

I sheepishly report that I keep thinking of "Mary Margaret Gallagher" aka: the Superstar!

I know her first name was Mary or some variant of that and her last name was Irish. I remembered that because this older lady made a comment that her last name was good strong Irish surname after she said it and people were pronouncing it wrong. The fact that she was found with braids is shocking and unsettling because that is what I remembered about her. The reconstruction is a deadringer for her but the morgue photos look off. She looked more like a young Lindsay Lohan from what I remember. I might have group pictures with her somewhere. It was 35 years ago though.

Wow porvn, thanks for the info...I think if you could find her in a group pic that would be amazing. If it really is her, I think it would be so helpful to see something other than the morgue image. (I agree with you that those can never quite capture a person.)
