By Thursday, the manager at the Dairy Queen in Mount Vernon was concerned enough to investigate and let herself into the house.

The woman didn't find Herrmann or her children. What she found was blood.

How did the manager let herself into the house? Were the doors locked or unlocked when she went to the house?

If the doors were locked, how did she get into the house?

didn't Boyfriend say "she wouldn't leave the house unsecured like that"... which makes you think something was left unlocked...

another possibility is that his mother had keys to the house??? or a friend?

further thought... I wonder when police checked the house those two times if they just knocked or if they tried the doorknobs?

Just talked to MIL that lives in Apple Valley. She does not know Tina but knows of her because they are both involved with assisting an elderly lady that has a home in Apple Valley. The elderly lady is now in a nursing home, her son that lives in NY knows Tina fairly well because Tina helped take care of his elderly mother when she was still living in her home before going to the nursing home. The elderly lady has 3 small dogs that Tina was going to feed every couple days. The elderly lady's son called my MIL alarmed when he learned that Tina was missing last night, he thought there could be a possibility she could be at his mother's house, or possibly taken the car that is in the garage there since she has access to it. Or something could have happened there. However, this is not the case, the elderly lady's home has been checked and no one has been there and the car is still in the garage, Tina has not been there to feed the dogs because they were out of food.

One interesting thing is that the elderly lady's son that lives in NY and visits here frequently to visit his mother and stays at the house in Apple Valley while here, said that Tina told him a few months ago that her house was broken into and ransacked. However, there was never a report to the police of this. Another in-law family works for the pd there and said there is no report of this. Why wouldn't Tina report her home being broken into and ransacked?

I'm just going to guess that they know they have a crime scene and that's why they did the lockdown and spent all night on the case as well as still not allowing cameras up close on Friday. The key players have all been questioned but not so much that someone has yet hired a lawyer, and that's good, too. There is a crime scene lab truck in the press photo on one of the above links (the one with 3 camera men, one in a safety green jacket) speaks volumes.

Anyone know how to find the search warrant?

Wonder if Tina had any life insurance? How about the kids?

Wonder if playing golf 80 miles away would make a terrific alibi.....while someone else did a dirty deed.

The golf-playing was the next day, Thursday. Whatever happened to those women must have happened Wednesday between the time the children got home from school and the time Tina was scheduled to start her shift at Dairy Queen. We don't know of any alibis for that time.
I bet whoever drove the truck away and abandoned it Wednesday night didn't even know LE had already been by the house and had seen that it was still in the driveway AFTER she couldn't be located.

I wonder if anyone in this family circle lives near the college?

ETA: or knows someone who does.

Okay, it's kind of off topic, but am I understanding that there are three dogs at a house where no one lives, and they're only fed every couple of days or not even that often if the food runs out? I assume they've been left in the yard . :furious: I hope that is not the situation, and if it is, someone must rescue those dogs.

Odd she would tell the ransacking story to this guy and not LE. Haven't heard of anyone else mentioning it either.

That's a really, really solid question, especially if ex-bf is saying the doors were unsecured.

Where I live, and it's no "country", cops knock once, maybe twice (second being the most alarming - voices get raised), then they try to enter the house by turning the knob.
(We recently had to evict someone so that's my experience. Not saying it works the same in all places.)

I wonder if LE has spoke with each other, the first men out, and concluded if they had tried all the doors and if they were unlocked. If not, someone from the inside unlocked them when leaving and left them that way. (This is not MSM information, this is just looking over case "events" - and even those are cloudy.)

Could it be that mgr had a key and the the mgr left the door open after going in on Thursday?

updated article with video

they are awaiting update from the sheriff.

some snips:

Borders said he didn’t spend the night at Herrmann’s home because he was going golfing with a friend on Thursday.

Deputies searched the home while Borders waited outside, Bosco learned.

"He came right out after that and said, ‘I see considerable mess in the house and it looks like maybe something happened and I'm going have to get a search warrant,’" Borders said.

The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in their investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. They kept a vigil at the home throughout Friday, not commenting on what they’d found inside. They did, however, say they considered it an active crime scene.

Borders claims that he and Herrmann are losing their home to foreclosure. He says he’s hoping she ran away from that problem -- but, he says his gut tell him that something bad happened.

When Bosco asked Borders if he’d harmed his ex-girlfriend, Borders said he did not. The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t declared Borders to be a suspect, but said they did want to talk to him.

Bosco also asked Borders if there could be a romantic relationship between the two missing women. Borders said that would be news to him.

I agree, not an ideal situation for the dogs, when the son is in town he stays at the house with the dogs, and he brings his mother to the house to stay while he is there with her. The dogs do not stay outside, they are in the house, they have access to a doggy door. Apparently they are able to leave food out for these dogs they are smaller older dogs. The arrangment was for Tina to go an check on them and feed them every 2-3 days. The neighbor across the street is now checking the house and dogs daily. Tina did have keys to the house.

That doesn't sound as bad as I had thought, with the doggy door and all. They must get awfully lonesome, though, for their owner. I feel horrible for older dogs whose owners can't keep them with them anymore (and for the owners.)

This situation really highlights how close-knit this little community is. People seem to look out for each other and also seem to have an unusual willingness to give other people access to their houses. (Dog situation, manager of DQ saying he had permission to enter Tina's house.)

On the video at the link nurse just posted, Tina's house looked like it was fairly isolated. I didn't see any other houses in sight. Sometimes the video is misleading. I had pictured Stephanie living pretty close, but maybe not that close?

So if I am thinking correctly which is tough with this case the 2 women could have been killed or taken earlier on Wednesday and then when the kids came home something happened to them separately. In my opinion the boyfriend is high on my radar! There are a lot of inconsistencys with his story. The whole mom calling saying something was wrong and him saying "ahh whatever" and not paying it any mind.

  • #256
Laymon Road (where the truck was found) is about 8 miles from the house. Seems a bit of a long walk back to the house to get his own car (in case of a single perp). Unless he took a taxi back or something.

  • #257
what is really confusing is that there is no reported "last seen" time for Stephanie.

  • #258
What's really disturbing to me is the number of people missing. 2 adults, 2 children, and 1 dog. My mind does not want to think about the scenario. Even 1 person missing would be hard enough, KWIM?

Speaking of inconsistencies, I just read this article further, and according to this MSM, the 13-year old daughter was last seen Thursday at midnight:

Sarah M. Maynard

13-year-old white female
5 feet tall; 90 lbs.
Blonde or strawberry blonde hair
Green eyes
Last seen at midnight Thursday at home at 481 King Breach Drive

Is there a pulling out hair emoticon?
