I am not certain, but I believe that deaths believed to be accidental or suspicious in nature, homicide, or suicide must be viewed at the scene of the death. I think a body can only be moved with the permission of the coroner. Somebody please correct me if wrong.

I thought that an ambulance could take them to the morgue. I know that when someone dies in your home (thinking of the elderly passing away), it's often advised to contact the coroner directly rather than call 911 so avoid the ambulance charge.

In the case of a suspicious death/homicide, I'm sure LE wouldn't remove a body immediately so as not to disturb the crime scene. HOWEVER, if someone were killed in front of their eyes so to speak, no need to have that body laying around in the way. So maybe an ambulance could remove that body and take it to the morgue? Just a thought. Thankfully, I'm not well-versed/experienced in this area.

Nobody is supposed to move the body (other than look for ID and some superficial moving) until the coroner's investigator gets there. The coroner is responsible for the body and everything that is on the body. The police (or the FBI) are there to find out who killed this guy, but the coroner is there to determine the cause of death. They really don't like anybody moving the body until they have a chance to look at it. Sometimes the position gives them a clue as to the cause and method of death. Also they need to see if the lividity (where the blood has settled in the body, it will always go to the lowest point and starts about 6 hours after death, and is a pinkish, purplish color) matches the position of the body. It can also help determine time of death.
Sometimes you can get away with handling the body before the coroner arrives but you have to have a good reason. Some forensic techniques need to be done quickly.
Before the body is moved, paper bags are put over its hands to protect fingerprints, things caught under the nails etc.
Of course, if the "body" is alive it complicates matters. Paramedics are called and they take the body away, leaving no body at the scene. Paramedics tend to cut through the bullet holes in the clothing and leave medical supplies around where they can be mistaken for real evidence. A forensic investigator will usually go to the hospital and try to recover what evidence they can. If the victim dies in the hospital the body will be photographed and examined. (All hospitals have a morgue facility on premises for patients who expire.)
Just as no-one should touch the body until the coroner arrives, the coroner can't remove the body until the forensics people have collected all the evidence they need. This can sometimes take hours.
When the body can be removed, it is taken to the morgue. The people that come and collect the body and take it to the morgue are called a removal service and do not work for the coroner's office.

May be worth looking into. But there just seem to be so many other circumstances here that I don't think are coincidental.

If someone was killed in front of their eyes, they would leave the body there. It now becomes part of the existing crime scene.

Associated Press - November 14, 2010 12:55 PM ET

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - A neighbor says authorities have made an arrest and taken a body bag out of a home about 10 miles from the house of a woman and two children who disappeared last week with a friend.

I don't suppose there is any word on what lead LE to this house?

Neighbors at the scene tell NBC 4 a tall, thin man, wearing a grey hoodie was taken in to custody from the home. Moments later, a person was brought out from the home in a gurney, covered and taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Authorities have not confirmed any details and have not confirmed whether or not the crime scene is connected to the disappearance of Tina Herrmann, Sarah Maynard, Kody Maynard and Stephanie Sprang from Apple Valley on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is currently on scene.

The Mount Vernon News also reports the Knox County Coroner, Jennifer Ogle, has not been called to the scene.

Knox County Sheriff still plans to meet with media in a press conference at 2 p.m.

I'm beginning to think that someone was mistaken when they said a body was removed.

I agree. I think it was Sarah and they covered her face for privacy.

I would love to know that at this point cluciano!

There's a rumor on FB that I quoted but deleted. Would be nice if it were true, but I don't want to start a loop of someone verifying info on FB b/c they saw it here and us verifying it b/c we saw it on FB, etc. Seems to have already happened with my other deleted post. :(

I think there are some bonafide family members/friends posting on FB, but there are also folks posting things they heard at the diner.

The FB page is a mess right now -- all sort of unconfirmed rumors flying around, with family members of the missing pleading with people to stop doing that. It's so painful for them, I have to imagine, to read all sorts of terrible things that may or may not be true.

Looks like 10TV will be carrying the 2 pm press conference.
http://www.10tv.com/live/content/index.html

The Cleveland Browns NFL football game is airing live on WBNS-TV right now. I don't think they will interrupt the ball game for the news conferece.

From what I see on the WBNS website, I believe they will show a live video of the news conference on their website.

WBNS also operates the Ohio News Network that is carried on cable television systems statewide in Ohio. I'm thinking that ONN will carry this live news conference.

It happens in every missing persons case unfortunately when news such as this breaks. It's important to have several admins and when breaking news happens, remove the rumors as quick as they are posted and remove the poster if they continue to post rumors.

From where I am sitting, this town seems so small.. I am sure all the phones lit up in rotation with the "news. At this point, the FB has turned into a game of "telephone."
