Disturbing.

There is a video above that says that police have been called out to the 11-year olds school before, but not for acts of violence.

What would police be called out to a school for other than a CPS issue?

What is this world coming to?

Is there any chance she will be tried as an adult? I hope so. Someone like this should never be released into society.

from noZme's post above:
the girl cannot be tried as an adult. A child must be at least 14 years old in Ohio to be turned over to adult court.
An 11-year-old can, however, be sentenced to a state Department of Youth Services facility until age 21.

I have an 11 and 12 year old and I am pregnant with my 3rd child.
Zuri was one of the names we thought about for this baby. :tears:

My girls are SO gentle and loving with babies.
Despite that, they will learn about shaken baby syndrome... and how careful you must be with babies.
I want them to understand... I have a cousin who is blind from being shaken as a baby, by a young babysitter.

I initially thought that this girl must have been overwhelmed babysitting.
Then I realized she was not babysitting.
It appears she literally took the child upstairs with the intention to kill it.
I don't understand.

I guess it is possible she took the child upstairs and became startled when it cried.
However, I would think that smothering the child would explain that... not beating it.

Unbelievable.

IMO when children hit it comes from feeling no control and having extreme anger. She didn't smother the baby, she was mad at the baby . I could be wrong so JMO...

"The middle school the girl attends had called police about the girl on one occasion for a non-violent incident, Ice said. The girl and her mother have been questioned.

The girl did not show any remorse, Ice said. "I'm not sure she appreciated the gravity of what she did," he said."

Non-violent incident so why police? Drugs? For behavior I would think CPS would be notified, so why bring 911 to the school - something that requires immediate attention IMHO

There are some deeper issues here and somehow this girl has suffered profoundly.

Court room video...so bizarre to see such a little girl walk into the court room. :( I can't even fathom how this is possible, that she showed no remorse, almost sounds like she did it robotically. Severe deep rooted issues for sure.

A Tiny girl in pink slippers and shackled at the ankles - just a sad sad sight. The slippers looked way way to big for her BTW. Not sure how that's important right now.

"Trina Whitehead of Cleveland says the 11-year-old's mother called her around 9:30 p.m. Friday and said they were close by and that they wanted to keep Zuri Whitehead overnight at their home in the suburb of Wickliffe"
"Whitehead says she and the 11-year-old's mother were best friends and that she never saw any behavior from the child that concerned her."

9:30pm on a Friday and an 11 year old girl wants to have a sleepover with a baby? I just can't... And both moms consent... I want this to seem plausible but I struggle with this scenario and the bad choices here.

Some children want to be little caretakers. I think only children or youngest can miss out on the experience of being around a baby and seek that out. I am the youngest and I always wanted my mom's friends with infants to come over! Absent of a child being harmed or killed, it is very plausible to me. But, in this case...the girl wanted the baby there and then taking the baby upstairs and beating the baby...it does not fit an innocent explanation in my mind. With the information we have, it seems the girl wanted to beat the baby and planned to. :(

Thank you. I do understand wanting to be little mommy or take care of a baby... and for an 11 year old to suggest a sleepover at 9:30pm, I get that too. But, trying to be delicate here, I can not grasp the mothers agreeing to this at that time of night. Please know I am not throwing blame on anyone, just lamenting bad choices. It is all just so sad...

There are a lot of things that don't add up with this case. Either this little girl experienced something horrific in her short life or there is more to this story. I would say the CPS visit to the school was for suspicion of abuse that the school called in. Premeditated Murder theory implies a certain level of maturity that I don't even think someone of her age is capable of.

I agree. Unless there is information about that we aren't getting, it seems like a really last minute and bazaar time of night to grant such a request. I hesitate to even say this...but it seems planned out by her. Since she is a juvenile we might not get more information, but I hope something comes out to suggest it was not premeditated.

I did not hear about a CPS visit to the school, I believe the police were called to the school;

I know it's crazy to see such a small girl in the court room.

Side note - TBH I was thinking the same thing about the slippers.

I also wondered about the potential of this child having experienced some sort of abuse from someone at some point in her lifetime. Although, I was abused as a child and I have been horrified of hurting people ever since. But I would imagine abuse has different effects on people.

That's what I think too. Seeing her in shackles with no expression at all, to me, she looks like she is disassociative. which makes sense to some degree if she has experienced abuse. At the end of the day this girls parents failed her.

Whitehead said her two daughters, who are 8 and 7 years old, previously stayed the night at the friend's home in suburban Wickliffe without any reported problems.

She said the 11-year-old seemed like a normal, sweet girl. "I definitely trusted her," Whitehead said. "I never thought my baby would be put in some type of harm."

It's quite disconcerting that with 2 children closer to her own age why did this 11yo want the baby to sleep over?... at 9:30.... on the couch @ 3:00am
