I did some digging on Oknoname, the body of water that you spoke of Mighty that is N of Job Corp. It a water table, and does not appear that many fish there as its private land. I did find two pictures and it appears the locals do hang out there as exhibited by the graffiti...

Thanks, PB! But the road leading over it is a public access road? Anyone could drive over? Was that your impression?

As a person who considers Oklahoma her "home state", I find some of these remarks really insulting. If I were there, and in a position to help search, I'd think twice. Maybe some more "enlightened" folks from other states would be more appropriate for this task. To some, us Okies are just too backward to deal with anyone "brighter" than us. No way we would actually look for, provide care for, support the family of or just generally be good neighbors. Then insinuating that we would blame a girl for her rape because she wore a short skirt....pretty much says it all. Good luck finding Daryn Collie. After insulting most everyone in the state where he is missing from.....

Wait, why does JJ say Daryn didn't have a job or way to pay for his car? [according to Facebook NOT MSM or LE, but she posted this comment herself]. Weren't we told he was going home to get sleep before work?

Ok a few pages back I posted my opinion: he left voluntarily and has the cat. I also said it was so odd to me that he told his brother so specifically that he was going home to sleep, had to get there, needed to go to sleep by X:00 to get Y hours if sleep, etc. IMO that weirdness makes perfect sense if Daryn didn't actually have a job. BUT his employer was the one to call his parents when Daryn didn't show up for work right? So why is JJ saying he didn't have a job? I don't get it.

I pondered really hard on this for a minute....then it hit me. You must realize those that love him are in a horrid mental state right now, riddled with worry. I think she was refering to her belief that he left willingly and thus he now would not have a job....think I got my bearing straight no what this poor girl was trying to say. I too misunderstood it, but after reading it again and again, I believe she was thinking future, not present. As in future he would not have money to pay as he is now jobless, not that he did not have a job at this time....IMHO

Unless JJ meant that Daryn would not have a job wherever his destination was, so therefore he had no means to pay for the vehicle? I don't know........

We both had the same thought!

Certain FB posts strike me as being a bit odd, not in their quality of emotion but in their quality of control.

Daryn had a job in OK. It was because he failed to show up that Monday and Tuesday which prompted his boss to alert Daryn's dad and step-mom.

Something bothers me badly at this point, it was written on facebook by JJ. It was in that post just above telling us to go read her comment. Please go look and see if you spot it also. Really bugging me....IMHO

*respectfully snipped* :)

I think that is what I was referring to? The longer of her 2 comments?

EDIT: Sorry. Have scrolled down. Yes I think JJ was talking about not having a job now, not then. :)

I was thinking about Daryn's cat and if it is microchipped. If Daryn has a current vet, the microchip number might be on file with the vet in Gypsy's records. Maybe once it is found out where Daryn's vet is located, the vet office can answer that question?

I will be the first to apologize if I said anything that came off badly. I will back up my position on the police in Guthrie however. I lived in Guthrie for four and one half years. I started Chicken on the stove frying with my husband asleep on the couch, was taking a friend/neighbor to bring her brother some funds really fast at the Courthouse/Guthrie Jail. I went in with her as it was a hot evening and I did not want to sit in hot car. Well, lets just say her brother complained to her that he had not gotten fresh towels in a week in jail. (who knows) and we left the building. We were on the sidewalk headed to car, she was telling me what her brother had told her, I said, "Contact his lawyer and let him handle it". Right then, WHAM a big man grabbed her arm and my arm and said your under arrest. YUP... I went to jail...lol. Spent six hours in a disgusting cell, chicken almost caught fire at home according to husband. What was the charge...."Breach of Peace". Well I got out of the charges when Monday came and I went to DA office. But the Sheriff who arrested us, stripped us of our possessions, and placed us in lock up then told the DA we were never under arrest. Hmmmm... bit shifty. (to say the least)

There are several other things like people shooting cats in my yard, police would do nothing. Neighbors told me who did it, but would not tell the cops when they came out.... Just really different place. But then again, maybe its just me that is odd...and everyone else there is the norm, who knows...

But sorry....IMHO

And to add to Portabella's anecdotes, I don't think that the comment about blaming a girl for her own rape was anything to do with people from Oklahoma. It was said, I believe, as an example of the victim-blaming attitude that can oft be taken by people, regardless of who they are or where they come from. So, in this case, writing Daryn off as a 'weirdo' or something similar because he wasn't "ordinary" in the way he identified as a 'furry,' for example, and thus not taking a great deal of interest in the case.

I'm sorry if any of the comments on this thread have upset you. I personally have not felt like anyone has bashed Oklahoma or its residents in any general terms. Maybe offered some demographical 'analysis' of Guthrie itself as a place, but actually as someone who is unfamiliar with much of the U.S., let alone individual states and towns, it's really useful information to have and if somewhere is a little rough around the edges, important to bear in mind when we're trying to think as hard as possible about what may have happened to Daryn.

I tend just to ignore posters who haven't shown any interest whatsoever in a case in terms of actually reserarching and/or posting about what is actually in question here, but then suddenly appear from out of nowhere with an ill-placed jab at those who have.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the comment made by JJ on the FB page about what are the chances the lone key left behind was the key to her apartment.....I take it as if it IS her key, she takes that as a sign he WAS leaving on his own and wanted her to have her key back. Is that what everyone else is taking that comment as?

Also, it was stated earlier upthread that JJ has an 18 month old child. I take it as it is not DC's?

Wait a min, (sorry, don't wanna go back and erase lol). Wasn't it stated that the lone key was the key to the vehicle??

My parent, grandparents, and even great-grandparents are all from Oklahoma (even when it wasn't Oklahoma yet.) I lived in Oklahoma for 12 years, and most of my relatives live there. IMO, the powers that be in the media in Oklahoma are extremely conservative and would not be likely to spend time investigating why a male Furry might have gone missing, though they might spend lots of time on a missing married woman from, say, south Tulsa. That's not bashing Oklahoma.

Also, the rape comment, I'm sure, was only an example of the way people in general tend to blame the victim.

Note also that NO media outlet in Oklahoma has reported on Daryn's disappearance.

ETA Somehow I quoted your post, graceholl, instead of the one I was answering. Just to be clear, I'm agreeing with you here.

Daryn had a job!

Regarding the key apparently found in the Nitro and an earlier post here regarding its purpose, I would refer the reader to two JJ posts on FB on that subject which seem to be diametrically opposed, made within four hours of one another. Of itself, of course, it means nothing.

That's true. I hadn't thought of that.

I'm not seeing the OK hatin' that you are claiming to see, Amster. Could you give some examples other than the one I gave about the rape victim? Because that is a universal attitude and not just in OK, and I don't think I implied that it was JUST OK. We have a number of dedicated members from OK who are working their butts off on this case, and we respect the beejeezus out of them. And if you are seeing real "hate" for "Okies," as you say, then how about joining the WS efforts to find Daryn and proving them wrong? Thank you for your input! Have a great day! :seeya:
