Well, one down and at least one to go. It really really smells.

Has this been posted? Someone embroiled in a lawsuit with Bates secretly recorded their conversation at a restaurant in 2012.

Secret Recording Captures Conversation With Volunteer Deputy

During the exchange, Bates boasted of his connections in the sheriff's department and the U.S. attorney's office and suggested he could make life miserable for the plaintiffs.

The audio recording, obtained by The Associated Press from the court file of a federal case that was later dismissed, reveals the corporate executive as a man who bragged about using his position in the sheriff's office to help powerful friends and whose work as a reserve deputy added a spark to his life.

Where did you hear all that? He ran because he had a warrant for child support. He was pulled over for a traffic violation. I am sure both of those are absolutely death penalty crimes, though. (eyeroll)

Time - That's an incredible ABC News article. So filled with stuff.

I keep thinking about those two early on reporters for the Tulsa World who resigned a couple of weeks ago, at which point people began questioning their reports but, it seems that they had some good solid sources early on. All the stuff coming out now was alluded to in their articles from almost the beginning.

:seeya: Hi Stephanie, I'm not sure which post you are responding to, but this thread is for Eric Harris who was shot accidentally while selling a gun to an undercover cop during an undercover gun sting. Walter Scott was the individual pulled over for a traffic violation and ran.

I was looking back to see what the two Tulsa World journalists are doing now. While I haven't answered that question yet, I happened upon this early article which contains some interesting information and is worth a read.

Sheriff's Office confirms names of deputies in video, says they didn't hear gunshot
Officials confirm deputies’ names

http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/loca...cle_5e492153-5a2a-55c4-9fee-afc92dbd3a4d.html

A couple of snips

"A deputy who made a callous comment to a man who had just been shot did not hear the gunshot and didn’t know the man had been wounded, sheriff’s officials told the Tulsa World.

When asked by the World to confirm whether two names on a court witness list were those of the deputies depicted in a video of the fatal shooting, Undersheriff Tim Albin confirmed their names."

*

"In the video, Harris can be heard saying, “I’m losing my breath,” to which a deputy replies, “F- — your breath.”

The deputy who made that statement to Harris after he had been shot is Joseph Byars. Deputy Michael Huckeby is shown in the video kneeling on Harris’ head as a deputy yells at Harris, “You shouldn’t have ran,” and “Shut the f- — up.”"

"Byars and Huckeby were serving with the Violent Crimes Task Force that conducted the undercover gun buy that led to Harris’ death April 2.

Byars, 38, has worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 2001. Huckeby, 24, was hired June 1, 2014, records show. His father, Maj. Tom Huckeby, has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for about 25 years.

Albin initially said Michael Huckeby was a member of the task force, working undercover. He later said the deputy was assigned to a retail crime task force but was assisting the violent crime task force the day Harris was shot."

So, we have Bates, the play cop, who can't tell the difference between a gun and a taser even though he carries them in different places on his body, and we have Huckeby, a one year veteran of the Sheriff's Office (whose daddy is a Major and 25 year veteran of the same Sheriff's Office) and who normally looks out for shoplifters. And, we have Byers the 38 year old "kid" who has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2001 who in the video tells Harris who is losing his breath to “F- — your breath.” And Albin who quit earlier this week is covering and making excuses for everyone.

And, no one hears a gunshot?

Secret Recording Captures Conversation With Volunteer Deputy

JMO
I heard about this in the news. This all but proves this volunteer was a very arrogant person who did want to "play cop". He himself says on the tape that he wanted to get back into it because it keeps him "alive" or something like that. Implying that he does it for the adrenaline rush. He really seemed like someone we dont need in LE. An itchy trigger finger just wanting action. Those are all the wrong reasons.

I think he wanted to be the hero. I believe he may have made a mistake and got carried away. But even so, I think some form of charges are valid in that situation. Something like manlslaughter type charges seem to be the right kind of charge.

People get manslaughter even in car wrecks when it was an accident. I think that is the proper charge. And keep this guy from ever being a volunteer again.

ETA: And the most shocking and serious thing on the tape was where he implied he had LE people doing him favors for his attorney friend. Implying that charges may have been dropped or lowered on certain people just because he was able to talk to his LE friends who did him favors for his friend. The old Ill pat your back and you pat mine.

This was serious admission by him but he said it in a generic way as to not totally admit it but it sure was implied and there is no other way to interpret it other than what it sounded like.

I have located the current whereabouts of journalists Dylan Goforth and Viva Branstetter. They have a new 9 page article that details some of the information they have learned.

The article itself is in the form of a Scribd document and I don't know how to copy and paste from it but a couple of items stand out to me

- The article refers to a 2009 document throughout. In it, then Capt Tom Huckeby (now Major) is featured prominently in what amounts to the great coverup. I wonder if he will be the next retire?

- The article reveals a little more about Bates career in insurance and the relationship with Glanz. It specifies that Bates helped Glanz when Glanz's son was in an auto accident. It doesn't include any further details but it does cause me to wonder if perhaps there was insurance fraud involved on the part of Glanz or Bates or both? The two seem joined at the hip and yet Bates, especially doesn't seem that likeable to me.

You can access the document from Dylan Goforth's Facebook page at:

https://www.facebook.com/dgoforthtw?fref=nf

Refer to the April 27th entry: "Tulsa County Undersheriff Tim Albin’s resignation comes three days after release of a 2009 internal affairs investigation report, first obtained by The Frontier, into Bates’ training as an advanced reserve deputy."

This is probably one of the good guys. Someone who spoke against any cover up. He is also someone who knows things. I wonder if it was his idea to resign?

Hmmm how tight are the sheriff and the owner of the paper? How many connections between the owner of the paper and the city administration like city council?

Maybe you should read some of the articles, especially the new one I provided a link to earlier today, and Time kindly provided a link to a downloadable PDF.

Thanks i.b.nora and time for the links you have provided. I thought the situation was bad when we learned Bates fired his gun instead of his taser and killed Harris but this just keeps getting worse as more information comes out. Bates is sounding more and more like an entitled bully and so are all the higher ups at the Sheriff's dept. who seemed to have been more interested in Bates and his $$$ than ensuring the safety of the citizens they were suppose to protect.

OKLAHOMA BUREAU MULLS SHERIFF'S OFFICE PROBE AFTER SHOOTING
BY JUSTIN JUOZAPAVICIUS AND ALLEN REED
ASSOCIATED PRESS

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma's top investigative agency is considering a district attorney's request to examine allegations of misconduct in the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, following the shooting of a restrained man by a volunteer deputy and the release of a 2009 memo that raised concerns about the adequacy of his training.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a news release Thursday that it will confer with "investigative and prosecutorial entities with jurisdiction in this case" before deciding whether to investigate.

Tulsa former reserve deputy Robert Bates cancels Bahamas trip after fallout from fatal shooting
Robert Bates bows to public outrage and spends time at his Florida home instead.

Tulsa World
Wednesday May 13, 2015
By COREY JONES World Staff Writer

"Former reserve Deputy Robert Bates decided against a trip to the Bahamas and instead spent a couple of days at his Florida home after a storm of public scorn engulfed him, his attorney said Tuesday."

*

Bates’ conditions of bail didn’t necessitate he tell the court of his vacation plans, Brewster said, but he wanted to be “transparent and open to the court” to ensure there wouldn’t be issues associated with it.

“When there was such a public outcry and misinterpretation of his intentions to go on that trip, that played a part in his decision-making, as well as the idea he’s facing serious legal issues that he wants to be available to respond to,” Brewster said.

*

The canceled trip was to spend time with his family and grandchildren in the Bahamas. Instead, Brewster said, Bates spent a couple of days at his Florida home but has been in Tulsa ever since awaiting his next court date.
A preliminary hearing in the case is slated for July 2."

Okay, so this gets complicated but it seems that Sheriff Stanley Glanz (or someone who works for him) is trying to shift blame and focus off of him and his deputies to Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan.

City demands county cease and desist connecting TPD chief to Bates
A cease-and-desist letter to Tulsa County makes the demand.

Tulsa World
Posted: Thursday, May 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated: 1:38 pm, Thu May 14, 2015.
By JARREL WADE World Staff Writer

"A Monday letter from City Attorney David O’Meilia to Tulsa County officials demanded an immediate cease and desist regarding the county’s recently suspended spokesman connecting the city’s police chief to former Reserve Deputy Robert Bates."

*

"Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan was told that Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Shannon Clark was encouraging local media outlets to write about Jordan’s time at the Sheriff’s Office before being named chief, according to O’Meilia’s letter.

On Monday, Sheriff’s Office officials announced Clark was put on administrative leave while his job performance was evaluated. It is not clear whether the letter, also sent Monday, and the announcement were related.

Before Jordan was named Tulsa’s Police Chief in 2010, he worked at the Sheriff’s Office and was in charge of the reserve-deputy program, among other responsibilities."

Colleagues questioned Robert Bates years before fatal shooting...

"As early as 2008, colleagues questioned the behavior of Robert Bates, the volunteer Oklahoma deputy reserve who shot an unarmed black man in Tulsa earlier this month, according to documents obtained by NBC News.

A memo dated Dec. 17, 2008 cited a sergeant telling a captain that Bates was using his personal vehicle to make unauthorized traffic stops, which violates the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office policy, NBC reported on Friday."
