OK OK - (GUILTY) - Kirsten Hatfield, 8, Midwest City, 14 May 1997 *Killer murdered in prison

So he gave a DNA sample back in 1997 or this past June? I'm confused. How in the world did they not get this guy sooner? *sigh*

According to an arrest warrant affidavit filed Monday in Oklahoma County District Court, Miller requested FBI assistance in reviewing all of the old evidence and discovered that several key pieces — most notable among them bloodstains on Kirsten's underwear, which was found in the backyard, and on her bedroom windowsill — either went untested or came back inconclusive because the technology to test it at the time was limited.

Palma Was Found Guilty Of Violent Assault Years Before MWC Disappearance

The date was February 4, 1982.

Court documents say on that day, Palma forced his way in through "an outer side door" of a Walters woman's home.

Once inside, he "struck, clubbed and beat" that woman with a "soft drink bottle."

The woman had severe wounds to her "head, face and body."

A month later, Palma was arrested for the crime.

But before he went to trial prosecutors requested a blood sample.

That's because a "blood stained shirt was located near the scene of the crime," evidence the prosecutor called "incriminating."

‘It’s a time-consuming, very painstaking process,’ Investigators search for body of Kirsten Hatfield

Police Chief Brandon Clabes tells us Palma isn't giving officers any information right now.

Investigators are carefully combing Palma's yard with ground-penetrating radar.

"It's a time-consuming, very painstaking process. Typically, they go foot by foot, so we may be here for days, up to weeks before we clear this scene," Clabes said.

We've learned Palma visited with an attorney in jail today, but he hasn't hired anyone. And he's still waiting to be formally arraigned on charges for first degree murder.

We also know police are looking into whether Palma could be linked to more missing child cases.

Do we know what provoked that attack? Palma was 23 at the time. Was it related to his behaviour with a child? I'd be VERY surprised if it wasn't. I would also certainly like to have access to those court docs if anyone can link me please.

I looked at oscn.net and didn't see much, just a marriage, some financial things, and the new charges. He is on Oklahoma department of corrections but there are no case details. Just the basic offender profile.

Investigators using cadaver dogs in search for Kirsten Hatfield’s body

http://kfor.com/2015/10/15/investigators-resume-search-for-kirsten-hatfields-body-at-suspects-midwest-city-home/

The search for Kirsten Hatfield's body will continue Friday morning.

Thursday, investigators still could not find any human remains at Anthony Palma's home.

Clabes expects the search to be a long process that may not lead them to Kirsten's body - at the house, at least.

They aren't ruling out searching where Palma works at Lake Thunderbird.

"Obviously, that could be an option in the future, where we would go," Clabes said. "Lake Thunderbird's a big piece of property. You'd have to have more specifics. We couldn't just go out there and look."

Interview with Kirsten's grandfather, he would like to give her a proper burial before he passes.

If the motive had been anything to do with his bad behavior with a child, it would have come out in the trial. And the reporter who read the 91 pages of court documents would have definitely mentioned it in the article.

I don't think those records are available online because it happened in 1982 in Cotton County, OK.

Thanks, SS. I still find it rather odd that it took a month to arrest him - i.e. as if it were a random act on a stranger in their home. I'd like to know if it were revenge for something prior (a confrontation) in order to learn whether he is impulsive, or a premeditative individual. plus... motive

He was under surveillance. Something triggered his arrest and LE has not disclosed what that event was.

We also don't know why, after all these years he was under surveillance instead of arresting him after the DNA match.

More to come...

I can already tell you he is a planner. He obviously made a plan to abduct and sexually assault an 8 year old child. He could have devised the plan quickly, but he went two doors down in the middle of the night with full intent. Her window happened to be unlocked so did he just get "lucky" or did he know it was unlocked because he cased the house? Did he ever gain access to the home and perhaps unlock it himself? Did he offer to mow the lawn to gain full access to the yard and get a better look at the windows of the house to see which room she was in before abducting her? How did he know which room she slept in?

I don't know him so I am just speculating, but this man sounds like he possibly obsesses before he acts. We know his motive with the abduction was sexual and I suspect there was a sexual motive for the assault in Walters (maybe she fought him off?). When he broke into the woman's home, he took the same risk as when he broke into Kirsten's home. When he left, he dropped a bloody shirt on her lawn. When he left Kirsten's, he dropped a bloody pair of underwear on her lawn. Sounds almost like he did it on purpose, but he could just be that careless. At least his lack of attention to detail finally got him caught.

“It has been emotionally draining for us,” Chief opens up about Kirsten Hatfield case

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - Midwest city's police chief is opening up about the case that has haunted him for the last 18 years.

For almost two decades, Chief Brandon Clabes has been searching for answers in the disappearance of Kirsten Hatfield.

~Snip~

"I've always said, before I retire, I don't plan on retiring any time soon, but I said, before I left, I wanted to," Clabes said.

A promise to find the person who took Kirsten from her bedroom that night in May of 1997.

~Snip~

"This is like a check off your bucket list," Clabes said. "Now, the next step is we want to find her, and it has been emotionally draining for us."

An item on the list, to help find this little girl and bring her home, no matter what it takes.

Seems like Palma is a disorganized offender. They often leave things behind at crime scenes. Bloody shirt for his assault case in the 80s and Kirsten's panties with his blood, for instance. Disorganized offenders also often attack blitz style, which based on the details of his assault case, seems to fit the profile. We don't know how Kiersten was killed so we can't make any assumptions in that regard (yet.)

I wonder what possessed him to voluntarily provide his DNA sample. Perhaps he figured he'd gotten away with it after all these years, so he was safe. But you'd have to be living under a rock not to hear about all the recently solved cold cases due to improved DNA testing. Especially if you had committed such a heinous crime, wouldn't you be paying attention to that kind of news?

I hope they find her body so her family can say their good-byes in a proper way.

Extension granted to gather evidence at Midwest City cold cast suspect's home

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —Detectives have been granted an extension to file charges against a man who was arrested last week in connection with the 1997 disappearance of a Midwest City girl.

They told the district attorney's office that they needed the extension to gather more evidence at Anthony Palma's house. Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater granted a 10-day extension, officials said.

No stone left unturned indeed. They have ripped up floor boards and cement pads. They are tearing it up one piece at a time in order to find Kirsten. There won't be much left of the house for the wife and daughter, but finding Kirsten takes precedence.

But a disorganized offender also tends to leave their sexual assault/murdered victims out in the open to be found. He should have a sketchy work history which this guy seems to be fairly stable with long term jobs. There are other traits he does share with a disorganized offender, but maybe he falls in between the two dichotomies.

I still believe he planned to kidnap Kirsten and cased the house before he did it. I don't know for certain if he knew her mother, but he could have been friendly like he has done in the recent past with the woman living in the house now. Regardless, he knew ahead of time which room was Kirsten's. He knew the window wasn't locked, imo.
