Welcome to WS, avmzlv. This case needs sleuthers.

It's my understanding that Shane was shot to death by a Craig County deputy. I have no idea where that person is today. As the deputy job can be high turnover - the pay in the county can't be too competitive - he may have taken another position. Also, he may also leave when the sheriff is voted out or doesn't run for election again. Or he may simply be out of law enforcement.

As for psychics, can't help you there. They may or may not have been asked to do whatever it is they do, which imo isn't much and isn't helpful. But at this point, going on eleven years after the crime, we are all frustrated.

Welcome azmzlv! This case needs sleuthers- and some feet on the ground too.

wfgodot: how the heck did I manage to forget about psychics??? Perhaps they are/were listed in the Craig County records. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I just say 'records'?

Out of curiosity I ran some web searches on broken collarbone and gun and on broken collarbone
and crime and other variations. At first I filtered results to the year 1999 but later
I removed the year filter.

I found that such an injury was not mentioned to have been caused by being hit by a
gun in the articles I was able to find (the lone exception was someone that was actually
shot in the collarbone but was not hit by the gun itself.)

I also searched the most often causes of broken collarbone. Wrestling and contact sports is
mentioned near the top of the articles on causes of collarbone injuries. Also falls cause
many such injuries.
'. . .Participating in sports such as football, basketball, soccer, wrestling, rugby, hockey,
skiing and snowboarding increases your risk of a broken collarbone. . . .'
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/broken-collarbone/DS01184/DSECTION=risk-factors

But falling is listed at the top of that causes list.
' . . . Falling onto a shoulder is the most common cause of a broken collarbone.
Although a less common cause, falling onto an outstretched hand can also result in
a broken collarbone. . . .'
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/broken-collarbone/DS01184/DSECTION=causes

I suppose it is possible that someone diving out of the way of a gun being pointed at them might
suffer such an injury.

So what would one feel?

'. . .Symptoms of a broken collarbone include:

  • Immediate pain after falling or being hit on the collarbone or in the shoulder area.
  • Inability to raise the affected arm because of pain.
  • A grinding feeling when trying to lift the affected arm. . . .'
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/broken-collarbone-clavicle-topic-overview

I was only using a generic search engine so perhaps others have access to better info.

Why do I care about the broken bone?
If the bone was broken due to him being beaten I would think you might be looking at more
than one intruder. As many know, you can't turn your back on the women when their man
is in a fight. So I would guess maybe one to hold a gun on the women and one to
rough up the man.

But if the broken bone was caused by a fall or by diving out of the way of a pointed gun
then there might only be one armed perp needed to do the crime.

Additionally, if the broken bone was caused by a beating it might possibly rule out the girls
having the needed strength to cause the injury.

We in Oklahoma wonder daily what the heck is going on here.

Okies keeping or carrying large amounts of cash has to be understood in context: if such behavior is prevalent here as opposed to other states, one has to think back to the Great Depression, to banks foreclosing on farmers, to banks failing, to Dust Bowl times. I would guess that we rank low in trust of bankers and financial institutions, based on extended family experience with such critters. Cash stored with venison in the freezer is cash on hand - it's not going to go to pay what we owe unless we want it to, no matter who's beefing about our debt. It can be seized only at the pointing of the barrel of our weapon (unregistered, of course).

It's also handy if we're drug addicts making a spur-of-the-moment transaction.

To me, a "large amount of cash on hand" these days is anything over a thousand dollars. (Right now, I have twenty-eight dollars and fifty-three cents on my person!)

Exactly why I have a concealed/carry weapon permit. I surely isn't getting any better. I hope things are changing with the OSBI.:furious:

Just a couple of things, according to UM, Mrs. Freeman was laying on the bed when she was found with a hole in her head, could the perp have shot Mrs. Freeman first and Mr. Freeman woke from the blast and a struggle insued? Where were the girls? Were they tied up in the perps vehicle and he came back in to kill the Freeman's and steal the money from the freezer and start the fire? I almost feel like it is someone who knows the family but is not close them. He probably did not know Ashley had a friend over and she, Lauria, had money in her possession, somehow he got Ashley to tell him where the money was located. It seems to me like a robbery gone bad. We need to get a timeline going, this would help.

I believe there is a timeline aways back, I'll try to dig it up.

Are there robberies that go well, LOL? I think they go bad when no one is caught....so I guess this one went very well. :(

Off to search for the timeline...I know we had one posted at some point.

I don't think anyone's ever done a formal timeline here, the kind with, say, Roman numerals and where if you have an A you must also have a B. A good one would probably incorporate both Jeremy Jones's and Tommy Lynn Sells's activities around the time of this crime, as well as account for details of Shane Freeman's crime and subsequent death, the murder of DeAnna Dorsey, etc. etc.

Couldn't find one really either, wfgodot. Variants of, but nothing great. Perhaps you would? If I yodel for you? I am wicked busy. :)

And entirely coincidentally, I've just been reviewing the paucity of resources in re: the Freeman/Bible case on this thing our brave forefathers called The Information Superhighway - the fabled "interwebs." Actually, there's quite a bit (in comparison with, say, The Missing Jamisons), but all of it is static, just sets there, never renews itself, is as a thing mocking its creator. Okay, okay, I'll see what I can do over the weekend but this could be epic fail territory. Other volunteers? Anyone, anyone? Clever personages ready for duty? Younger people?

Shoot, and here I thought being in your 30's was still young. ;)

I'll do it by, maybe, Monday? But other volunteers sure would be nice.

Really, you released this information TEN YEARS AFTER...who would remember seeing a car in 1999? Really? :banghead:

This info-release must be part of OSBI's newish cold case efforts - "efforts," perhaps I should say. Bordering on useless information, really, but good to have I guess. A dark four-door sedan headed Welch-wards, a heavy duty truck bound for Chetopa, and Mrs. Bible's statement re: the rumored light blue car - I was driving a light blue car at the time, as were, oh, scores of people in NE OK and SE KS. Dark four-door sedans and heavy duty trucks? Abundant then and now.

But OSBI gets its name in the news and justifies its decade of questionable efforts in this case, and also its very existence. And I'm left with a bitter aftertaste about this wretched mess.

I hear ya, OSBI is a laughing stock! I haven't posted on this forum in a long time because I know you have to be verified through Tricia if you are family. I'm not sure exactly how to do that? My sister-in-law is Lauria's cousin and Lorene her mother is like an aunt to me. I don't have "inside information" per se, but I do believe I can get Lorene to come here and answer a few questions for you all. I can answer some questions but I was the same age as Lauria when she went missing and I remember that day vividly, but it was all a bunch of confusion and chaos.

That would be great, as we are badly in need of anything resembling information, particularly from someone closer to the case - that's inside information enough, considering how little info, period, that we have.

I see that Cubby was the moderator who merged the two Freeman/Bible threads, so I assume that if you pm'd that mod you could learn the hows and wherefores of getting verified. Not exactly sure who is technically in charge of this thread, but I think Cubby would know how to start the ball rolling.

Believe me, your input alone would restore much life to at least the WS side of figuring out this sad case, and of course any input from Lorene would be extra-welcome. Thanks for being here.

Details in unsolved murders released: Vehicle descriptions given in Freeman-Bible case
---
“If they had this information and didn’t think it was credible, what makes it credible 11 years later?” [Lauria's mother Lorene] Bible asked in a telephone interview.
---
Bible thinks the presence of a film crew for a proposed new documentary-style television show about missing children may have sparked the new information about the truck. She said the crew was in Craig County in September filming and interviewing family members and law enforcement personnel, and may have generated the lead. The show could air in June, although that has yet to be announced for certain, she said.
---
Max McCoy, a former investigative reporter with the Globe who looked into the case extensively in a special investigation for the newspaper two years after the murders, said he recalls being told by family members about a vehicle that reportedly was seen in the area (most likely the light-blue car [and not the dark brown car mentioned in OSBI's report] ).

Welch girls still missing after 11 years
---
[Lauria's mother Lorene Bible] has spent the past 11 years, handing out fliers, talking to the media, doing whatever she can to try and find her daughter, Lauria Bible and her friend Ashley Freeman.

Bible tells 2NEWS, "I put on my investigative hat. I go knock on doors. I talk to people to see where it leads. I go to the county Sheriffs and say lets talk about this. What are you doing?"

Bible says nothing will distract her from her mission of trying finding the truth about what happened Lauria and Ashley.

"It's like John Walsh told me, you have to decide today if you want to go and hide and closet and take stuff to help you cope, or if you are going to get out there and be the person who is your daughter's voice and fights to find her."

Just saw this show and had the following question....
Was Joseph Duncan ruled out of committing the Bible/Freeman abduction/murders?

Was Joseph Duncan ruled out of committing the Bible/Freeman abduction/murders?

from Wiki:
Duncan was arrested in Kansas and returned to prison in 1997 after violating the terms of his parole. Duncan was released from prison on July 14, 2000
