It would seem that the bodies not being able to be ID’d that they must not have had wallets or any identifiable clothes/shoes. Seems odd that one of the spouses hasn’t been able to ID one.

If you are talking about a spouse visually identifying her husband. That is rarely done anymore. Too many mis identifications, too traumatic on loved ones, better methods available. Moo.

Agree. I’m wondering if they owed someone money or were supposed to do a deal of some sort and got into trouble. Is there much gang or even cartel activity in that area?

All speculation MOO.

Very strange case.
Past couple weeks, multiple arrests of groups of people for trafficking huge amounts of drugs. Way ore serious than possession or cooking up dope out in the sticks. But nothing about their background denotes involvement w/drug activity at that level.
That they took out w/bikes and attached wagons in tow headed for the salvage yard makes me think they ran into trouble [possibly] over catalytic converters, expensive car parts. Those theft rings extremely profitable and just as cut throat as the dope game.
W/out further info, the simplest explanation is they went to meet up with person(s) via FB marketplace to buy or trade scrap metal but person(s) they went to meet up with had criminal intentions all along.
I think one of the published timelines said they were at the 1st salvage yard for about 3 hours.

I wonder if it was just the phones that were there, and the men had already been knocked out, or tied up or taken, or whatever befell them?

Otherwise, what would they be doing there for 3 hours?

Local here. Important time frame -> 8 to 8.30pm. They were seen leaving the house around 8pm. Per police and cell phone tracker app on Mark Chastain's cell phone, pings at salvage yard #1, Murphy Gas Station, and second salvage yard further South. But stops tracking/pinging around 8.30pm (phone off w/28% battery remaining).

Though able to track one of the phones, police Chief Prentice has made clear "Without an actual appearance of the men on video along the path we have been able to establish by phone data, we can't definitively say the missing men took that path. Rather only one of their phones did."

In regards to the car and the bikes.
"""""All four men are considered to be close friends and were believed to have left Billy Chastain's home on bicycles on the west side of Okmulgee on Sunday around 8 p.m.""""

"""Mark’s wife, Jessica Chastain, told 2 News he parked his beloved, red car at a house owned by the Chastain family on Sunday. It's where the four men would often hang out.""""

So, clearly at least to me, Mark drove to Billy's house, met with the other 3 and they left from there on bikes.

"""Two from the group are believed to be in possession of their mobile phones, though multiple calls went straight to voicemail. However, police were able to track Mark Chastain’s phone in an area south of Okmulgee, “but it was turned off or lost power” after that, said police.
Investigators tracked the phone’s ping to a junkyard off Highway 75, according to KJRH-TV.""""

Rivers in that area are full (and I do mean full) of snapping turtles. Snappers will eat almost anything.

Why didn't all of the guys take their cell phones along?
A simple explanation: Maybe they didn't have a cell phone mount or an apparatus to keep their phone secure while riding their bike and were afraid of losing or sitting on their phone.
I've left my cell behind for this reason.

You can search court records here by last name only and then scroll to the county you're interested in.

Right. And something LE hasn't mentioned, possibly details they sometimes intentionally w/hold from public, is if they have any info from other cell phone.

There are only 2 yards involved in this case. The first one in town, where the phone was shown to be.

Then the phone was taken 6.2 miles to the 2nd salvage yard and was turned off. I haven't seen anything saying the victims ever went to a 2nd or 3rd yard.

Murdering 4 men for some used bikes and pocket money doesn't sound plausible to me.
Well said. Sadly, I think the totality suggests:

- One victim appears to have a restoration / hot rod hobby. The crew bicycle to the yard with a specific target car in mind for specific parts. They are not adverse to taking other high dollar or interesting things if they find any and if they are easily obtainable.

- An enraged person confronts the victims at the scrapyard and the victims are killed. The killer is in a panic and unsure of what to do. Three of the bodies are taken to the second scrap yard where the killer intends to seek advise, assistance etc.

- One body is left behind in the rushed panic. Or, perhaps the killer does not realize that his gunfire struck a fourth person.

- The killer, possibly with assistance, then throws the bodies into the creek in an attempt to conceal them, wash away evidence?

Okmulgee has a population of almost 12,000. LE has to know, likely personally, all the criminals in town. Has LE said these 4 were committing a crime by stealing from the junk/scrap yard?

Are there locals who are familiar with Okmulgee?

I am wondering if the bridge/river area where the bodies were found is a popular location for locals or is it more remote/not frequented much?

To me it looks remote and in/near a wildlife area. Did the person or people who dumped the bodies in the river do it in the hopes the deceased would be hidden/decompose/wash away or were they doing it as an "example" (for whatever reason) or to intimidate the locals?

MOO.

I wonder if this means they routinely kept pushbikes at Billy’s house. This would suggest to me whatever they were doing, it wasn’t the first time.

JC says MC parked at a Chastain house (I’m guessing Billy’s then), so he arrived by car. Can’t see him lugging his bike around in his beloved red car. The others in theory may have cycled there but I’m somehow not feeling that.

I also think the use of cycles implies stealth and not wanting to get pulled up by LE.

Multiple agencies, including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Boat Team, were at the river to assist with the recovery process.

I listened to the press conference from Friday again. The chief mentions two crime scene techs from OSBI and the Medical Examiners Forensic Anthropologist is on the way or may be in scene by now.

He calls the remains "objects" multiple times. IMO, today we may learn the men were dismembered.

"One can know with out truly knowing...." - Cryptic

OK, faux zen aside,

LE might be hesitant to say the men were suspected of stealing from the scrap yard due to the lack of any direct evidence.

I agree with you, however, that the police would personally know local criminals of what ever scale. They would also personally know the owner of the two scrapyards, their families and their employees.

Given the totality, I suspect they plan on having a series of conversations with people connected to the two scrapyards.

I will be absolutely floored if this is not where this is going.

Glad to see the state level OSBI is involved. Hopefully, the local police are also open to requesting state level investigatory assistance as well.

If there is a forensic anthropologist required, then the remains are in really bad conditions. Burnt, dismembered, or something.

Is there a press conference scheduled today? Thanks!

But they knew quickly that they were 4 adults and men. That seemed clear to them.
