SAPULPA, Oklahoma - The Creek County Sheriff's Office says it has made an arrest in connection with the assault of a 4-year-old Creek County girl in her mobile home early Friday morning.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Tommy Braden, the boyfriend of the girl's mother. He is in Creek County Jail and will go before a judge Wednesday.

Arresting someone and actually indicting them are two different things.

He was arrested.
It was said that he "would LIKELY BE charged..."
We haven't seen that official charges have been filed.

That's the distinction here.

It makes me think that they might not have their man. It seemed from the reports that this was a very sloppy, ugly crime scene. I would think they would have evidnce if it was the stepdad. Like cuts or abrasions and blood in the drains. I don't get this one.

Investigators arrested 24-year old Tommy Braden on one count of child sexual abuse. Investigators say Braden knew the family and had access to the home.

One count of child sexual abuse.

Hopefully that is just what they are using to hold and when lab tests come back he will be charged with something a tad more serious than child sexual abuse. Aggravated rape, possibly attempted murder if the hospital says she would have died from the injuries had she not received care, destroying evidence, obstruction via staging a crime scene, false statements to a police officer, cruelty to animals.

There was also an emergency protective order issued the day of the 911 call, a week before the arrest, but it names the mother and both children with their full names visible so I am not personally posting it.

While I am on a posting to myself run here I will mention child sex abuse can carry a life sentence in Ok. I am looking for the statute and seeing how often that sentence is actually exercised by the court.

This says he ' KNEW THE FAMILY." I thought he was the father of the 2 yr old? Is that correct, or no?

yes, I knew it was the youngest and not the victim that he was the father of. But still it sounds weird to say 'he knew the family.' FGS he lived there and was the breadwinner and caretaker. :furious:

The weak charge almost makes me wonder if they didn't get him to admit to something minor that isn't the actual crime? It really is a strange thing to charge him with considering the crime.

That article is from over a week ago. I don't see where he's been officially charged yet. Arraignment is 4/24 so maybe we'll learn more then.

He's held on $350,000 bond, charged with 1 count of child abuse...

Possibly at the formal arraignment more charges will be added...I can only assume obstruction charges due to his setting the home up to look like an intruder...lied to police, could be another charge. assault/battery of a minor...but I do believe for now, he's charged with one count of child abuse...he can also face life, if convicted..
