Richard Thurman Hitchcock, 33, was last seen in the Granfield area on November 9, 2019. Hitchcock is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet tall and 160 pounds.
  • Hitchcock’s wife last saw him on November 8 when she was leaving for work. She spoke to him later in the day and he said he was going to a fish fry.
  • Witnesses confirm he was at the fish fry.
  • He then went to the McDonalds he manages in Altus and was seen there between 3 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
  • He was next seen at the United Supermarket in Altus at 10 p.m. on November 8.
  • On November 9, he was seen by a local farmer walking in a field North and West of Davidson. He told the farmer he ran out of gas. She took him to a store in Davidson and went back to the field to locate his car. She found the car southwest of Tipton.
  • He received a ride from the store in Davidson to Granfield to look for his car.
  • He was dropped off at State Highway 54 and U.S. Highway 70 in Granfield and last seen walking to the south into a field.
  • Police pinged his phone, which last hit off a tower just across the border in Texas.
Altus Police began looking for Hitchcock after he was reported missing by his wife. Police conducted land and air searches in the area of 54 and 70 in Granfield. They located footprints and tracked them until they disappeared.

The part about the car is confusing. It's not clear if the car was found abandoned or he took off with it. It looks like the farmer went back without him and found the car. He could have reached the car later.

I checked SM and the car indeed appears to have been located.

I don’t understand this timeline or locations...

This earlier article is much clearer. He appears to be missing without his car:
Altus Police continue search for Richard Hitchcock

"Agents followed some footsteps in a cotton field. The terrain changed, and we lost the foot track,” said Detective Jade Terbush.

Terbush said they found the vehicle Hitchcock was in, with an empty gas tank.

His cell phone has been off since November 9th.

ETA: According to the video from the article, he appeared to have been last seen in a field halfway between Davidson and Grandfield. Not sure how his phone could have pinged across the border in Texas, if he walked into the field.

Correction: His wife logged into his account, but made no posts.

Where he was last seen isn't near the location of his car. He was also walking in a different direction (south).

His fb cover picture is of his daughter who died 5 years ago. He's deeply religious (wants to "minister the world over social media") and a musician. He appears to be well liked by everyone.

It seems strange that he would ask to be dropped off in the middle of nowhere.

Has anyone heard/seen an update? This just seems so bizarre to me.
I looked at his FB and was reading comments. On one he commented about being excited for some kind of worship concert of some kind on Nov 9th. Which just so happened to be the day he was last seen???
Here’s the info on that. Doesn’t seem like something he’d willingly miss...

While his last known location was south Tillman County, Detective Jade Terbush said through interviews, they’ve learned he’s been in Jackson County, too.

“He was last seen in Tillman County Saturday afternoon. From that point, we went to the last known location. Agents followed some footsteps in a cotton field. The terrain changed, and we lost the foot track,” said Detective Jade Terbush.

Terbush said they found the vehicle Hitchcock was in, with an empty gas tank.

At that point, investigators believe he was picked up by a stranger, taken to a store in Davidson, then to another all the way in Grandfield, 25 miles away.

“After Grandfield, the individual who picked him up and gave him a ride took him back to state highway 54 and US 70. At that point, he decided to get out of a vehicle and he took off into a cotton field. That’s where we picked up on the footprints,” said Terbush.

The area just north of the Red River they are currently searching spans 36 square miles, and due to the rough terrain, Altus Police called in Survival Flight.

“When it’s way down where they don’t have access. No horse, four wheeler, ATV, we are able to look in different areas. You can see things a lot better in the air,” said Carlos Mendoza, with Survival Flight.

With that amount of space, and no exact coordinates for his location, Mendoza says they are hoping Hitchcock somehow marked where he is.

Terbush said Hitchcock’s family has started up their own search party.

Some really bad reporting going on in this case, sigh ...

This is such a shame.

I'm curious as to why he wanted to be dropped off at the cotton field. How close was that to his car? I'm confused about that part.

This is all so confusing. A stranger drove him to a store? For what? Gas? ATM?

  • #18
Wait, 2 different stores? How does LE know this? CCTV?

I am equally confused. I think I read he may have had a history of drugs etc but had turned his life around. I don’t know him personally but it was just odd that he seemed to be into that concert he was performing at and ended up disappearing the same day. I hadn’t read anywhere where there was anyone else with him either.

It sounds like it’s rocky terrain and such around that area. Yet he was in a cotton field. I hope they can make progress soon. Just seems so strange to me.
