Update: I emailed the detective for any updates. According to him as of August 16,2023 the DNA reference sample I provided was sent off for testing and could take approximately 120 days. After testing the profile will be entered into CODIS.

Small steps in the right direction.

I need your thoughts and opinions on declaring him deceased. How would I go about it. I live in different state than the 2 known states he resided in. Thank you

I can't help with the practicality (being in Europe) but hugs and prayers to you.

Is there such a thing as a Citizens Advice Bureau where you are?

I have some info and can look up more soon. Super busy rn. I remember finding info on SSA website in the past I believe.

Just a question--what would be the upside to declaring him dead? We've discussed in the past that it might have a downside of cutting off any benefits he might be receiving.

If he's alive he would probably pop up to protest and the search would end I guess.

But would Snoangel get any information from that?

If he is alive and protest it, then I would know why it was denied. Doesn't mean I would have contact with him. I want to know if he is alive or dead.

Prayers for you and for him while going through this process.

It's not. They verified his identity with a driver's license.
Idk how it was then but i got my license in 1986 in Tulsa and back then out drivers license numbers were our ssn so it’s possible the drivers license he used had his ssn on it. Idk if they made a copy of it or not though.

Back then you had the option of using an assigned number or your SSN.

Before having him declared dead, you need to consider the consequences to you. You could/would shut off his SS benefits, his pension if he has one, his bank accounts would be frozen causing his home to be foreclosed on, his job lost, his medical insurance and care gone, etc. There could/would be attorney's fees involved in getting this resolved. He could sue and expect you to pay to clean up the mess. Are you willing to possibly bankrupt both of you?
