In a civilized society we should be able to ride a bike without being mauled by unattended monsters.

Janelle Scott was riding her bike to a friend’s trailer Sept. 9 when two dogs from inside the trailer came out and attacked her.
[snip]
Police said the owner of the trailer was in jail at the time, and someone else was taking care of the dogs.
Woman loses all 4 limbs after dog attack, police say

Janelle told her mother that this is difficult, but she can and will get through this for her son and her mother, who hasn't left her side.

Police say there was another dog on the scene, but officers didn't find evidence that the second dog was involved in the attack, so that animal is still alive.

The person taking care of the dog got a ticket for violating animal codes

all dogs (and many other animals) are capable of attacking humans
it's humans who have trained them improperly, failed to supervise them, and almost certainly abused them who are at fault for any attacks
the dogs aren't the monsters, their owners are
so in a civilized society, we should be holding these monstrous humans accountable

Yes, I spend years training my friend's springer spaniel to swim and retrieve. I have to yell at him, but eventually he goes and fetches. Not like he's been bred for generations to plunge in the water and fetch stuff.

I really hope she makes it. Sepsis is so common after level 5 bites.

It never fails to amaze me how people with enough sense to put their pants on right can fail to believe the preponderance of actual science concerning why some breeds have, by nature, pounce and maul instincts that only get triggered by certain well proven stimulus.

I live where mountain lion abound. Big cats are triggered to pounce by fast actions and sudden loud noises though they can be the sweetest most docile creature right up until the very moment theyre triggered to eat you for lunch.
