Found Deceased Olivia 5, Evelyn 8 & Paityn Decker 9, Endangered Alert, visitation w/ homeless dad Travis Decker 32, wh 2017 GMC Sierra PU, Wenatchee, 30 May 2025

The former squamate described Decker as being quiet, a bit of an outcast, yet a hard worker and somewhat of a narcissist.

Before joining the 503rd, Decker had reportedly been removed from the elite Ranger Regiment after failing to complete Ranger School. Despite public photos circulating of Decker in uniform with a Ranger tab, the source said he wasn’t a Ranger.

Interesting, squadmate also describes him as narcissistic and the Ranger thing, stolen valor, lines right up with narc tendencies JMO

The way she said there was no DV and then described action in line with DV :(
Yes, this was my reaction as well. Heartbreaking. She said there was no DV, but then said he "just" would wake her up in the middle of the night to yell at her. That is abuse right there. Many people wrongly believe that DV is narrowly defined as physical abuse, but it encompasses so much more. Waking your partner up in the middle of the night to yell at them is abuse. So is preventing someone from sleeping, restricting their finances, constantly belittling them, badmouthing their friends and family to the point where they don't trust anyone, convincing them not to work so they're entirely reliant on you, being kind one day and horribly rude and mean the next so they feel like they're going crazy, etc. It's all abuse, and it's all wrong. I wish schools taught this as much as they taught algebra. (To clarify - I have NOT seen Whitney say that TD did any of those things to her that I listed, other than yell at her in the middle of the night. I'm just listing examples of abusive behavior that go beyond physical violence).

Also interesting that Decker started removing things from his social media accounts AFTER the murders.

Guess he didn’t want to leave any breadcrumbs …

... in the days following the murder accusations, the source said Decker deleted nearly all his posts, photos, videos, and unfollowed most of his former comrades.
This statement surprises me very much. I wonder if it's just that the former military buddy NOTICED that the posts, etc., were gone "in the days following the murder accusations."

I was also heartened to read that TD more or less idolized his father, and I think I read in a post much earlier that his father has gone out to Washington to assist in tracking TD down. Maybe that will help, if TD is still alive.

Interesting in this article the military pal says in the days FOLLOWING the murder accusations Decker deleted photos and unfriended people. So, he must have another phone or way to do that, or he killed them immediately and didn't leave the area until sometime later after he deleted things and then left his phone behind after he did that. Either that or the article is incorrect and it was meant to say before, not after.
Or conversely, how accurate is the supposed military pal? Or even what the “pal” has said about Decker. Has the journalist reported the info accurately?

I don't think this timeline matches up. The girls were reported missing, we found his FB here on WS and someone posted a link, we all saw and mentioned the weird bones photos, and then the girls were found and the murder charges were filed. Now, it's possible what we saw were the only public photos from the beginning and the "buddy" was looking at some friends-only posts that were later removed at some point. But if there were more public posts prior to the incident, they were removed before we all saw his FB which was just after the girls went missing and before the murder charges.

Exactly.

Whitney Decker, her family and her ex-husband’s family are all cooperating with the investigation but have requested privacy. She agreed to allow Cozart to speak on her behalf.

Cozart said Travis Decker, who was diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and a borderline personality disorder after leaving active service, has been struggling with deteriorating mental health.

snip

Cozart said Travis Decker had been desperately seeking mental health services from Veterans Affairs and a veterans crisis line but was ultimately left to struggle in isolation.

“When you have a vet who is suffering from complex PTSD and other mental health issues, they do not have the mental bandwidth” to schedule needed exams and evaluations, she said. “This was a tragedy that could’ve been completely avoided with proper funding of mental health services for veterans.
“Whitney believes, as I do, that something broke inside of him,” Cozart said. “Travis would not have done what he did if he was himself. He clearly had some sort of break and everything that he had been living with, everything that had been bottled up inside of him for so long as far as trauma, just won out.”
Exactly my fears. We have a broken VA system and many of the mental health care workers have lost employment in the new administration's cuts so there are going to be more and bigger issues if we as a country don't get our hands around our need to properly care for and prioritize their mental health concerns. This has become all to common in the last 20 years...too many wars with not enough help when back in the world. It's tragic all around. Moo

Bbm.
I think I may have mentioned the bones photos after the girls were found ?
Not sure about others member's comments, though, and also I hadn't looked at TD's FB until after the girls were found as well ?

Good points about maybe he'd deleted posts to only people on his friend's list after the murders.

More cowardliness coming from him, which isn't surprising at all.
Imo.

Ugh.
How heartbreaking and utterly repulsive that TD has hurt his own dad and immediate family in the worst way possible !!
Imo.

He leaves all his possesions, bloody handprints on the truck. wont take long to find out who's blood that was, or if it was even human. I still think he wanted people to believe he killed himself, maybe hoping they'll search more local (the woods since hes a known survivalist) and he buys time to get away. The new leads, sounds like he has more phones or something that makes L/E think he is still alive.
His frame of mind now, after this many days on the run, god knows what he will do. He probably even has a way to monitor the news to keep updated.

Travis Decker's PTSD was something he "always carried with him" throughout their marriage, but did not begin to "spiral" until he got out of the active reserves in 2023, Cozart said. Throughout their time together, Cozart said Travis Decker would scream in the middle of the night, soak the bed and only get one or two hours of sleep.

It was Travis Decker who initiated ending his marriage with Whitney Decker in 2023, because he "felt like he wasn't worth it," Cozart said.

One week later: Manhunt for accused triple-murderer Travis Decker continues; a community grieves

So so far we've heard from his ex wife via public statement, court docs, or her attorney:

Boderline Personality Disorder, narcissistic, controlling, and now PTSD. And yet according to this article, Travis initiated the divorce. So what would he be punishing her for in his mind? Unless it was simply her advocacy for the girls and keeping them safe from his tenuous living situation was all it took to send him to this decision he apparently made to end his children?

I think you said it right the first time when you said , he wanted to guilt her. He is very needy "he wasnt worth it" self pity, wanting to be rescued, That to me sounds like some weird reverse psychology, wanting her to tell him he is worth it, Maybe finally she couldnt hold him up anymore. , It's hard to keep uplifting someone whos that troubled for an extended period of time. as well as dealing with all the other stuff, the anger, the outbursts, it would be exhausting.

It fits with that book about borderline called " I hate you, dont leave me"
He probably used his dad's success as his measuring stick, then he flunks out of ranger school. I bet she walked on eggshells for as long as she possibly could, for the girls. ( thats not always best)
so if he finally filed, Im sure she looked for the nearest exit, and relief.

I think his financial situation ie. the ticket he received for having no insurance, his wages being garnished for back child support, not having enough money to rent a place to live, apparently not able to keep his dog coupled with his mental health disorder(s), and distorted thinking made him snap. Imoo

I wondered if that no insurance ticket would be just enough to tip him over the edge and thinking if he wasnt divorced he'd still be at home... finding some creative way of blaming her, even tho he filed. What an epic mind game it must have been to be with him

Thank-you both. I also read this article and thought it possibly could add some further insight into the discussion.

Joan Meier, director of the National Family Violence Law Center at the George Washington University Law School.

Meier said a big red flag that a custody issue could end in tragedy include demonstrated behaviors of what's known as "coercive control," which many states consider a form of domestic abuse and is defined as "a pattern of threatening or intimidating behavior that interferes with the free will of another person," according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Coercive controllers sometimes take their children's lives as a means of controlling or retaliating against the other parent, Meier said

I respect your opinion as always :). However, I feel he had severe mental health issues that progressively worsened. I don’t think mind games played any part in it. Just my humble opinion.
