I dont know why hed come to Canada, and do what?
he wont get across anyway, unless he can find a barb wired fence somewhere with noone watching.
Fugitives are known to enter Canada if they can because Canada won't extradite unless the US guarantees the fugitive would not face the death penalty.

It is impossible to man 5,000+ miles (miles, not kilometers) of the longest border in the world and it is not guarded with barbed wire fencing through all those miles of mountains, rivers, valleys.

Its not very detailed but Im thinking it might have been the belt? because it sounds alarming just to fall asleep in a bathrobe doesnt seem like it should be a big deal? sure makes you wonder what was going on there. Could have been a harmless incident but it doesnt sound like it, the way its written.

and why wouldn't he tell their mother? that would seem to me to be an immediate phonecall and plan to seek help for his daughter, unless, of course, he was responsible for whatever happened ...

I don't understand why he would leave food behind, unless he planned on not needing to eat. I get why he would leave the truck, his i.d., his phone and anything else that could potentially identify him but why not take food?

That is the one thing that bothers me and makes me think he never intended on going off grid or escaping to Canada.

The only thing I have read that might answer your question is a post upstream by @UsernameRequired. Here is a portion of what was posted:

<snipped for brevity> “Sheriff stated it's possible he has cached supplies prior to his visit in the area. They are still digging into his military background and he may have gone through "mountain survival school".”

I think what people don’t understand is that if a protective parent violates a court order and withholds visitation, the court can turn around and award more visitation or even custody to the non-custodial parent. I have read and seen so many horror stories that defy logical thinking. “Family” court is so often about parental rights, akin to property rights, and often disregards the safety and best interests of the children.

If Travis were never angry or violent towards the mother or the daughters, and they lived together for ten years, then how would she even know? When he said that he didn’t care about anything but her or the girls, it probably did not sound like he was planning to harm them. No one can blame the mother for Travis annihilating the family because: 1) it simply doesn’t come into one’s mind and 2) if he deteriorated so rapidly, she could be concerned of him committing suicide, not homicide.

Another question is, he might have been so paranoid or delusional, that in killing them, he either thought he was “protecting” them from something, or maybe he wanted to cut off everything preventing him from doing some monstrosity?

Not sure that crossing the border to Canada is his goal. Of course he’d not try the usual border crossings - his portrait is everywhere, so even the “easy” one is out of question. He’d just cross the vast territory of unmanned land “somewhere”, if he goes to Canada?

What would be his goal? To hide? There are vast plots of unmanned land on both sides of the border, but people there are mindful of the nonlocals. Even the geologists or the prospectors living in horrible conditions to the North are dependent on the locals.

The homeless population of any big city is a hiding place, but what would be his ultimate goal? To hide and live homeless? Or something else? I lean on the latter.

It would be great if he could be caught before the hot months of the summer IMHO.

What a sad situation. Three innocent kids murdered by their own father. This breaks my heart, because the mother did what she was supposed to, she got the parenting plan adjusted to his situation so the kids could still have a relationship with him, and even though more recently the kids showed some signs of not being 100% okay with the visits, she had no reason to prevent him from seeing them because he was always on time, returned them home when he was supposed to, etc. So heartbreaking, poor mom.

The judge told Travis Decker signing the documents was up to him, but his order would be legally binding with or without his signature. Travis Decker also refused to attend any domestic violence psychiatric evaluations and assessments. Seven months later, Chelan County deputies found the bodies of his children at a campground 18 miles west of Leavenworth.

... in the days following the murder accusations, the source said Decker deleted nearly all his posts, photos, videos, and unfollowed most of his former comrades.
If this is the case he was alive in the days after the girls were murdered and was on the move.

Where was he, and what device was he using to make changes to FB? Can’t imagine that he’d get decent internet coverage to allow him to access his account while out in the wilds as we presume.

I have to wonder if that is a journalistic error. Maybe he made those changes PRIOR to the murders?

MOO

His military pal describing him

Different photos of Travis

Interesting in this article the military pal says in the days FOLLOWING the murder accusations Decker deleted photos and unfriended people. So, he must have another phone or way to do that, or he killed them immediately and didn't leave the area until sometime later after he deleted things and then left his phone behind after he did that. Either that or the article is incorrect and it was meant to say before, not after.

He didn't take the tent either, so my guess is he wanted people to think he went off into the woods and harmed himself since he didn't take those items. Maybe he didn't want to carry too much stuff, or it wouldn't all fit in his bag or whatever he left on foot with.

My thoughts exactly.

The former squamate described Decker as being quiet, a bit of an outcast, yet a hard worker and somewhat of a narcissist.

Before joining the 503rd, Decker had reportedly been removed from the elite Ranger Regiment after failing to complete Ranger School. Despite public photos circulating of Decker in uniform with a Ranger tab, the source said he wasn’t a Ranger.

Interesting, squadmate also describes him as narcissistic and the Ranger thing, stolen valor, lines right up with narc tendencies JMO

The way she said there was no DV and then described action in line with DV :(
Yes, this was my reaction as well. Heartbreaking. She said there was no DV, but then said he "just" would wake her up in the middle of the night to yell at her. That is abuse right there. Many people wrongly believe that DV is narrowly defined as physical abuse, but it encompasses so much more. Waking your partner up in the middle of the night to yell at them is abuse. So is preventing someone from sleeping, restricting their finances, constantly belittling them, badmouthing their friends and family to the point where they don't trust anyone, convincing them not to work so they're entirely reliant on you, being kind one day and horribly rude and mean the next so they feel like they're going crazy, etc. It's all abuse, and it's all wrong. I wish schools taught this as much as they taught algebra. (To clarify - I have NOT seen Whitney say that TD did any of those things to her that I listed, other than yell at her in the middle of the night. I'm just listing examples of abusive behavior that go beyond physical violence).

Also interesting that Decker started removing things from his social media accounts AFTER the murders.

Guess he didn’t want to leave any breadcrumbs …

This statement surprises me very much. I wonder if it's just that the former military buddy NOTICED that the posts, etc., were gone "in the days following the murder accusations."

I was also heartened to read that TD more or less idolized his father, and I think I read in a post much earlier that his father has gone out to Washington to assist in tracking TD down. Maybe that will help, if TD is still alive.
