Very interesting. So this begs the question why did the second party report him but not identify him? Maybe they had their suspicions and just didn't say the name so as not to be hasty, but if they didn't happen to know TD's description (or even hadn't heard of the crime, if such people exist), why did they report? What was unusual or irregular or concerning about the person?

The tattoos not being mentioned when the description included tee shirt is a very noteworthy. I wonder if a long-sleeved shirt made of tee shirt fabric would ever be described as just a tee shirt. I wouldn't say it that way myself, but somebody might, maybe......

I wonder if he simply looks very different with a lot of hair/beard on the face.
I have recently seen a known figure being interviewed and got surprised how a small beard might change the face and the general impression of the person.
Now, Travis did look different on the photos. The only thing he cannot change about the face is not something that everyone would notice. But a longer beard/more facial hair might give him a very different look.
I hope that the police was asked witnesses to make the sketch of his face with all the facial hair.

ETA. (In my youth, i have seen many Eurasian descendents living behind the Ural Ridge). I have noticed that Travis looks very different on different photos, in part, because he easily tans. So having spent many days under the sun, he should now be very tanned and look different from his "photo progression". (What they offered probably applies to winter time). He is medium tall, wiry, suntanned, with a lot of dark hair on the face, a ponytail and likely wears sunglasses. An interesting situation where facial recognition may not do much. It is not difficult to make appropriately edited photos, there are groups on FB that do it for free, even. If I saw such a man in an airport, I would not pay any attention to him except for the fact that I do notice long hair. But a ponytail can be hidden under a cap. So, they really have to provide better description and audio of his voice, too. For objective reasons, it would be easy for him to avoid detection even in populated areas.

According to this old post by Brian Entin, the photos were taken close to when he "went missing" -- if the pizza photo was the same day he picked up the girls he then destroyed, maybe he fled with that shirt on his back. Maybe not his only outfit, but one of them.

One always has to remain skepticalwhen witnesses describe a 'wanted' photo with 100% accuracy, but the fact there were more than one sighting/witness lends credence IMO.

Of interest, does anyone know what L.A.C. on his green T-shirt might stand for? I Googled and besides multiple different world meanings, came up with two sport teams in California (could he be a fan?), Lithium American Corporation in Nevada and several others. Just to know what his interests/hobbies are. Is he a sports fan?

This article says that in May 2024, Decker moved to Idaho in his RV, but does not say where in Idaho that was...
Yes, some here explored some of TD's Idaho history when that neonazi psycho gunned down 3 firefighters recently - before the man was identified.

...I would probably not want to throw up an alarm with LE saying directly I thought it might be him...
Well, there is a $20K reward offered by the U.S. Marshall's Service... could motivate one to name TD.

Really good interview with a Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshall here that explains why they think these tips are valid...
Well then, I'm going back to my longstanding original theory: "TD took off on 5/30 with a 3-day head start after his alleged heinous crime"

...Would he have a place that was special to him there or maybe he is just about keeping moving...
Is there a person, love interest, or a group of people in Idaho that TD knows and can trust to help him? There's lots of anti-establishment preppers living off the grid incognito in that part of the world.

My reactions are  IMO

Thoughts on how he might be surviving.

There are bear boxes for food storage in Sawtooth NF and in most NF. People stash their food there overnight. Easy to steal from. Backpackers may use the bear boxes to store food for when they return from a 2-3 day hike. At any rate, there are many opportunities for someone to rummage through those boxes with no one around. There are often some at trailheads.

There are lots of sources of water, and he probably doesn't care whether it's filtered or not.

There are also scavenging opportunities and there are a number of wild plants that are edible.

I just read some hitchhiking stories on an online forum, in which people get picked up by the weirdest people (drug using, drinking, gun toting people). Many people aren't following this story and some people really like to pick up vagrant looking hitch hikers, apparently.

It's about 560 miles on foot from the campground where the three little girls were murdered to the approximate spot where he may have been sighted. That's just 18 miles a day if he did the whole thing on foot. Experienced hikers can travel 20-30 miles per day.

If he was indeed sighted in Sawtooth, he's one determined person and possibly not overtly suicidal. This surprises me a little. OTOH, there are people within the homeless population who do live in this manner. Local LE where I live say that our local river bottom (mostly dry, but still available water) is "home" to what they call "walkers" (people who are in constant motion, who walk miles and miles a day).

The descriptions provided by the various people who think they saw TD indicate a poorly groomed person, etc.

It looks to me like a "safety" shirt for a company that does work outdoors, the neon yellow/green is common in some industries, like a high visibility vest construction workers wear.

Since it's not visible in the photo what the smaller print is below the L.A.C., probably about the company, IMO, it's hard to say, where he got it, having different jobs and living in various places.

I tried to see what the small print says but to no avail. But every detail may be important. It did look like construction though.

Yes. We own a business in Nampa, ID...train headquarters is across the street from us. Train hoppers use our outside spigot for baths, I take the young ones to Burger King when I see them but yes....you spot them easy in that neighborhood.

Thank you so much for the local intel! (I have a good friend who lives in Nampa, but haven't been in contact for a while). I think this overall theory that's developing here on WS (that he's using train tracks and ATV trails and possibly utility easements) is very strong.

If there's a Burger King nearby, then many train hoppers will also rummage through the trash, especially late at night. Train hopping is another excellent hypothesis.

This puts a whole different spin on his psychological state. This is a horrifically violent, rage-filled and, IMO, highly narcissistic person. Dark Triad X3. Medications are indicated for someone with his diagnosis. The newer low dose adult anti-psychotics are probably what he was prescribed. Doesn't treat the whole disorder, but definitely tamps down the rage and also helps with intrusive thoughts. I assume that's what he was prescribed and then went off of.

I can post some links about the use of anti-psychotics for BPD, I posted them before, but it's been a while.

I searched L.A.C., also, from various angles, and came up empty. There are some smaller words underneath that would probably shed light if someone could decipher them.

Since no one can explain his actions to start with, I don't know if he was suicidal. I assumed he was, but... a very paranoid man, who the heck knows what to expect? The voices in his hear might have been telling him that the kids were not his, or devils, or aliens, who even knows what he thought? Maybe the person who was providing "therapy" knows something...or no one.

Currently, too... I think he is moving with a certain purpose, but maybe he does want to live off the grid and not be bothered.
He could fit into any homeless group, although by nature it seems he is neat and clean.

Maybe he'd move to a warmer place for the autumn/winter. Less tanned, he'd look like himself.

I was on the fence about him being suicidal. If his diagnosis is accurate, he could become capable of self-harm in an instant and would be highly unpredictable. Now, if he really has traveled over 500 miles, I am leaning toward MassGuy's theory heavily.

This was an intentional attack on his former spouse, filled with hatred. He viewed the children as pawns/extensions of himself and also had that "brought 'em into the world, can take 'em out" mentality that some people express. The term "borderline" means "on the border between psychosis and neurosis. Neurotics are people who are aware they are flaws and are susceptible to receiving therapy. Psychotics need their meds. Borderlines are in the middle and pass as normal all the time. In fact, they specializing in mimicking other people to pass as normal, while still having bizarre thought patterns.

I do think he can fit into a homeless or survivalist community. I interviewed a mountain man who walked the spine of the Rocky Mountains from northern Wyoming down into Mexico (and back) every year, following the seasons as you suggest. He did have a hunting system which included a muzzle loading gun and he melted lead and made his own bullets. He retrieved all bullets he shot. He also used snares and fishing nets. He was not crazy at all, as far as anyone could tell. He played guitar when someone loaned him one and was a great story teller. But he lived almost entirely alone, making a bit of cash working for a museum in Cody, WY where he did little talks for families and craft things with kids. He had been doing this for almost a decade when I met him.

Naturally, this sort of person has to have a high tolerance for being alone.

Yeah, do we know what the job was he had he may have been let go from in WA, IIRC, prior to their murders?

How long would a pair of sneakers hold up? Hitching a ride would lengthen that life span. Why would he choose the kind of footwear you walk through? A headstart but zero preparation? That might fit with psychotic.

If the sightings are legit, like everyone here, I'm curious how he'd getting around, where he's trying to get to, and whether he has an endgame.

Except maybe for the mental health issues that aren't probably going to make him a great neighbor.

I feel like he's in loner mode.

I hope, if he is on the move, he can be apprehended without incident.

The location where he was possibly spotted seems like such an extremely remote and unlikely place for him to wind up in, the kind of place only locals would know, IMO. I had a hard time even trying to find a good map of the area on Google Earth. So I looked at my old pre-internet book of paper maps of the Idaho national forests and back-country, and I noticed on those old maps that the Idaho State Centennial Trail is quite close to where he was reported seen. (Couldn't find the trail on GoogleEarth) This is a trail that runs north and south thru Idaho from the Canadian border to the Nevada border. I wonder if he might be using that trail to make his way through these wilderness areas. There are places the trail crosses highways and towns, it even crosses Interstate-90.

Thanks for mentioning this. Some basic info I found about the Idaho State Centennial Trail:

Eta: Here's an article about a couple who hiked the entire trail in 2020:

TD was working and living out of an RV for a time in Idaho and it got repossessed IIRC.
He would likely still know the areas of Idaho, especially if spending time outdoors/in nature there when living and working.

If had any acquaintances out there from back in the day, I hope they mention to LE any of his favourite or knows places of spots.

Maybe he has a stash of things out there by where his RV was in the area.

US Marshals' tips: Fugitive Travis Decker may have hitchhiked to Idaho forest

The U.S. Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force in a release issued on Sunday, July 6 asked for help from anyone who visited the Sawtooth National Forest over the weekend, particularly in the Bear Creek area where Decker may have hitchhiked to.
