What about the big bucks outfits of the present FLOTUS as well as her lack of outfits in the past? Should she be reviled?

Oprah has done a lot of charity. That does not count? Other well to do cover their stuff in gold. Is that better?

We all do charity, or at least most of the people I know. As nice as it is, it's not a qualification for POTUS. It doesn't make up for the lack of relevant education and work experience.

The idea that the presidency should become a prize for celebrities is dangerous, very dangerous.

All do charity? Hm. Not that I know of. You are right about the celebrity part.

There are celebrities that have Phd’s. Some incredibly bright ones now and in the past.

Having been in a govt type position but appointed, not elected, there are some things I learned.

You must know the law . You have to communicate clearly why things are being done. If it is not clear, make it clear.

Understanding people’s needs and identfying them, but letting them know why laws prohibit or do not cover what they wish. No matter how wrong it is, if there is not a law, nothing can be done.

People have agendas to benefit them. What are they?

People are not going to be happy no matter what you do.

Admit when you are wrong, Get expert facts.

It is a real tightrope with so many different factions pulling and lying as well.

I do kind of like the idea of "Super Soul Sundays" followed by Monday's "State of the Union" address.

I will be surprised if Oprah decides to run. There has never been an elected official who does not encounter discord, and I don’t really think she will open herself up to such criticism. But one never knows until it happens.

There were probably very few gowns, if any, under $25k, worn to that event that night, including OW's, and $25k is low-balling. They are wealthy, it's like me spending a couple, three, hundred on a teen's prom dress.

Charity is great, I'm all for giving to charity, I will say this though, it is a very nice vehicle for the wealthy to help their bottom line at tax time.

Everyone opposed to our current POTUS said we didn't need a billionaire, t.v. show host, who had zero political background, and who'd have to learn on the fly, sitting in the White House. I agree with that sentiment no matter the party.

I would be surprised if she ran for President. I don't think the DNC would want her to. Honestly, why would anyone want to be President?

Everyone who is complaining about child sex abuse.

I have a suggestion. There are organizations that raise money because they need it. They interview children who have a potential sex abuse situation.

I imagine there are plenty of sex abused children in teen shelters. Find out what they could use. Girls probably need feminine products.

Your post does not apply to me but I will reply anyway. Shelters also need volunteers to sit with babies so the young mothers who have chosen to keep their babies can attend training classes so they can get jobs. They need clothing to wear to job interviews. They need many things. Because we “complain” about child abuse/rape does not mean we are not involved with victims. I did learn something this past Holiday season, Toys for Tots needs items for older children. Most people donate items for babies and younger children.

I believe the topic was specifically child sex abuse. Why did Oprah not mention it.

The suggestions are good for the other places you mention. There is no end to what people need

People can make their bottom line much better by making dummy corporations and hiding their money, Not all wealthy give to charity. Actually, poor people give a lot in comparison to what they have.

I think Oprah is good at what she does, but that doesn't mean she'd be good at everything.

I don’t know that I am for her, but why would she not be good at it? We need people with a compassionate heart who are willing to learn and to get alomg with others. No one can know everything in this complex world.

We need someone who can get along with world leaders as well as the problems are so,interrelated.

Oprah is CLOSE friends with Harvey Weinstein. As in, she knew what he did and helped shuffle women his way who wanted career gains. She spent a lot of time with him. She used her show as a platform for celebrities to promote their careers and ridiculous fake relationships. Including celebs who are known abusers. She is part of the problem, not the solution. I can not believe how many people think celebrities are hollier than thou. The media and the entertainment industry is the fakest thing out there.

Oprah is not going to be the one to the systematic abuse of children in Hollywood or the world, she is part of the cycle.

I find this BBM statement so offensive. Oprah, the president and many others have rubbed elbows with powerful people who abused, maimed, and exerted power over others in ways that were either criminal or so close that it was on the line. Unless a person does the abusing themselves, I find it highly irrelevant to broad brush make a statement about one person (in this case, Oprah) without painting all in powerful, celebrity and inherently uneven relationships with the broad brush. For example, our current president spent lots of time with people like Roy Cohn, Howard Stern, and Jeffrey Epstein. Cohn ruined lives and was unabashed about it. Stern is a known misogynist whose show often demeaned women, those with disabilities and encouraged a generation of young people to put up with that behavior. Epstein went to prison for solicitation of a young girl-- he was known to have parties with underage girls that serviced his guests (Trump was named in a suit that was later withdrawn.). Trump and Oprah are not the only celebrity, very wealthy people who rubbed elbows with scummy, awful people. Donald Trump and Weinstein also were friends and have a myriad of photos together.

I write all of this to say that in the wealthy circles in this country wealthy people have access to each other and are photographed and support each other BUT they may not know what wrongdoing the other wealthy person does in private or as part of their business. To say that contact and business dealings are enough to link people would cause a whole lot of trouble for many celebrities, politicians and wealthy business people AND they should all be held to account as you are holding Oprah by the phrases you used to describe her. Insert the president's name or other celebrities like Clint Eastwood or you name them.

Well, there was also and article. But if you need another here's one, this time from November 2017:

Actress: Weinstein used Oprah and Naomi to seduce me

https://pagesix.com/2017/11/28/actress-harvey-used-oprah-and-naomi-to-seduce-me/

Nowhere does this article say that Oprah or Naomi Campbell said or did anything to coerce or claim that this woman should be abused by Weinstein. The article refers to the victim's impression that because Weinstein was seen with these two women that he was good for her career. Weinstein used his celebrity to entice and then abuse/coerce her. NOT Oprah and NOT Naomi.

"An aspiring actress says Harvey Weinstein used Oprah Winfrey and Naomi Campbell to dupe her into thinking he would help her with her career — only to use her for sex.

British actress Kadian Noble said Tuesday she was head-over-heels impressed when she first met Weinstein at an event in London because he was hanging out with model Campbell and had megastar Oprah “swinging off his arm.”

“I thought, obviously, this man has something amazing in store for me,” she said during a teary-eyed press conference in Manhattan to discuss the sex trafficking lawsuit she filed a day earlier against Weinstein in Manhattan federal court."

I worked for a charity, for many years, and in fundraising (I actually wore a few hats b/c charities have to keep their admin costs low). While we received the majority of our funds from the average person, we did have several well-known foundations who supported us, some provided funding to specific programs, and others general support, we also had wealthy donors who supported us through planned and major giving routes, then, some just wrote a check and dropped it in the mail, when the feeling hit them. We've received everything from a dime, taped to response envelope, to checks for thousands, come in through the general mail. They may still have had dummy corps, but they also gave us funds.

A lot of women knew the reputation of Harvey Weinstein. There's a photo of Oprah kissing HW in 2014. I find it difficult to believe she didn't know.

There are thousands of photos of Weinstein with people. I don't know what they did and didn't know. We can all speculate but have no real idea in the end. Are all who met with, conducted business with, and worked for Weinstein responsible for shuffling victims into his clutches? I don't think so.

Other than Toys For Tots I am talking about abuse/rape of children. As far as why Oprah or any of the others did not mention it, I have no idea. Do you?

Just to clarify why I mentioned Toys for Tots. Your words “Girls probably need feminine products” brought to mind Toys for Tots.

I think a lot of folks in the business knew a lot of stuff went on but if they weren't a part of it , they tended to not believe their friends, and acquaintances, were guilty of such conduct. Kinda like Matt Lauer. Everyone seemed so shocked, and Guthrie was near tears, as they were truly friends, from what I've read. It's said that most folks knew Lauer was flirty, and likely had consensual affairs, but didn't know the other stuff, and were quite shocked when some of the other stuff started coming out. You don't want to believe those type of things of your friends, and family.

I've been wanting Oprah to run for President for 30 years. Not kidding.
